To give some perspective, it's not that we think the character is real, its not that they replace real people, its just that they have very attractive qualities we like, or things we think is cool. To me? It's just something cute and something personally between my lover and I. Of course my real obsession is my boyfriend and always will be.
This guy seems pretty normal, even if really eccentric about his characters, and is probably a nice person, and you are all really assumptive people to judge him based on something as meaningless as a video-game crush. I honestly think thats cute of him, and I wish him the best with his girl-friend and hope she isn't upset by it. Because leaving someone over a harmless video-game crush, is a horrible idea.
Infact, you could say he is obsessed over her because she reminds him of his Girl-Friend, this is why I love lots of Mass Effect characters, a lot of them remind me of my lover, or atleast do in some way or part.
I won't even go into other reasons, like emotional escapes, but point is, there is lots of reasons a normal person would do this.

I disliked her before ME3. After finding out about the beacon they hid? Yeesh.
I still wish we had an option to chew her out after Thessia instead of apologizing via autodialogue...
You can turn off Autodialogue right? I always use the conversation wheel.

Nope. That whole segment talking to the Asari councilor after Thessia is autodialogue. Shepards of all stripes say the same thing with no player input.Alien Number Six wrote...

To each their own, of course - that segment just bothered me.
