Judging by the absurd amount of sunken-cheeked, starving forum avatars, there are a lot of people that don't know how to get around the facial hair glitch, or simply don't care.  Bioware, please address the facial hair glitch.  You know it's a problem when half of the avatars here seem to be suffering from facial anorexia and have floating beards.  Yeesh.

Until this gets addressed (if, indeed, it ever does), it can't hurt to (re)post the workaround.

1) Memorize the exact spot on the slider your desired facial hair is found (and tweak facial hair color if you like).
2) Remove the beard.
3) Customize everything about your character's appearance EXCEPT facial hair.  Remember that if you dragged the facial hair slider around to find the one you want, the mouth is reset and the cheeks are sunken.  Fill them out unless you enjoy roleplaying a gnarled corpse.
4) Click on the spot you memorized on the facial hair slider.  Do NOT drag.  Touching any sliders from here on out will create a vacuum in the back of your character's throat.  And by that I mean that his cheeks will, in many ways, resemble a great fissure in the earth.

This is very helpful... I messed with the beard for one of my characters for atleast 10-15 minutes before giving up and letting it look like a stick on beard.

Most of the other posts about this are several months old, so it can't hurt to revisit this unaddressed glitch.

It's too bad you are forced to drag the sliders in the console version, therefore the problem persists.   My mage obviously doesn't get enough hot meals in camp

i accidentally figured this out before but didnt realize it had to be a click instead of a slide. so i did it for one character but have not had one bearded character since because the face gets crushed when you "slide" that beard on...

thanks for the heads up, didnt know it was a click to make it right.

Am I right in presuming that this is about the avatars of our characters on this site? I've been trying to get a way for my Human Noble's images to show up so I could use him for my avatar, but so far, no dice. I thought it might be his wearing some of the DLC armor, but I've seen others with it.

... I'm also playing on the PS3, so I'm guessing there's no way to fix it? :_(

Precisely. As far as getting the online profile to update, sometimes deleting characters (from the online profile, not on your computer/console) can help. With any luck, they'll reappear updated. I've also heard that changing what your character has equipped and then saving the game can help too.

Is there anyway you can fix this problem on consoles?

I've given up with facial hair for my humans. This "trick" can work with the console versions if you go with the first beard option, if you don't mind that too much. I've kept that in mind if I make a dwarf down the road.

Yes, it is annoying that this glitch hasn't been fixed yet. It doesn't look right seeing space in between the avatar's beard and face.

My pleasure.  Funny how this issue never got addressed.  There are still beard issues in DA2.
