Always makes sure to never use Garrus. Forced on me and overhyped.

ME1- Ashley and Tali, just to to compliment my Shepard's powers.
ME2- Miranda, because she was my LI and sentinels are extremely useful squadmates. Grunt, because he was a great tank for me and Miri, and the only character who actually felt like a soldier under my command, while the others felt like mercs and friends who were there becaus ether were paid, to help me, or the cause the they it was a privilege
ME- Garrus, Tali, and Kaidan. Garrus because overload and combat prowess were extremely useful, and he's a damn good friend. Tali because she felt necessary for the whole Rannoch quest line, even if she wasn't forced, and she's a good friend. Kaidan for the same reasons as Garrus, plus Reave..

ME1: My memory is a little fuzzy, but I believed I used Ashley and Tali most.

As a vanguard, my combos were Tali/Wrex and Kaidan/Garrus

In ME2, I used Miranda a lot cause warp + overload = win

In ME3, it depended on the mission, but since I had them all the way through, probably Vega and Liara.

i cant really say, i use a variety, i finished the games many times.. Me1: all of them equal, Me2: miranda; grunt; thane; samara; garrus; kasumi; legion, me3: javik; liara; edi; garrus

For Mass Effect 1, the squadmates I used most depended on my class
Soldier: (100% Combat)
Liara (100% BIotics) & Tali (100% Tech)
Engineer: (100% Tech)
Liara (100% Biotics) & Ash (100% Combat)
Adept: (100% biotics)
Ash (100% Combat) & Tali (100% Tech)
Sentinel: (50% tech/50% biotics)
Ash (100% Combat) & Kaiden (50% tech/50% biotics)
Vanguard: (50% combat/50% biotics)
Tali (100% Tech) & Wrex (50% Combat/50% biotics)
Infiltrator: (50% Combat/50% Biotics)
Liara (100% Biotics) & Garrus (50% Combat/50% Biotics)

(I had a thing about balancing my squad...)

For Mass Effect 2&3, I used a more set squad seeing as the Tech/Biotic/Combat bars were removed
Mass Effect 2: Garrus & Miranda (Sniper & Crowd Control)
Mass Effect 3: Garrus & James (Sniper & Tank)


TL;DR: ME1-squad depended on Shep's class; ME2&3: Squad depended on personal preferences & in some cases unique dialog

I always prefer to take soldier types, they're hard to kill and can lay down a good amount of firepower.

basically were my team combinations on the hardest difficulties.

On one playthrough:

ME1- Tali and Garrus
ME2 - Tali and Garrus
ME3 - Tali and Garrus

Was neat. Otherwise I used Wrex a lot in 1, pretty much used everyone in 2 and never ever used Vega in 3 aside from first part of Mars mission and on one Firebase Glacier sidemission.

On a different class playthrough I change it up a bit.

Mass Effect 1: Wrex. I had a tendency to switch between liara and garrus for the 2nd squadmate
Mass Effect 2: Samara when possible. Other than that, didn't really use one persn a lot
Mass Effect 3: Liara, Garrus

I used each character mentioned mainly because I liked them, not for their usefulness(or uselessness in some cases) in combat.
