I have to say that, from a purely personal perspective, I do find having the highest possible shield/barrier regen time for my Asaris to be the difference between laying on the deck being no help to the team, and standing and contributing, simply because you can burn a lot of your barriers away with dodging while flinging powers. Hence I will generally go to at least rank 5 on fitness, even if it means one of my powers takes a bit of a knock in the process.

After all, all the super powers in the world are no use to you or your team if you're constantly examining the floor. Better to be up and about using them in a slightly reduced capacity, rather than pondering how good those maxed powers would be if only you could stand.

meh. It goes both ways. Weaker powers means the enemy has more time to kill you.

yep, i would have liked to have the shield gate values again, so here they R.

Shield/health gate cooldown : 3sec (meaning if you have some shield back and a nemesis shoot at you => health gate)
Shield/health gate (immunity) duration :
Multiplayer
- Bronze 0.5 seconds
- Silver 0.25 seconds
- Gold 0.1 seconds
- Platinum 0.01 seconds

I wonder why single grenade drop me quite often though.

Grenades ignore gates altogether.

There's a list I believe Fagnan posted about shield gate and there are several things that bleed right through gate like nades, possessed Abombs, etc. 

Is the gate CD still 3 secs? I thought they lower that CD but I can't remember.

It was lowered from 4, if I recall correctly.

yep, the lower shield gate CD is in the balance change thread.
As for the immunity durations, i took them in the Fagnan thread on game mechanics.
i ll go back there for the exclusions :

The following enemy attacks ignore the player health and shield gate mechanics, which means they can instantly kill you.
- Any sync kill
- Enemy grenades
- Possessed Abomination explosions
