I love the first game, but I'll admit that the list of negatives Mad Hanar covers can largely reflect my own. Of course, those things are greatly outweighed for me, which is why I've replayed the game multiple times, but those things still remain. In subsequent plays, I often skip some quests to avoid some of the repetition. I'd say he's not off the mark on the other games either. For as much as ME2 is lauded as being such a great game, and I would also agree, the list of issues in that quote are the most glaring flaws. Planet scanning is one of the worst bits in the game, but thankfully, there's a kind of meh-horrible-meh curve. ME1 is relatively quick and painless, ME2 ups the ante and makes it horrific with tedious mineral scanning, which is made completely necessary because it ties into vital upgrades, and ME3 mitigates this somewhat by only having the locator bit, many of which you could overlook now and still get the "best" endings.
I don't agree that the series is overrated, because in the end, I think it's such an intriguing universe that BioWare put together and quite easy to get hooked on, not to mention being satisfying and fun to play, but it is deeply flawed at the same time.
