I'm using this as more of a guide to make sure I have the prerequisits in mind. I have a habit in these games of just jumping in and wasting 10 or 20 hours playing to realize that I have made a mistake that nerfs my character and have to start again. I do see your point about the lack of strength but based on this lvl 22 character ( http://social.biowar...&game=dragonage ) I am missing 23 attribute points, I'm sure I will boost str and con for that matter. but without knowing where those 23 point come into play or what stats they increase or when in the game I simply ignored them for the time being. I just find it easier and faster to get into the game if I have a good outline of my characters level progression. btw. the 23 points don't include bonuses from equipment, which, judging by the above character can add quite a bit to the character stats. thanks for the input. I assure you I probably will not end up with a lvl 20 rogue with 11 str. peace

That's why I made a point that it's still nice to plan your skills/talent path ahead, in other words the prerequisits you were talking about ;).

I for example would like to make a Duel Wield axe handler rogue, but without understanding the strength mechanism for handling axes I have no clue when and how much str I need to add.

Second, any mage who thinks they can top an rogue is out of thier league,  as proven above

Third, an arrow is faster than a magically lobbed fireball

Human rogue. <---

As i've spent no time looking into how character progression works, I have no idea what skills I'll go for.

I just thought of something cool! I hope it's possible to not just disarm enemy traps, but actually uninstall them from their locations, & redeploy the traps in enemy reinforcement paths & laugh our heads off at the enemy getting slaughtered by their own traps they thought they knew the locations to. Tyrax: You could do that in NWN1, so it doesn't seem like too much to ask. I guess it depends on the mechanics, but it's the kind of detail Bioware tend to consider.

I love playing rogues.. My first character through any game that has the option of being a sneaky thief has always been. Next in line to rogues my favorite has always been a druid.. mostly because I like running around with an animal as my number one companion.

I picked human noble rogue too. Im really into the idea of a knight who can really **** someone up and then play the guitar, so im going bard with two swords.

There was no other choice. You have to pick a human noble. :innocent:

Dwarf Commoner seems to be my choice, since rogues are not spellcasters and hence a human racial bonus +1 Magic would be wasted. In contrast to D&D, dwarves do not get an equivalent of charisma penalty and, as to the bonuses to Dexterity, they equal humans. Plus, I have never played dwarf in my entire life ;o)

A commoner seems to be a logical choice, taking into account that rogue is not a favourable profession amongst clan-full dwarves.

Agreed! Humans will benefit from rogue specs that'll use Magic, (if any) elves will rock with specs that'll use Magic quite a bit, (if any) & dwarves will rock with specs that'll ignore Magic. There's a place for all of us! Which is coolness by the kegful! Image IPB

I dunno, I think Dwarf Commoner is the most rogue oriented. Just take a look at what backstory on that origin ya get landed with. Can it get more obviosly rogue oriented than that?

With the dalish, they could seem rogue-like, or they could seem like forest warriors. With the dwarf commoner, ya either a rogue, or a rogue-like warrior.

Going with a human noble rogue with first specialization being duelist and then deciding between assasin or bard. Going to go duelist with two swords, just not sure what types we get yet.

I'm still debating over archery and dual wielding. I'm more than likely going to make myself a scout / mage protector. I'm sure I'm going to end up making 2-4 version my rouge to see what I like. Hell, in Mass Effect I made 4 characters until I ended up sticking with infiltrator.

Know how ya feel! It can be seriously hard to decide what character type will fit oneself best. Image IPB

I was reading a post of GameFAQS (yeah, go ahead and laugh) about how one poster was complaining. They were saying that archery wasn't as good as it was in BG. Trust me after being on GameFAQS a while you learn to take things with a Honda Civic full of salt. Another reason I'm leaning toward dual wield is because I haven't seen the other talents for the advanced classes just yet.

No laughing here. I'm a GameSpot user. I don't see anything wrong with such things.

It's a bit soon to be gauging Archery's effectiveness or lack of.

lets put it this way, dual-wield you dont have to worry about arrows. And if the darkspawn get to close to your position, then it will be to late. while of course it would be best to make one or the other (archer or D-wielder) it might also be interesting to see what making a half and half would be like.

This is what im gonna try and do
