Eric I unlocked this character on DLC launch day and I am still unable to play him because i'm left handed and have my keys and mouse in south-paw mode (mouse on the left, keyboard on the right, using arrow keys for moving forward, back, left, right.

How soon will we have a fix for him? I really need switch my keyboard bindings before I can play him. The bug just resets the controls to default (right-handed play).

The bow mechanics are fine. The problem is even with full melee mods, power mods, and gear the bow does horrible damage. It doesn't matter if you have the bow powers active or not.

I strongly dislike how heavy melee grabs control of the camera. It means I can't angle the bolts, like other projectile powers, to avoid cover or change targets once I'm locked on. Particularly infuriating when the bolt doesn't release after I stop pressing the melee key.

Also their speed is slow compared to the movement speed of most enemies (even brutes) that on a dense map, such as London or Glacier, they often collide with level geometry instead.

I'd much prefer a raycast to projectile tracking for collision detection, especially given the cast-time of the heavy melee and that you can't fire it from cover.

Thank you Eric, it's appreciated. Given all the very bad talking about him I heard, I avoided him till now. But this thread has encouraged me to try it out and see how he's like. Thanks! ;)

The targetting system is the worst thing because you can't disable it and free aim. So I go through the whole game targeting swarmers and enemies on the other side of walls.

When using the Talon's heavy melee I'm thinking, "Wait for it.....wait for it..... Nevermind, can I get a revive over here!".

Full melee build, omni blade on Wraith, Joints/Enhancers. 1 shot husk on gold, 3 shot marauders. Decent 2 bar brutes with armor piercing.

Another problem is the talon has no shields so taking the melee in fitness is suicide, he needs a health buff if you need those evolutions to do damage.

I still tihnk you should be able to disable the tracking somehow.
...well, you automatically zoom out when charging it, perhaps squeezing the aim triigger should disable autoaim in the next patch? Just don't remove it outright. Also damage buff plixy plox.

How do I fix only having 82 points? Do I have to promote?

Sorry if already posted but dashboarding cleared that up for me. There maybe an easier solution like leaving character screen and coming back after intitating another action, ie same thing that clears the 66666 bug.

So why is having a character that has to be built in such a specific way to be viable, that a developer has to post on the forums how to build him. This implies that any other build for this character is going to be a burden on the team/player using him.

You guys have done such a fantastic job with everything released for this game, because every character can be built in so many ways. Where did releasing a character with only one real viable build seem like a good idea...?

While the explanation is appreciated... at some point during his development, did you ever think "If a character needs an explanation on how to use them, maybe this isn't the best idea".

Because not everyone comes to this forum. Most want to use a power and go about their business.

Some people are pretty dense.  Like asking do I take Recharge Speed on Throw.

I think the problem isn't how 'good' he is, it's his viability in gold. I used that exact same build on Gold along with two other players whom I consider wholly competent, and the only conclusion we could come to for Gold and above is to spec full power damage and use the cain mines whilst using him as a dynamic weapons platform, only using the bow as a debuff instead of an offensive.

Yeah, I had on all melee gear and power amps along with the heavy blade. I'll try him again tonight on host to see if maybe that was part of the issue. I cannot remember who was host then?

Eric, would it be better to slap on the power amp and melee stunner on the pistol? The heavy blade gives 50% melee bonus versus 25% for the stunner but the power amp is an additional 30%.

If true why the hell would anyone take it when the Cain does a lot more damage over a wider range and you can have more health and shields? Not even mentioning you can boost your weapon damage with the other mod slots and gear.

I also am only using Concussive Arrows and as a defensive power when someone comes to closer to me, the damage is low but at least the arrows stun or put down(unshielded) enemies.

I build my Talon Merc around Cain Trip Mine: high damage and with a bit blast radius. I found him to be really fun to use that way.

I can't help but feel that if heavy melee fired a single, powerful shot that you had to hold down to aim and if light melee was just the basic pistol whip/rifle butt...

Or maybe instead of cain-mines (which are his best thing), you made the omni-bow itself a power, that fired a single shot.

Perhaps if he wasn't so fragile without the health and shields of fitness using the omni-bow as is (minus all the gliches) it wouldn't be so bad.

...I don't even know anymore, at this point all I use the bow for is to shoot at my teammates between waves, using the batarian gauntlet as a heavy melee instead.

The whole 'three shot thing' isn't really helpful unless you're spamming concussive arrows at your feet in the nine out of ten times you find yourself surrounded after thinking that being robin hood in an age of guns was a good idea.

...He is fun to use the avenger with, though! Been having a blast with that.

Always maximize melee damage.

On-topic: those tips are obvious for everyone, who plays the game. Omni-bow damage is so low it takes 2 heavy melee shots with omni-blade 5 and juggernaut gear 5 to kill a silver non-possessed abomination.

The Bow is ridicilous off-host. 50% of time it locks on target and doesn't shoot so you have to roll or use one of your powers. Combine this with enemies who always dodge your shots and you will get the worst class ever.

As for boss figts keep in mind what your arrows trigger block-bubles so it makes AP and C arrows even more useless.

Conclusion: the only proper way to use Talon above silver is to max Cain Mines, power damage and fitness, skipping the bow and AP arrows.

I can't make the arrows work at all. Specing into fitness makes him so squishy, and the damage done is poor. Cain Mine Merc is the only way to roll on Gold+

For reference, each bolt does 100 damage.  With rank 6 in AP Arrows, you can fire 5 bolts.  You can get a 150% modifier from your passive, plus 30% from a strength enhancer.  With a shotgun omniblade 5, you can do 420 damage per bolt, for  2100 damage.  On top of this, the AP Arrows will do damage.  A max damage spec gets 87.5% power damage, plus 50% from a Power Amp.  With a shotgun omniblade 5, this will do 356.25 damage per arrow, for 1781.25 damage.

This works out to 3881.2 damage, enough to one shot centurions and marauders.  It will also get dragoons.

I do find the lock-on a bit troublesome, and cain mines are definitely better, but they aren't bad.

I think they need to add classes that aren't as obvious as others to appeal to all player levels. On one hand you have a lot of people complaining about the TGI and now AIU for being too easy and kits like the Talon and Collector that are too hard.

Someone who is new and might not have their weapons or gear maxed can use one of the more powerful classes to help them along. But eventually they get better and their gear more powerful and they start looking for a more challenging kit.

This. I like the complexity of this kit and I want it to work.

Ran with him pretty easy in Gold once I somewhat understood what I was doing.

Thanks Eric for the pointers. These are a big help.

Thanks, Eric. This is very much appreciated. I love the concept for the Talon and have been using him since Reckoning's release trying to figure out how to make him work.

This kit is too glitchy for me to enjoy. I played him off host last night and it was a nightmare. It showed I had 6 mines layed down. Not to mention enemies walking right through them without anything happening. The bow is terrible.
