Through the Fog
Part 1
Aedan awoke with a start. He had just had the strangest dream in his life, and thats saying something comming from someone who used to see darkspawn when he slept. He sat up in bed as he fought to remember every single detail bout the dream. He was standing in an burned field, the ashes swirling around him as if it were snowing. He scanned the field and suddenly heard a loud scream. He raced toward the sound and slid to a halt when he saw who caused the scream. She was a little blurry but Aedan would recongnize her anywhere. It was Morrigan, and someone was holding her with a knife to her throat. Suddenly the figure drew the blade across her throat, slitting it, "NO!" Aedan bellowed and lunged forward as Morrigan's body fell limply to the ground. Aedan thrusted his great sword forward with all his strength but the figure merely side stepped him, knocking his sword to the side with the bloody dagger. The figure then reached out and grabbed Aedan by the throat, lifting him off his feet.
He looked directly at the figures face and was taken aback. It looked a little like him with its green eyes and dark brown hair, but something was different. Aedan looked into its eyes and felt the same presence he felt when he dreamt of the Archdemon. The figure game him a smirk and said in a hoarse whisper, "Father..." and that's when he awoke.
He sat up slightly in his bed, running his fingers through his short dark brown hair. He was covered in a cold sweat, breathing heavily as thouggh he had just ran a few miles. He looked around his room at Red cliff castle. It was empty save fro the bed, a dresser, a vanity for Leliana, and Magnus sleeping in the corner. He lay back down and heard that familiar Orlaisian accent.
"Nightmare?" Aedan nodded rolling over to face her
She yawned not opening her eyes, "Tell me about it."
Aedan smiled, "No, I think I'll leave the story telling to you, go back to sleep I'm fine."
She didn't reply but Aedan could tell she was already fast asleep. He closed his own eyes and it wasn't long before sleep overtook him as well.
The next morning he awoke to find a large mass laying next to him instead of Leliana's slender figure.
"Ah, Maker's breath,' he breathed, 'Magnus, get off the bloody bed." the warhound whined and hopped off the bed as Aedan sat up.
"Don't even try me with those puppy dog eyes, your not as cute or as little as you once were boy." the dog seemed to shrug and walked over to his blanket in the corner and laid down. Aedan hopped out of bed and quickly washed and dressd in his drakescale armor. He tied the vial of darkspawn blood around his neck and turned to Magnus, "What do you think, sword or no sword today?" the mabari warhound just looked back at him and the laid his head back down.
"Thanks for the help, I don't know why I even ask for your advice anymore." Aedan said shaking his head as he slung his greatsword, Sinweaver, on his back. The hilt itself was magnificent, it was all a golden hue except for the guard which was silver. The pomme was a deep ocean blue and the grip had leather wrapped around it to keep it from slipping. The blade was sharp and shined like it was made of liquid metal. He rolled his shoulders, stretched, whistled for Magnus and made his way out the door. Magnus trotted next to him as he strolled down the halls of the castle. He headed for the courtyard when he heard someone call name. He turned his head and saw Alistar walking towards him.
" Look whose decided to comeback to the relm of the living." he said chuckling
" Well I would have been up sooner but the thought of listening to anymore plans for cleaning up the rest of the darkspawn has left me oh so exhausted." said Aedan stifling a fake yawn.
"I understand what you mean, but its all for the greather good, or so they say. Hey, quick question, did you have any trouble sleeping last night." Aedan arched an eyebrow, "Yea I did, I had a really odd dream, but not like the ones I used to have before the end of the Blight."
"I couldn't sleep at all last night, i had the strongest sensation of someone watching me all night. I finally just grabbed my dagger and laid it on my pillow before i fell asleep."
"Hmm that is odd, but Magnus didn't even move last night that i can recall and your room is right down the hall from mine so i don't think there was anyone walking around except for a guard or a servant perhaps."
Alisar nodded, scratching his head, "Yea, your right. Stilll it was unnerving all the same."
"Yeah I bet, but any way have you seen-"
"-In the Chantry." Alistar said before Aedan could finish the question.
"Thanks." Aedan said turning to walk down the steps
"Oh another quick question." Alistar said
"Yes..." Aedan asked motioning with his hand
" Are you to...well...you know."
"Are we what?" asked Aedan cocking an eyebrow
"You know what i mean."
"Well, we share a bed and are in love so if you ment anything like that then yes. As for engaged or marriage then no, 'Aedan rubbed the back of his neck, ' I didn't know that Grey Wardens were allowed to marry, are they?"
"I uh..um..i honestly don't know. Duncan never mentioned anything or any of the other Wardens I've met, but I've never heard anything saying that they couldn't be." Alistar replied
"I'll remember that, now if you'll excuse me." Aedan said going down the stairs to the courtyard.
"Be careful with her, i still think she's crazy with that whole the Maker talks to me nonsense." Alistar called
"As you command, my prince." Aeden yelled over his shoulder. He heard Alistar say something but couldn't quite understand it as he walked down the steps to go see Leliana.
