I think the problem isn't how 'good' he is, it's his viability in gold. I used that exact same build on Gold along with two other players whom I consider wholly competent, and the only conclusion we could come to for Gold and above is to spec full power damage and use the cain mines whilst using him as a dynamic weapons platform, only using the bow as a debuff instead of an offensive.

I happened to play him quite like advised in first post. I went for a 6-6-0-6-6 build. The heavy mélée is not very powerful indeed compared to some other kits, even when maxed out, but it allows hits from a distance and auto-aim : one heavy mélée won't deal much damage but you can fire just after it with garanteed perfect aim. Switching from cover to cover, omni-bowing, firing the executionner, setting mines, running, hiding, peaking, that almost feel like playing a rythm game, and i love it !
I still see three major problems anyway :
- The lack of over-cover grab ; in tensed situation, it's a very useful skill for low health low shield kits.
- Some ennemies don't trigger Cain Mines : Banshees while teleporting and Dragoon while dashing ok, that makes sense. But i've seen many husks crossing the red lazer and nothing happened.
- Peaking out of cover for omni-bowing or shooting seems realy slow compared to some other kits. Maybe it's just an impression, i don't know.

I can kill ravagers with a mine and brutes with two mines. All the troopers go down with a mine (phantoms included). This character, with a juggernaut in the team can get thousand of points easily. One more thing: don't use the bow, only prepare the arrows to give you more mines and that's it. I can use 12 mines (17 if I'm using granade amp).

I think everyone with a brain realizes the Cain mines are extraordinary. The problem is the bow is useless and that was supposed to be the point of the character. A power like decoy would've been great on this kit but we're stuck with two mostly useless powers and a ****ty fitness tree that doesn't support their use.juanjo_dpr9 wrote...
Seriously, people is just stupid. This enginner is the best in the game. It's way better than the demolisher or any other eng. Only using the Cain mines you can do more than 4500 damage against amors. If you are using powers amp you can increase that until 6000 or 7000 against any armor enemy and more than 4000 against shielded enemy. 1) we need the ability to reclaim misplaced mines
2) bow should not be auto-aim (or should at least have a 'manual' option), and should be able to do headshots (otherwise damage should be increased because there's nothing the bow can do that a carnifex can't do quicker and better)
3) something needs to be done to increase his survivability

even hosting this is not happening, he stands up and fires his bow using light melee. To consistantly get grabs it requires tiliting the camera during the grab icon so the only target you see in the grab target and then HOLDING melee and praying that you dont stand up(it's a 50/50 toss up from personal experiance.(btw i did the 200+ waves on gold with him )

As long as you have the grab icon and do not have another hit box on another enemy up, he will grab. Off host it is very unreliable. It's like it can't choose between ranged melee shot or initiating the grab. If you wait a brief pause before initiating the grab it usually works. Like many other players i've tried many times to get the over-cover grab. I've just done a few games running toward the ennemy, get to cover, and try to grab them, but 80% of the time i just get up and fire the bow. Then dodge, run, get cover, stand up...
Sort of an epic and very enjoyable ballet, in a sense.

This was my "Free" character and I have been struggling to get anything really good going with him.
Will re-spec tonight and give it another go.
Of course I also just got the Geth Juggernaur last night so gotta try him out also.
Decisions, decisions?????

even on platinum he's overkill when you just keep using his mines and never(!) use the bow, a handgun is much better and easier to handel
if you nerf this character pls
* increase his shields a little
* maybe add some more power damage
and that's it!
forget about the hunter using the bow, traps are much more efficent

I'm playing a game where I can throw ice, dash into an enemy in a blue streak with over 1000N of force, roast enemies with a handheld flamethrower, and suck the life out of them to add to my own at the flick of the wrist... why, OH why, am I going to want to fire arrows?
Leave the bows n' arrows for Dragon Age, BioWare... lol.
That said, he's still a fun weapons user and the Cain Mines are decent. There's only one or two Engineers I really enjoy playing, Geth being one of them, so he'll be a nice change of pace and a means to honor Sachs, since he's Zaeed with a weird mask.

But, there is one catch : ONLY play him as a host. Otherwise his omni-bow is just terrible.
