I'm playing through Awakening again and experimenting with some things, so I thought I'd see the scene when Nathaniel Howe returns after you let him go.
The wiki states it happens when you return to vigils keep for the first time but I've done two quests outside Vigils Keep and went to Amaranthine and back and it still doesn't trigger.
Is he located somewhere in Vigils Keep or does it trigger automatically? When should I expect it to trigger?
When does 'The Howe Road' trigger?

For me, the encounter triggered right after letting Nathaniel go; don't really recall from where to where I was travelling, but it sure did before doing any quests.
I faced a similar issue once, but with Velanna. The encounter with her clan members never triggered. May be it had something to do with the more random encounters mod I used. But I didn't verify it as I simply used the console instead.
If you don't mind using the developer console, every random encounter can be triggered easily. May be someone else here would know if there's any other way around to trigger the encounter.

Hmmm, I guess I could try forcing it with the console.
What's the line that I would need to put in to force this?
I could always just load the save before I let him go though. I was just hoping to hear some different dialogue for once.
I don't have any mods that would alter that sort of thing. I wonder why it's not triggering.
