Jacob suffers from Pull not being useful on the higher levels -- if you can Pull something you're able to kill it anyway, and his weapons aren't good at shield stripping. That leaves him ...... a weak version of Grunt, maybe? I still used him occasionally, but only because my Shep and the other squadmate could cover he important stuff. He's actually OK with Miranda; she strips defenses and she does a finishing move.

As for the topic, I always cycle through the various squadmates.

For me it depends on A: my class and B: my characters personality. Like my last playthrough my shep was a proper player, so he always took da ****es. Otherwise there's always room for Garrus!!!

No, the complete opposite. I try to make every party member get some play time, so I constantly shake up the shore party. Like in ME1, I'll typically go-

Therum-2 members
Feros-2 members who weren't used for Therum
Noveria-the final 2 who weren't used for the other story missions

Same is true for other games in the series. I try to make sure that no party member is left out for too long. Even characters I don't much care for will get at least a few missions that they can tag along. I also try to avoid overusing any single character, so I don't bring anyone to every single mission, even the most used party member will have to sit out on a couple of missions.

In Mass Effect 1, I had to compliment my character to survive. After that, it was Garrus every time.

Wow lot of responses thanks, I am doing a ME1 with Garus and Wrex on every mission since I recruited them, so for the fun of it, ME2 I tend to use Miranda a lot, but this time I am going to use Legion as much as possible and rotate the others.

Each Shepard has individual friends, or perhaps preferences. This way I get to hear something new on each PT. General rule of thumb being that the current LI most likely has a spot on the team.


One Shepard brought Tali to save the Admiral on Rannoch so I could hear what she said there, "Bringing an individual who knows the political climate along if anything comes up, knows Koris and can perhaps help to persuade to follow my Shepard's plan". The next Shepard reasoned that it was too dangerous to have both Tali and the Admiral exposed on Rannoch in case something critical happened. A new team member was brought. And so it goes.


Quick fangirling over Rannoch, such a beautiful planet. Was just thinking about it earlier today. My FemShep is getting a house there as well. Wish we could spend more time there *sigh*.

Yea, I generally stick with the same squad for every single mission.  My love interest always stays in my party.  I never consider powers, except in ME2 on husk missions (when Shockwave was a MUST).
ME1: Kaidan (LI) and Garrus
ME2: Garrus (LI) and Thane
ME3: Garrus (LI) and EDI/Kaidan

This was pretty easy to do in Mass Effect.  It was only in Dragon Age where Friendship/Rivalry mattered that you had to constantly swap.

Usually when I want to hear all the dialogue available from a specific squadmate, yeah.

Just have in mind, that to hear banter from some characters you need to know which character hijacks banter from this specific character least.

E.g. a lot of Kaidanites like Kaidan+Garrus combo for a good reason, while Garrus fans are very unlikely to enjoy this pair - banter priority ignores LI flag (unfortunately). The most known banter-hurts are Liara and EDI.

And, of course, I've got my own squad preferences
ME1 - Kaidan(LI)+Ash(swapped with Wrex or Garrus after Virmire.... sorry, Ash)
ME2 - Garrus + Jack (or Mordin)
ME3 - Garrus + James (swapped with Kaidan(LI) after Coup).

Yes. I have the tendancy to use the same squadmates for certain missions. Especially in ME2 and ME3.

With the N7 missions I mix it up with Garrus and whoever I feel like taking. Except the mission on Zada Ban and then I always take Garrus and Grunt. As for Loyalty Missions, Garrus goes on every single one. Although the last time I played ME2 I did take Samara on Jack's Loyalty Mission. And honeslty I think if she could have gotten ahold of TIM right then she would have made him "find peace in the embrace of the Goddess". lol

For the side missions I usually use Garrus and EDI or Garrus and James, except for Gellix I take Garrus/Kaidan and on Lesuss I take Garrus/Liara.
