ME2 is one of the greatest games of all time. 164 GOTY awards. inducted into the Smithsonian. 1 of only 80 games in 40 years to be selected.

Right, a TPS that lacks the basic features of the genre like rolling and going from cover to cover that Gears 1 standardized in '06, mediocre level design where everything looks like a warehouse and A.I from circa 1998 is one of the "greatest games of all time".

Pardon me while I wipe the tears from laughing at such an assertion.

I distinctly remember you posting this exact same comment several days. Now, I'm sure that the people you prefer to spend your time with are very impressed by how many times you can use the phrase 'derp' in a paragraph, and you're not near smart enough to do much else, but it might surprise you to know that not everyone in this world is so impressed by repetition?

Or perhaps it simply takes you several days to think something up? That wouldn't surprise me either.

And every time someone dares criticize ME2 in this forum, NeonFlux pops up with his list of BIG NUMBERS and SMITHSONIAN. Let 'em shout at the rain at each other.

What the hell are you talking about? Seb hasn't said "derp" even once in that post of his.

I know you just love to insult everyone who doesn't worship BioWare and/or Mass Effect, but you honestly have to try harder next time. Because right now you're just making a fool of yourself.

Yeah, I love how he implies the "gaming press" that hands out these "GOTY" awards is worth something.

Thing is there was a huge void for a sci-fi CRPG of its type at the time. Mass Effect came along. There you have it.

Too bad it didn't remain Sci-fi or RPG post ME1.

But once we had ME1 we were hooked. We really should qualify: Computer RPG -- our choices are limited, and not a pure RPG like the old days.

Please. Let's not pretend for a moment that both you and him don't desperately depend on such tactics. Desperately. See, if you weren't as slow as you are, you might have realized that that was a condemnation such tactics in general, not the phrase 'derp' in particular. For example, I would equally frown on phrases like 'herp,' or 'CoD crowd' or 'troll'...basically all the other nonsensical rubbish that you've clearly learned from the internet. Isn't it funny that I have to explain such things to you?

Hmm, I enjoy the games and that's enough for me. Haters will hate and the world will spin regardless of their hate.

It's funny, but none of *those* phrases appear in the post you were replying to, either.

What did appear was very clearly and obviously a pointless and distorted comparison to Gears of War. That certainly qualifies. In any case, I was speaking from experience.

The ME series is the best series ever that could have been, but was not.

Indeed. It's funny to see how clueless David is. He's trying to make fun of us (Seboist and me), but in turn makes himself look like a complete jackass. Quite hilarious indeed.

One has to try REALLY HARD not to see the blatantly obvious similarities between Mass Effect 2 & 3 and the Gears of War series. The gameplay of Mass Effect 2 (or 3) is basically just a Gears of War knock-off with spellcasting added to it. The difference of course is, that Gears of War is a good TPS with a superb cover system, where ME's TPS mechanics and cover system suck hard.

Both are trying to achieve different things, but yes I agree that Mass Effect took some elements, but when do other games not take advantage of others?

Also, David, don't get too heated talking to these two, haha.

Basic rundown of the last few pages: "You don't look at ME1 and 2 through rose tinted glasses?! Well you must obviously be a hater! Those games were flawless! Look at all the awards ME2 got! Yeah, we can use those as examples even though we say the awards ME3 won are irrelevant!"

I'm seeing - Witcher glory and praise more than award-winning ME2 glory.

@The Mad Hanar, remember the golden rule. We like our favorites things not because they were flawless but said things 'shinning moments' are more than enough to smooth over their weaknesses.

It's the same thing, really. The same 'everything else is the best thing ever, ever' hypocrisy.

That's of course assuming the complaints have a shread of merit at all. Most don't.

It's just such an odd thing here. Any time people try to point out the good things in ME3 people go crazy, and anytime people suggest that the first two games have flaws, especially ME1, people go crazy. The crazy part about it is ME3 is a better game than ME1 and has a better plot than ME2.

There's a few things on this board that bugs me, and this element is one of them. I like all three games equally and I feel that all three should be criticized equally. People often say that ME1 should be praised for the chances it took. It could be argued that ME3 took more chances. It's just so odd.

Mass Effect 3 did take more chances, but I didn't like what they did with a lot of it - but that's just my personal preference and I'll praise Bioware when they deserve it and I believe each game should get equal judgement based on stand alone first, to see how it stands, then judge the series as a whole when it's done it's DLC cycle.

I was hoping ME3 would take the best of both worlds from ME1 and 2 and just blow it out of the park....

Every game has flaws. I feel the gameplay and story of mass effect more than makes up for its' flaws. I even kind of enjoy the flaws...sometimes. I still play it more than any other game. I enjoy creating my own Shepard and playing through far more than playing an rpg with a set character or another game with customization. So far nothing has beat out Mass Effect for me.
