you want both.
also gonna need a strong back to carry all the crap the rouge will unlock for you.
Mage or Rogue? Which is better?

My first playthrough was a paladin type elven arcane warrior/spirit healer. It was fun just to laugh at the amount of sustained abilities I had on and my fatigue level. My second playthrough was an evil human blood mage (with an epic 'tache.) which was A LOT of fun to play. Walking Bomb is just so overpowered when combined with stun spells. I might have trouble with the second I did kill the only healer, Wynne. I took Lelianna for ranged support. But I tried a dwarven rogue and found out that backstabbing is just so much fun. Anyways, DA:O you need a balanced party.

I have tried both and you just gotta love the mage
Especially an Arcane Warrior. With the right build, you can easily solo the game with one on Nightmare mode >.>

There's a reason the game is sometimes called Dragon Mage: Origins.
Personally, I was just too bored to tears by the mage origin to do multiple playthroughs.

Depends on your style, I enjoy both, though I think I enjoyed Mage most.

i find mage can have more variation in term of style of playing. high replay value. rouge is fun but can get boring after a few playthrough as the playing style is rather fixed.
mage have many spells to choose from which allow you to customized it exactly the way you want it to be unless you are trying to min/max the character, which only some spells will be the best overall. otherwise, mage can have alot of variety of styles to play with. from necromancer to elementalist to supporter or just plain melee mage, druid and such.
