As anyone can see, of late there have been a substantial number of posts about the possible villain of the citadel dlc. They range from the desperate (harbinger?) to the ridiculous (the leviathans?) to the utterly absurd (the Virmire victim?).

I am certain that I won't be alone in thinking this (despite my searches turning up 0 results) but surely the most obvious candidate for villan - if we already know the villan, of course - goes to Bailey.

Of course he may not be the main villain of the piece but did nobody else notice the plot during the citadel coup seemingly screaming at us 'This guy's up to no good!' while flashing a big neon flashing arrow at Bailey's blonde bonce?

He has been shot but is still alive. He gets Shepard into the citadel proper and indicates where the big guy should go. He arrives in the lift after Shepard's confrontation with the VS and claims that Leng and his Phantom entourage have scuttled off without him laying an eye on them.

He has no significant role whatsoever after the coup. He is also the only 'main' (Kelly Chambers aside!) character to inhabit both ME2 and ME3 with no discernable point.

Why might he hate shepard? Unknown, but he does come to power at c-sec after the events of ME and talks an awful lot about the damage done to the citadel during Sovereign's attack. Maybe he lost someone.

Apologies for any grammatical or spelling errors in this post. English IS my first language but I am currently very drunk.

Ah drunk posting. I can drink to that.

Priestly said it's someone who has a cause to hate Shepard.

BUT WHO!?!

As long as it isn't Zombie Saren I think we'll be okay.

Batarians! Would you not hate the guy that killed whole planets with your people on them? They have nothing else to lose. Or knowing Bioware a new character from Shepard's distance past. Maybe the guy he surpassed in the Academy. I mean Bioware could pull turd right out and deliver it. Slight polishing needed.

@Syk18

I'm not sure those last two sentences were entirely necessary, or appropriate...

I shall drink to you drinking with me. I don't know whether that makes me feel more or less of a loser.

In all honesty, Zombie Saren may be a distinct improvement on some suggestions put forward. Although since he died in ME and then came back so that you could kill him again before the credits, I supposes he would be Zombie Zombie Saren...

It's Lilith from Horizon. She was liquefied at the Collector Base, but she gained liquid sentience via wavy hand magic and has taken over the remains of the Reaper TIM collected. She then seized control of the Chronos Station and is now going after Shepard because he watched while she got all melted.

Hey, I can make a bad villain too!

I'd rather have Avina as the "villain." Already have a story lined up and everything.B)

Why hasn't anyone suggested the hanar preacher. Shepard called him a stupid jellyfish! Fighting words if you ask me. For years that hanar has been secretly plotting his revenge. Move over Blasto, this one is about to take his revenge

We've already established that it's the Space Hamster that is the villain of the Citadel DLC.

Cool. Do tell.

(I wrote those lines and then wondered whether they may sound sarcastic. They are not. Please, do tell!)

I hope it isn't a new character.

I want to ride the nostalgia train at full speed.

Brilliant! If this does turn out to be true then I shall find some way of purchasing a dozen copies. It is important that Bioware should know that good writing does not go unrewarded!

Seems much more plausible than Harbinger and the Virmire victim, lol.

I think it will probably be a new character. If not, than someone like Harkin or Elias Kelham.

Helena Blake. She's smart, experienced and under the radar. Shepard is her only real obstacle when it comes to getting a lot of power.

Can't be Anoleis or Blake because they could be dead.

Armistan Banes?

Well, I toyed with the idea that, instead of trying to kill Shepard, someone might want to actually keep him out of harm's way. It would involve luring him to the Citadel where he'd be detained over some trumped up charge (probably colluding with Cerberus in some form or another), then his shuttle would blow up while he was being transferred to a detention facility. Naturally, someone pulled off a bait-and-switch with the shuttle and Shepard is very much still alive but held in a secret facility on the Citadel where Avina would reveal herself as the one who pulled all the strings to get Shepard there. Why? Over the course of the trilogy Avina evolved (on its own or with help) to the point of becoming self-aware and realised that, despite Shepard's warnings, the Reapers would win the war. As a result, she prepared for that outcome by creating a facility that would save a select amount of people in stasis pods so they could start anew during the next cycle (sort of what the Protheans tried to do with Javik). Shepard was the obvious candidate to save due to his resilience, his experience fighting Reaper forces, and also because of the Prothean Cipher.

I was also toying with the idea that this "ark" would be human exclusive, since Avina had determined that humanity was the group that showed most potential in creating a civilization that could ultimately defeat the Reapers. In order to persuade Shepard she would reveal some truths, like how the Council had known about the Reapers even before Shepard had had his vision in ME1, how they had instructed Saren to find a way to stop them, etc.

Just some random thoughts, you know.

Banes is a distinct possibility, but the cynic in me says that he was one of the charcters set up for more in ME1 who has been lost along the way...
