Literalists can rejoice.  Bad Writing Theory has been vindicated.  A statement (of questionable truthfulness) from spoilsport Ninja Stan:

SpamBot2000 wrote...

It's a theory about the ending that BioWare used to encourage, but now will close any thread if they feature it. Based on the obvious 'indoctrination' elements during the finale that BW put in, since they actually intended there to be a scene of Shep fighting indoctrination. But then they couldn't figure out how to make it playable, so they abandoned it. Still left all the effects in though. Because they don't really give a damn.

BioWare has never "encouraged" IT or its discussion. IT has always been a fan-made interpretation of events, and its discussion should be relegated to Group discussions. Thank you.

End of line.

BioWare stated that it was a literalist ending from day 1. I dont know how people can try to deny the creators' own statements. It's like trying to tell someone you just met that their parents gave them that name because it is an acronym for their personality.

Through rational meta-game thinking, it was really never hard to deduce that.

Personally...I agree, but IT is close to a better understanding. Mind Interface Theory works better, but that's just my opinion.

Stanley is not being entirely accurate in there about BW "never" encouraging IT. What with the countless times Chris Priestly jumped into debates to say how valid IT was and telling everyone how he himself did an IT playthrough. Nevertheless, it seems that BW got spooked by the... uh... eccentric zeal some of the disciples were exhibiting, and decided to drive the thing underground for good.

Wow, seriously Ninja Stan. Really? Did you REALLY want to be THAT guy? Talk about unfortunate wording and timing. Less than a week before Bioware's biggest-ever DLC, as well.

All enthusiasm = Gone. Thanks to a forum jobsworth. Well done Buzz Killington!

Ninja Stan is not a dev. Those sort of decisions whether IT is right or wrong is above his pay grade. Devs have stated IT is a valid interpretation of the ending.

Even Priestly and Merizan have said that one of their playthroughs is in line with IT.

Wouldn't you have been more mad if you wasted 15 bucks on content that you thought would be included in the next DLC?

I can't believe this is so controversial. He said it was a fan-made idea. How is this not accurate?

I'm glad Stan chose to not play around with words.

It's absolutely fine if this is your interpretation of the game and the events of the ending. There's nothing wrong with you believing it.

But it's not the intended message of the game, and it's not something that is ever really going to be intentionally reinforced or exposed through future developments.

If you're waiting for "vindication", the appropriate place to do so is in groups or on another site.

It had its own thread and everything; just a few minutes, I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: Here it is.

Yep.  Devs know stuff.  Moderators look for naughty words.

Why do people not understand - if the creator of a work says your metaphysical/hallucinative interpretation of their work isnt true IT ISNT TRUE. IT is NOT true.

So they intended the racist rape war crime ending...
I will enjoy watching Bioware die a slow and painful death as EA digests them into its bowels...

I thought BioWare had made it clear enough that IT was not there intent and to continue insinuating that so was fallacious. That's exactly what Stan is conveying here.

No, because I had absolutely no inclination to believe there would be any "reveal" of any kind in the Citadel DLC in the first place.  I was merely looking forward to seeing what Bioware had planned for their grand finale.

Unfortunately, a moderator's decision to essentially pour scorn on the ideas, opinions and year-long speculation of a section of their fan base has poured cold water over that enthusiasm.

Frankly if that's going to be the forum's offical line on their fans speculating on the story they've created, then forget it.  I'm no longer interested.

Stanley was a "dev" until last year.

It's fine if you wish to discount his words, but he was as much aware of the game's intending meaning as Chris (who he worked directly with) and Jessica.

All he said was that it was an interpreation put together by the fans, which is true. I can look for the threads if you like.

I, for one, can't wait for this DLC to drop and the uToobs to load up so we can all put this rest... well mostly to rest.
