I spend a lot of time talking to people, both in camp and outside. I do all the side quests that fit my character. I revisit places with Leiliana to find loot I left behind, and occasionally fo the same with Dog to let him search. I do some extra travelling for potion ingredients and to fight creatures too high powered for when I first encountered them (I won't say what they were because were in the no spoilers section, but there are a couple of types). I do some shopping in Denerim. I've never done a playthrough that took less than 100 hours, but then I'm not rushing or skipping things, either.

Beer. Lots of Beer. Also, playing as, say, a Male Human Noble is drastically different from playing a Female Elf Mage.

For the first time I recruited Oghren at the beginning and kept him in my party for the whole game. WOW. He has a LOT of dialogue.

Cool to know :) I usually save Orzammar last because I hate how boring the deep roads can be - but maybe I'll knock it out first and see all of his reactions.

So far if I am reading this correctly from Steam, I've logged 585 hours of gametime on Dragon Age. Mods, different party setups, achievements, evil/good roleplaying all keeps me enthralled. I really love CRPGs.

Can't wait for Mass Effect 2!!

Pretty easy to go past 40 hours if you do the side quests, pick pockets (steal), read the codex entries, and explore the maps for additional loot/quests.
Sure if all you do is the main quest you can finish the game pretty fast.
But if ALL you're doing is the main quest...why are you bothering to play a role-playing game in the first place?

I did almost ALL the sidequests I found, and finished the main quest and most of my companion's quests too... Guess I'll have to go try doing it a second time and see if anything different happens.

It can get pretty long when you're actually exploring the role play aspects of the game. Side quests, communicating with npcs, exploring, etc. It's a much richer experience that way too. Besides, I'd rather be able to sit down and play a 40 hr+ game than spend the same amount of money on a five hour game. :/

Past 40 hours????

I played more than 40 hours the first week and never took a single character past Ostagar...Posted Image

I've played hundreds of hours by now and only a couple characters have completed more than one major area (after Lothering) and those two characters have only completed maybe two major areas each.

So at this point in time I have hundreds of hours of enjoyable playtime and have probably only uncovered 25% of the game. I'll no doubt have well over 1000 hours before a single character actually completes it. Posted Image

In roughly two playthroughs you will cover most of the game.... dwarf or gollems. Elfs or wolfs. Mages or templars. Three playthroughs and you could have done the three main class's.

Scary thing about Oghren? His VA is Steve Blum, who also voices Irving (which shocked me) and Gorim (which didn't, since he used his pidgeonholed voice for it).

So in other words, Steve Blum is a drunk, high-ranking mage/berserker combo who also makes a killing selling FINE DWARVEN CRAFTS on the side. That's hax.

With these sorts of games I like to leave a little content for a second play through. I must have clocked about 60-70 hours the first time around but I stuck with the same party members all the way through and ignored everyone else so I have a completely different party second time around. Also, I did not do many of the side quests or explored crafting much, which in turn opens up a lot of other things for the second time around outside the context of the main plot.

Started my second character recently, different class, different gender, and already there are a ton of new things I am encountering.

One more note. Third time around I will drop a bunch of player mods in just to spice it up more.

On the PC. 112 hours. Don't forget, pausing does not stop the clock. I am currently stalled on my second pass but have downloaded some Mods to tweak the characters to revitalize them and will run a serious pass through the Tactics scripts to see if the game can be run properly using just Tactics for the followers. That should keep it interesting enough to keep going... ;)

Guys!

This game is too short! I skipped a bunch of side quests and skipped all the dialog and it's only 40 hours!

Yeah, I'm in a similar boat, OP. I went through twice as a good Dwarf Noble, then a douchebag Dalish Elf and I kind of lost my interest after that. I'm waiting for some more DLC and such before I go jumping in again.

In the meantime, I'm having an absolute blast with the toolset.

I guess it varies quite a bit. I still don't see how anyone is getting over 100 hours on a playthrough...side "quests" is a bit of generous term - most of them feel like side tasks to me.

And here we are bored trolling the forums waiting for more stuffs :)

I went thru once then I just made a character of every origin and combo I could think up. Some are close to the end some are mid way thru then I was just burned out. Here there I play some but I think I am waiting for some bigger mods from the fans and more stuff from BW atm.

DA:O-GameTime = 2/3TalkTime + 1/3 PlayTime

Way to less self acting / activ playing.

Talk is nice and well done but im disappointed that beside all that nice talk are not enougth content to explore, interact and play with and in this world.

Well I'm definitely going to check out some of the new mods too now. There's got to be some good stuff out there. If not yet, there soon will be. Oblivion had some AMAZING mods, and I really hope the modding community gives this game the respect it deserves.

155 hours, first and only playthrough. Maybe I pause to think a lot, dunno. Game seemed big to me though.

89 hours and lots to go for me on my first playthrough.  I've only completed Redcliffe/Haven, the Circle Tower, part of Denerim, Honnleath and some sidequests.  Partly it's that I explore every inch, listen to every dialogue and read most codex entries.  But also I have little experience with such games and my tactics suck, so I have to reload a fair bit.  I was really chuffed when I managed to beat the big bad sleeping by Haven.  Sten and my drawf warrior pc were down and twice-revived Alistair was running for his life.  Wynne finally completed cooldown on Revival and up popped my pc as Alistair got swept away.  I stepped in for the killing blow.  What a rush!
