She is a super cool character, oozing with damage potential and very unique attributes. A lot of folks are saying she is best suited speccing out of Poison Strike... to that I say, "Why not just play the Turian Ghost?" because speccing out of Poison Strike essentially turns her into a Ghost clone (Stimpacks = Biotic Focus, Chain Overload CC's similar to Nightshade Blades).

I wanted more than anything to make a build centered around Poison Strike, Melee, Nightshade Blades and Biotic Focus... with as little weapon use as possible. I find playing the character much more rewarding than playing 'the weapon' and putting a Harrier/Raider/whatever on her. I'm not saying that I don't use the weapons, I do quite a bit... but they are more tools that allow her unique abilities to be elevated.

So here is the build:

4 - Poison Strike - Damage
6 - Nightshade Blades - Damage, Poison Duration, Exploding Blades
6 - Biotic Focus - Movement Speed, Duration, Biotic Shield
4 - Passives - Power Damage & Capacity
6 - Fitness - Melee Damage, Shield Recharge Delay, Fitness Expert

Weapons I use: Acolyte X w/ Pistol Power Amp & Melee Stunner, Collector SMG X w/ High Velocity Barrel & Extended Clip. This allowed for 200% recharge rate. The CSMG could be swapped out with a Hurricane or Blood Pack Punisher if you'd prefer... but the Acolyte is a must have IMO. The SMG is simply used for boss killing, other than that it stays holstered.

Gear used: Incendiary Ammo IV, Grenade Capacity V, Strength Enhancer III, Cyclonic Modulator III.

Strategy/Logic:

The Cabal has the unique ability to paralyze enemies at will, no other kit in the game has something like this. The whole point of the build is to accent this trait.... this is where the Acolyte comes in. You cannot paralyze something with shields... nothing removes shields as quickly and efficiently as the Acolyte (except the Reegar, but we don't talk about the Reegar).

One Acolyte shot followed by a Poison Strike will outright kill any shielded mook in the game with the exception of Possessed Captains/Phantoms. With Incendiary ammo, this causes a Fire Explosion, Paralysis, and death. You don't even have to turn around to watch it... it will show up in the kill feed a few seconds later.

Her melee is supremely awesome... because it looks REALLY cool and does pretty decent damage. I tend to favor the light melee combo when I'm on a cooldown, because it eats up time... then I can Poison Strike afterwards (either into the enemy, or use it to retreat/find the next bad guy). The Heavy Melee is also cool.. it does good damage, teleports you a decent distance, and can decapitate Possessed Abominations causing them to not explode.

Biotic Focus.... should be spammed. If you aren't on a cooldown, it's almost always beneficial to use Biotic Focus. The speed, damage reduction, and melee increases are all wonderful and should be kept on as much as possible. It's also your "Ohh $h1T" button... whenever you get shield gated, spam Biotic Focus and then spam your dodge. Reaquire your targets, reassess the situation, refill your shields with Biotic Focus and get back to killing.

The one weakness of the character IMO is against crowds... this is where Nightshade Blades comes in. When you roll up on a spawn or 3+ enemies... spam Nightshade Blades with reckless abandon. I mean spam the crap out of them too... like at least 2-3 of them. This will cause the weaker enemies to die outright, and paralyze the others allowing you to mop up with your badass Wolverine melee attacks. Nightshade Blades can even paralyze Phantoms... which is incredibly useful. I took the Exploding Blades evo because I wanted more stagger/Crowd Control... even though Nightshade Blades will stagger things if you hit them from close range.

Bosses: This can be tricky for some folks... melee and power spam is usually not the way to go about taking on big armor. This is where the SMG earns it's keep. Use right hand advantage and the Acolyte to strip the shields off of... an Atlas let's say. Then when the armor is exposed, lay into it with your SMG.

Another tactic I have discovered is this: Once the shields are down you can Poison Strike the Atlas for a Fire Explosion... then instead of turning around... do your backwards dodge and you will be facing the boss again. Shoot it for remainder of the cooldown, then Poison Strike again, repeat until the boss is dead. It causes the boss to spin around back and forth trying to track you... like a dog chasing its tail. It's hilarious and effective... if you get shot doing this (Atlas super homing missile) just use Biotic Focus, find a right hand advantage angle to shoot/recharge shields, then resume. You can get them so spun around that you can even bring your melee to bear towards the end of their armor/life.

All this brutality, and her incredible mobility make this an extremely enjoyable character to play IMO. She does have a learning curve, quite a steep one actually... as keeping her alive is no easy feat. But with a little practice, she can become a total badass.

People say that Poison Strike has hit detection issues, and this has been brought up several times on BSN over the last 48 hours. This is true... but the issues are pretty consistent. Poison Striking from an elevation change will cause it to miss sometimes (especially when you are attacking from above). I've also Poison Striked between a Praetorian's legs for no damage... which I thought was funny. But other than those situations... it hits 95% of the time for me... even off host. Since my tactic is to Acolyte the shields off (which staggers) I can typically close in during the stagger and line Poison Strike up... and it consistently hits.

There you go BSN. Enjoy. Posted Image Looking forward to the discussion. Let me know if I missed anything.

MB out.

Nice guide ! A very interesting take on the Cabal..
Though I must confess that I suck at using the Acolyte...  (inb4learntoshoot)

Hence I never tried this but yeah..her paralysis ability makes mooks, Collector Captains, Phantoms. trivial..

