most reviewers score games way to high or are paid to review games and give high scores. For example, and this is just my opinion, the Last of Us as a 95 metacritic. The game for me is about an 8 or maybe a 9 but it's nowhere near Bioshock or Mass Effect 2 or GTA4 or even Uncharted. Most reviews are on the high side or completely are wrong. Another example is Metro Last light- it's like in the 80's. And in my opinion is the best game I've played this year. So you know, it's just opinions. I wouldn't throw to much stock into it.

Ign can be a bit stupid when it comes to reviewing big games. It's not a matter of disagreeing with the opinion. It feels like they deliberately give false scores like other reveiwers do to games considered bad by the players.

Yes, there was. Nitpicking a handful of flaws doesn't make a game bad, or even mediocre, or even "merely okay".

The Mass Effect series was always fantastic, even taking all the crap of ME3's story into account, so no, you're not really convincing people differently by saying ME1 had bad shooting controls.

Mass Effect is not overrated. It's highly praised because it's just damn good.

Personally I think that despite the flaws, its still a very great series. No collection of opinions is going to change that.

IGN had an employee within the game, it was a major conflict of interest. Also the ign home page was a mass effect 3 parade during release months.

Honestly its not much of a stretch.

Not directly in the "here's a bribe" sense, but indirectly by way of advertisements and exclusive previews. Do you recall Mass Effect plastered all over IGN, Gamespot and GameFAQs? Those types of advertisements pay the bulk of their website's expenses. Critic reviewers are thereby pressured to give high scores, lest they encore sponsorship wrath. This is why you will rarely see a highly profiled game with even a mediocre score.

A rough comparsion would be a NFL player openly bashing Pepsi or Doritos at the Superbowl, when both paid multi-millions for ad space. You had better believe both companies would be absolutely livid.

I do believe that we, as human beings, have long since learned that just because something is stupid doesn't mean people won't do it.

There's absolutely bugger all preventing reviewers from giving a high score to a game based entirely on personal reasons, such as a big fat wad of cash the publisher slipped in their back pocket. Online game reviews are scored based solely on the opinion of the reviewer in question and fall under no legal oversight.

It's frankly silly and ludicrously naïve to assume it doesn't happen.

Reviews matter so little in the grand scheme of things that the money is better spent on marketing. Bribing a few reviewers is pointless, bribing every reviewer is as equally pointless and a waste of money.

That may be (I don't know anyone like that, personally), but most have already pre-ordered based on all the hype generated by marketing.

Lol @ them. Many crap games receive high metascores. On the other hands, many good receive low metascores. Remember me received what.. like 6.9? Glad I didn't cancel my preorder after seeing the review bombing. Would have missed out on a good game otherwise.

Exactly. After you've played a game series over and over again, that's when you start to begin to see the flaws that a series like Mass Effect has. But ask yourself, did you notice any of those flaws when you first played the series? Or were you too busy enjoying all the other great things about the series to notice the flaws? I know I did, and I still do each time I play it again.

trololol that doesn't justify a 89 metascore. These are almost worthless when everything else sucks in the game.It should be like 75 metascore at best.Oh,the graphics also suck.(Uncharted 1 has better graphics and it came out 1 day later than ME1)

Dear Zod, just stop posting already. I don't know how the mods haven't IP banned you for trolling yet. It's so blatantly obvious at this point, considering you contradict yourself with almost every post (given your name).

It was cute for the first couple of days, but now it's just old.

For starters, there's your name. Judging by your ******-worthless grammar and punctuation, I'm going to assume that you aren't "intelligent".

There's also the content and style of your posts. I've seen you say that Bioware doesn't make good games, but then just now you say that ME3 is good.

Finally, there's the blatant contrarian opinions that you post, just to oppose people. Saying that KOTOR is bad, ME is bad, ME2 is bad, DAO is bad, yet ME3 is good.

Edit: there are also gems like this--

what troll?Who?Where?
Me?says the guy that doesn't like AC lol.
