Has everybody forgotten about the VOLUS!!

BTW, the majority are soldiers. They are expected to be in great shape. As for civilians...people don't like fat people.

Space dwarves aren't obese, they're just big-boned.

Yeah, plus, we aren't entirely sure they are fat under those suits.  But the human CSEC cop you talk to in ME1 just outside the CSEC academy enterance in the Wards is totally fat.

Yeah, what is up with that guy? I never figured out why he was unique.

I think there two reasons why you don't see overweight people in Mass Effect.

The first is an out-of-universe reason, and that is because as others have already stated, designing different body shapes wasn't given a high priority by the devs except for squadmates. I think in the end that was a good decision, as time and resources were better spent elsewhere. I don't think havng different body shapes for minor characters and NPCs should be given a high priority.

The second is that in universe, people often undergo gene threrapy. People are probably being genetically engineered to be less prone to growing obese. The quality of the good in many cases is probably also better.

I imagine in universe that there are some obese people, they just make up a smaller section of the population that than they do currently, and don't appear in the games. It is also probably limited to less affluent populations who don't have access to gene therapy for their children.

hahaha +1

Yes, there was the officer of C-Sec that was eating too much donuts.
But even in the comics we don't see a fat character (i only red the ones that comes with the collector edition and N7 edition though)... perhaps there is one in the books?

TBF though, the majority of people Shepard interacts with are Mercs, former mercs, military or they have some form of combat training, even the scientists are combat trained in the Mass Effect universe.

Fatties were melted down into biofuel during the 2083-84 energy crisis.

It would have been kind of awesome if, at the start of ME3 when you run into Ashley, she's turned into a bloater rather than little miss perfect.

I really hated her, but if that had happened, I'd so take her on every mission, just to watch her waddle around.

Well there is a fat mod in Skyrim if you really want to see that. But me not so much glad they didn't do that. Nothing against fat people I'm kinda overweight but I just don't want that in my games.

In the future they have gene therapy to cure genetic causes of obesity, metabolic causes, and dietary causes.

They also have reapers which preferentially pick off people who are obese due to laziness first.

They didn't want bigger people in the game probably because 1, it's BioWare, creators of the Asari (hehem). 2, because look at Anne Bryson's -slightly- chubby cheeks, and how bad it looked. Not because they were chubby, but because the Mass Effect 3 designers simply can't pull that off and make it look good graphically. I don't think they're talented enough, at least not with the current technology. So smooth lines and skinny, fit bodies it is. It's easier to design and more appealing to design, -for them-.

They use presets. Much like Fallout, everyone is in shape, even the old people. Creating different body types for each and every character, major and minor, would use up way to much memory. They already had to remove holistering your weapon due to memory limit. Even if they could, I doubt they would, people don't want to see obsese people in a video game.

There were fat people in Fallout, just not too many of them. (I'm talking about the real Fallout games now, not the should-never-have-been-made Bethesda games)

They were good on their own, as post-apocalyptic shooter/RPG hybrids. They were atrocious Fallout games.

Probably because United States disappeared in the future, so fat people went extinct.

-Gene therapy is accecible to humans.
-Cancer is not an issue anymore in the ME universe, why would something as trivial as obesity be? We already do things like gastric bypass procedures messing with mobirdly obese people stomach as a last resort. So certainly in such an advanced future we could easily be able to perfect technique which will prevent people from feeling hunger more then what is required in safer ways.
-Obese people are not uniqueness or something to be proud of, its a serious problem. No obese thinks being obese is a nice novelty and something that makes them unique. It would be like saying we lose uniqueness because we cure handicaped births. Having more fat then your bone structure can handle is not a unique attribute.

Anderson looks a little soft 'round the edges.

Not that it matters because he can run faster than a cheetah on a 100 grams of clenbuterol.
