Though experiment: if a level worked mechanically just like DA:Os Fade -- lots of running back and forth through a maze to get the right gadgets to open various portals, some non-standard combat, etc. --but it wasn't actually set in the Fade, would you folks have liked it better than the Fade we got, or not?

What I'm reading here sounds like hostility to puzzle elves rather than the Fade per se.

I still think alot of people want everything made easy for them.  But you may be right.

I think people better come to terms that there will likely be a FADE sequence in DA3.

They are not going to get rid of something that is part of the lore.

I loved the fade and how it looked. This is a really pointless complaint, It was fun, engaging and great for more lore on the fade.

I always played Origins with the mage origin and I couldn't help but be drawn into the fade, especially when I had to go back and complete the mini puzzles to leave. It was really interesting, which is emphasised more in Awakening when finding Justice and roaming through the really weird and unique landscape.

I wouldn't and I like puzzles. My problem with the Fade in da:o is that you have to backtrack. A Lot.
The bizarre dreams... cool.
The shapeshifting... good, but no matter which way you go through the Fade sequence you have to go through most of the sections a mimimum of twice, and it is not like that you have to think about the puzzle. It is pretty obvious which form goes through which obstacble.

My problem with the deep road is that it is long and boring and filled with areas that doesn't progress the plot/quest much.

Edit. I love the mage origion, Mouse is interesting, the sloth demons is interesting, Valor is funny and the enemies are interesting to fight with the level there is. And the backtrackign doesn't feel tedious because it is such a small area.

My problem with the fade is that it's always about demons, demons, demons... and you always have to defeat one sloth demon, one desire demon and one pride demon. This isn't interesting anymore, there are other spirits in the fade too.

I'd like the fade to have more puzzles and maybe more talking and solving the quest through conversation, maybe have an option where getting through the fade quest doesn't require any fighting. I'd like to talk to other spirits that inhabit it. Aside from Justice we haven't even met other nonhostile spirits. Also maybe some areas could be more colourful than the same dull brown everywhere. After all the spirits are trying to shape the fade after dreams and some dreams are more colourful.

I for one LOVED the fade. Hated DA:O until I started again as a mage. Fade got me hooked.

I don't know anyone who enjoyed being in the fade for more than 60 seconds. In Origins, you were forced to be there for a very long time. In DA2, it was relatively quick and painless, but was only cool if you brought Anders along. It still looked like ass, though.

One of the big reasons why I hate the fade is because it's an eye sore. Seriously, the graphics and art direction for this place (where supposedly the Maker dwells) is some of the worst I've ever seen in a game. How on earth did the artists at Bioware think that this looked good in any way shape or form? Image IPB

So... what? You want a bright world full of rainbows and unicorns or a dark and twisted world full of demons? I myself find it fitting. I think they should do it like Awakening, I enjoyed the fade in that game. DAII was too brief to even mention it.

LOL to the bold part.

The Fade should not be in DA3 as the Fade is like all other teachings of the Chantry and the vile mages, a lie.

Glory is found only in the Qun.

This doesn't make any sense.

Don't see why it has to be one of them. The yellow brown tint is annoying though.

Only as you have bought into the lies of the Chantry and are seeing illusions created by the foul mages.

Bah, the Fade was boring, monotonous, and hurt my eyes with that stupid fisheye effect. Nix it or fix it.

Sounds infintely more interesting than another trip through BioWare's imagination gone wrong.

Cons of Fade areas we have had

-Too much back tracking. This is down to level design and not intrinsic to the fade.
-No loot. They sort of solved this by granting permanent stat bonuses, not as interesting but good enough for an overall small part of the game
-Colour palette is too bland. It is a bit. I think they could look at changing it. Make nearby objects more vibrant but limit your range of vision with billowing mist or sinister shadows with glowing eyes staring at you.
-Story reasons. Getting sucked into it by a demon is getting old. Two instances (the longest) have been triggered where you think you are getting close to an objective and then suffer a drawback. This is somewhat demoralising. I found the times where you enter the fade on purpose better. But it is the realm of dreams, the writers should be more creative, send the character into the fade to learn an ancient secret, to assassinate an evil mage, travel to somewhere else in the real world quickly etc etc A lengthy combat section after we have just had a lengthy combat section is not good pacing.
-No companions. Solution they have already added companions. Don't make the sections with no companions too long.

Pros of the fade
-It is extremely different and rules can be broken. Anything is possible. I liked the shapechanging in the first origins, it was only really the back tracking and the overall length of the combat sequences that were bad. Let people gain a multitude of weird powers while in the fade.

I think all the problems can be solved and the fade offers a large and vivid design scope. Not including it because they haven't done it well previously is silly.

I loved the fade sequence in DAO and DAA and even the short one in DA2 was funny.

Color scheme was a bit bland but being able to see how the Warden HQ looks like was cool. The several gates and puzzles were fun. And I absolutely loved the shape shifting on DAO fade while the sahpe shifting for combat (Morrigan) was unusable. (Cast beaAAARGH! Dead before i finish casting bear form ? WTF ??? Either instant cast or make player have huge dodge / spell dodge while casting). I really like being a tiny mouse, Shale or a burning man ^^

This is a bit off topic, but it's always been bugging me. How did the sloth demon know how the Warden HQ looks? We know from the Calling and the companions nightmare that the dream is directly extracted from the victim's mind, but the Warden never went to Weisshaupt, so they wouldn't know.

I actually LOVED the Fade in DA:O. I palyed as a mage and part of why the game hooked me so early on was precisely of how ethereal and spooky the Fade looked, as it was a barren and kind of oppressive environment populated by strange creatures with strange stories to tell. I wasn't sure who was my friend and who was out to stab me in the back. It is a very unique and mood-setting area of DA:O and I would also LOVE for it to come back in a similar form in DA3.

DA2's Fade was much less interesting in its presentation, which drew me less into it, and was over so quick I don't retain much of it.

In conclusion, more Fade please. Preferably the DA:O flavor.
