I personally liked the Fade sequences, the first few times anyway. But that goes for pretty much everything, things just aren't as fun and exciting the third or fourth time around. You can't exactly base all experiences around them always being fun after repeated playthroughs.

DA:O Fade was exactly as I pictured it would be, a confusing mess of puzzles, spirits and all kind of bizarre. It was its own kind of fun.

I found it tedious on my first playthrough while loving everything else in Origins.

While I don't HATE the Fade sequences, in DA:O it was a little too long. Actually really too long. In DA:3, it should be less than DA:0, but more than just a quick skip through like it was in DA:2.
At the risk of sounding like a whiner... yeah it hurt my eyes a bit too after a while. You don't really notice how nice and clear the game is until you're back in the tower.

I don't know anyone who enjoyed being in the fade for more than 60 seconds. In Origins, you were forced to be there for a very long time. In DA2, it was relatively quick and painless, but was only cool if you brought Anders along. It still looked like ass, though.

One of the big reasons why I hate the fade is because it's an eye sore. Seriously, the graphics and art direction for this place (where supposedly the Maker dwells) is some of the worst I've ever seen in a game. How on earth did the artists at Bioware think that this looked good in any way shape or form? Image IPB

So, please, Bioware... no more. Just stop.

It was quite possible the most tedious, redundant thing about Origins. Especially on the console, where you don't have a magic 'skip the fade' mod. It was always the thing I left for last, as it was the thing i hated the most.

In DA2... the fade mission pissed me off. A lot. Mainly because of the whole 'If you kill a mage in the fade, they become tranquil' idea. And then if you bring Merill with you and kill her because she betrayed you... she still has magic. Same goes with Anders if you have to off him as well. They still retain their magic.

The Fade and The Deep Roads are crutches, IMO. One of those things that the developers will put into the game only to satisfy the hardcore fans who will throw a fit if they aren't. The game should be solvent without having to enter mystical magic lands and underground rock kingdoms to up the bar.

I certainly don't want them to throw in the Fade just to placate people. If they can do it well that's one thing. But having it there just to have it there... nah. Next.

Actually, Marethari only applies that rule to Feynriel, either because of his status as a Somniari, or because the ritual places the player inside Feynriel's personal dream world. At no point does she say that it would affect any other individual.

After reading the first page of the thread, I thought I'd also voice that I really liked the fade in Origins, Awakening and 2. The puzzles, combat and mystery of the plane were a nice addition and a refreshing perspective on the lore. It made the Fade tangible and not something we had to take at the word of other mages that it existed at all. I also really liked Justice in Awakening, and was very curious about the awakening darkspawn and how their sentience / intelligence related to the Fade. I know puzzles existed in other venues and the darkspawn could be explained in a codex entry but my point is that I had fun experiencing those sorts of things.

The fade in DAO is what keeps me from replaying it on my PS3, which keeps me from replaying it at all because it's a game I don't have for my PC :(

I can't get past the character creator because I can never choose between elf and dwarf.

I really wish the Fade was more of a psychological thing, like in The Calling, where the Fade changes to whatever your companion is dreaming of and you can get out of situations using wit rather than fighting.

Would've been nice.

EDIT: And I don't mean your companions standing in the same eye-melting plane, I mean, Leliana is dreaming of Val Royeaux with Marjolaine, you're in Val Royeaux with Marjolaine, Oghren is dreaming of a tavern in Orzammar, you're in a tavern in Orzammar etc.

I liked the fact that you needed to use different abilities in the Fade in DAO. It went on too long and the maze-like quality got irksome, but overall I was fine with it.

I loathed the Deep Roads section far more, with Shale's revelation as the one exception. And I found that particular section of DA2 least enjoyable too.

I would like to explore the Fade more, talk to the denizens and find more about that place.

You know, EpicBoot2daFace, I thought you were just a "hater," but I gotta say, I agree with you on this. 100%. I endorse this message of yours.

The fade was pretty tedious and exhausting, although for me, the deep roads was just grueling. Absolutely grueling. The deep roads is what dissuaded me from replaying DA:O; just the thought of having to grind my way through those endless, bland tunnels makes me nauseous.

But the fade is right behind that. Oh god, the mage tower and the sloth demon. God help me. I generally like DA2 more, but that right there is reason enough to prefer DA2: minimal deep roads and fade.

For $60 I want depth in my games.   They need a reasonable compromise like Awakenings Fade.

Some of us want to play the games we buy. We don't want things easily handed to us

The Fade is awful in DAO, I finally manage to drop the game today after completing said sequence, While I do felt it was a tad to short in DA2, I prefer that over that long chore in Origins. Surprised people hated The Deep Road to? I frankly liked everything that had to do with Ozzammar

Boring, tedious, and drawn out levels, do not add depth to a game. It's called filler and it's not good.

@Scelous: Thanks. I hope that this thread is seen by BioWare and they actually make some changes. If that means getting rid of the Fade entirely, so be it. But if we must have it, at least make it bearable.

The length of the DA:O Fade mission and how complicated it was here and there is what made it so blasted annoying.

The Fade in the games could be like the Fade sequences as the writers intend them to be. In Asunder the Fade sequence was a dream, AS IT SHOULD BE. They should get rid of the hazy **** and make it feel real but unreal at the same time. The haze makes it look so bad, it completely alienates the player from the experience your character is going through.

The graphics team should check out the dream sequence from Fable 2. That was a well executed dream sequence. It was completely unreal but it didn't look like ****.

I agree with OP. I disliked going into the fade in Origins, there was just so much backtracking doing that annoying puzzle trying to find your companions. The art decision was bad too, but I disliked the quest more. The only good thing about it was you were rewarded with skill points if you had the patience to look for them.

Fade sequences for me not the problem, in DAO it was the  backtracking that was a pain in the keester.

Though experiment: if a level worked mechanically just like DA:Os Fade -- lots of running back and forth through a maze to get the right gadgets to open various portals, some non-standard combat, etc. --but it wasn't actually set in the Fade, would you folks have liked it better than the Fade we got, or not?

What I'm reading here sounds like hostility to puzzle elves rather than the Fade per se.

Puzzle elves are the worst kind of elves.
