The squadmate left behind on Virmire was vaporized by a nuclear blast. No amount of cybermancy can bring someone back from that.

And synthesis simply can't happen for any number of reasons, even in a world where eezo can be used to nudge individual atoms in a controlled way. So why wouldn't BioWare resurect the Virmire casualty, even though I distinctly remember Kaiden all but ordering me to leave him behind for the sake of the mission.

What if it's someone from shepards military carrier, from before shepard was assigned to the normandy?

Oh I hadn't thought about Anoleis.

But isn't there a way to help him in 1? Instead of having him arrested?

Yep, you can turn over the evidence that Giana Parasini wants to Anoleis, or you can let him know who Parasini is and let them kill each other.

This.

It would tie together with the first game, and while Desolas hasn't met Shepard before, I'm sure he can find a few reasons why he would want to kill him. He was never confirmed dead was he?

I am going to throw out who I think will be the main villainin the Citadel DLC, it’s going to be whoever you left behind on Virmire. They are going to be cyberneticly enhanced Reaper thralls (who would have more reason to hate Shep). I hope I’m wrong, but it fits what we have been seeing. I also remember CP saying something along the lines of the villain having a very good reason to hate Shepard.

I've never read that. Source?

If that's the case, let's see:
- Any merc's son/daughter/parent killed by Shepard (boring)
- Pitne For (that volus drug dealer from Samara's recruitment mission. Boring)
- Jedore's sister (Grunt recruitment mission. Boring)
- A krogan from Weyrloc clan (Mordin loyalty mission. Boring)
- A crazy ex-boyfriend/ex-girlfriend (boring)
- Armistan Banes (that man Michel and Anderson talked about in ME1. No idea)
- A Cerberus agent or a Cerberus agent's parent (maybe someone who lost his/her son in Lazarus Station. Boring)
- A crazy guy who lost someone in the Citadel when Sovereign attacked (Boring)
- Someone from Omega (any Omega mission. Boring)
- Warden Kuril's brother (Jack recruitment mission. Boring)
- An indoctrinated guy (Boring)
...
No, I can't see how a conspiracy could be interesting...

Found the quote from CP "I can't explain yet for fear of spoiling the story, but there is a very  good, story reason why someone is trying to kill Shepard during the Reaper invasion. You'll have to play to find out why."

link: http://social.biowar...x/15967130&lf=8

Don't we hear the same words about the reason why Aria want only Shepard to retake Omega and not other members of the crew? There was also very good reason, but at the end it was just "BECAUSE I SAID SO".

Won't be surprised if it is group of people we never saw or heard about before.

imagine if its all just a trick to get shep on the citadel so they can throw him a suprise birthday party or something... the logo on the mercs arms suggest something to do with the crashed ship on leviathan water planet... same symbol on the ship...

Shepard was spaced and reentered an atmosphere. Also, since we never actually saw the other squad-mate after we made the choice, who's to say they weren't captured? I imagine them being captured, tortured, emotionally twisted to hate Shepard, and turned into a thrall.

That'd actually make me want to buy the DLC, especially if you can get them as a squadmate. Imagine all the cool dialogue they could have of Kaiden/Ashley having to become reacquainted with humanity and battling their inner-demons for what they did in the service of the Reapers.

Shyepard's body wasnot turned to ash.

It cannot be Anoleis because he's dead in some playthroughs. I bet it's Harkin or Kelham.

God i hope not, as Shepard is forced to emote tonnes of guilt throughout ME3 for the Ash/Kaidan and leaving them behind. What was the point of all that if they can poof back into existence.

Smudboy. He'll come out and literally pin-point all of Shepard's flaws until he's nothing but an insecure cry-baby.

I can confirm that the squadmember who was left to die on virmire  is not the mastermind behind the "conspiracy". You'll have to wait till tuesday to find out who is, and I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised.

It's Bailey, isn't he?

Maybe Executor Pailin, that would work for me...

...or DARTH REVAN!

I would say "don't go giving them ideas", but it's too late for that now, isn't it? All I can say is that I certainly hope the OP's prediction is wrong.

Even worse, it could be Nihlus, which would certainly upset both Marauder Shields fans and fans of good storytelling (after all, what possible reason would Nihlus have to want Shepard dead?).