If only the paralysis would work on Derpgoons...

Thanks for the kind words. Posted Image

The Acolyte surely feels weird... but man does it offer all kinds of intangibles that other weapons cannot equally provide.

Goons... yeah... they suck. Ripping them to shreds with melee and Nightshade Blades feels goooooooooooooooooooooooooood... they're also quite easy to avoid with her insane dodges.

I play her without the nightshade blades using poison strike as a full on mobility power. amazing how well this build works with a geth scanner.

That's actually a pretty good idea... wonderful synergy with Poison Striking through walls.

Don't know that I could give up Nightshade Blades overall... that's alot of spike damage to crowds... and I feel she is pretty weak vs crowds overall.

Nope.

I play 6/6/6/5/3 with Double Dash, Exploding Blades and Biotic shield. Specced for power damage and Grenade capacity.

You rush the spawn, fire your Blades, fire your weapon with Incendiary ammo, prime them, then Poison strike trought them. Poison strike will not trigger a CD, cos it's double dash, so now you can Poison Strike again or use Biotic Focus.

Already done a Gold solo twice with her, will do an Ultimate Platinum with Phaeston only on Condor vs Reapers cos I feel anal like that.

I think it's unfair to liken a Poison Strikeless Cabal with a Turian Ghost - Nightshade Blades is MUCH deadlier than Overload and Biotic Focus provides a larger variety of buffs.

Yeah I need to respec my build, only took 3 levels in Nightshade blades initially, but they are awesome.

I've asked this in a couple of cabal threads now and not gottena response from anyone.  So a question for those who take exploding blades on nightshade blades.... it ends the DOT poison damage, correct (just like how the same evo on ballistic blades ends the dot bleed damage)?  So with that thought in mind, is there a reason to take both poison duration and exploding blades?  Because that seems rather counter-intuitive if I'm not mistaken about the above.

I can't seem to decide what to do with nightshade blades.  I've tried them with multiple specs and I just don't use them that much.

I was experimenting with her today and found no problem with poison strike either on host or off. I think the reason people have problems with it is due to it being an untracked, traveling power with a thin radius. In other words, if your target is more than a few meters away, you need to lead. I'm used to doing this with shockwave, it's really the exact same thing. People complain it doesn't work at all because they point it at an enemy and fire and the enemy moves to the side.

Poison strike should not really be used offensively; it is an escape power primarily.

Excellent guide. Thank you for taking the time to write it.

However, wouldn't range be more useful on Poison Strike? Nightshade Blades too.

According to some testing a player did yesterday, the range seems to only affect travel range, not the range at which you do damage.  Basically what the test was able to determine is that Poison Strike always only damages enemies within the 7.2 meter range (the distance you get if you take double strike and don't spec for range at all).  SO as long as you're only taking range to get a better travel distance, yeah range would work fine.  But you're stillonly going to damage enemies within the 7.2 meter range of your start point.

Mind you none of the PC math nerds have broken open files to run more controlled tests but this seems to track with lots of anecdata.

It doesn't specifically say it does, unlike the Ballistic Blades which say that, though I haven't played with this character yet so I can't comment. But it makes sense, and going with the other evolution would give up some CC for more poison effectiveness.

^This.  PS isn't going to kill a boss as fast as other powers or weapons, but it will let her distract it for as long as she likes, while the rest of the team safely pumps bullets into it.  I have yet to be sync-killed with her, and I'm not sure that's true of any other kit.

When you PS a boss, it seems to be guaranteed to draw the aggro of that boss.  Hilarity and death then ensue.  Scions look particularly silly flailing around trying to get you, and if they try to fire, you're always on the opposite side of them by the time it goes off.  But they usually just sit their flailing one arm trying to smack you as you teleport back and forth through them.

I've been running a 66653 build, and have to say that I don't miss the extra points in Fitness, not with Biotic Focus. The advantage to taking PS to 6 is stronger explosions, from yourself with ammo or from teammates powers.

I was hoping to run my cabal last night, I went for almost a pure melee build with DR biotic focus, it is high risk but worth it being able to one combo phantoms on gold. It is definitely risky but if you got a good connection, and you are on your game it is so rewarding. I definitely wanna do a cabal game when you got the chance.

4/6/6/4/6 sounds reasonable

its what id do after my testing.

would go for a good balance between melee, weapons and powers.

I tried essentially the same build with Fitness 6a instead to great results... on Silver. I pulled back and respecced, using the same specs as Mega for NB and BF, leaving PS at 3, going Power, Power, Damage on Passives and stopping at rank 5 for Fitness and NBing All the Things to tremendous results on Gold. PS is fun and essentially adopts mechanics from KOA:R, but on higher level play, it can be pretty touch and go. As in Praetorian touch you and you go bye-bye.

This is nearly the exact build I use and have posted before. The only difference is I take 5a in fitness as the shield recharge is all but useless and you are focusing on melee. Biotic Focus's barrier restore does that much better than 5a would.

Likewise, there's no reason to take duration on BF since you are spamming it and since you are focusing on melee, it makes sense to take the added damage.

Also, I use the Talon with melee and power mods. The Acolyte is good, but the whole charging thing messes with the necesarry mobility. Also, carrying two weapons isn't really recommended. You aren't going to be shooting a ton and you won't the lowest cooldowns as possible.
