Yeah, the only solution to aesthetic issues with the Fade is to delete it entirely.  After all, it would be totally implausible to change the look of an alternate plane of existence governed by demons and magic.  Noboby would ever buy that a literal dream world could ever look different.

I enjoyed the fade sequence in Origins but found that it gets really tedious in replays. I like puzzle levels but once you know how the puzzle works it's a bit less fun, especially with something as long as the fade sequence.

I think the obvious solution is to have puzzle levels (since they're fun,) but make them short or skippable.

I completely disagree. I was okay with the Fade in DAII, and found it boring in DAO, but I completely disagree they should stop trying. Theoretically, the place should be something amazing. I really doubt BioWare lacks the ability to make it amazing, but simply can't focus on it being so.

Saying we should never see it suggests a lack of imagination. I imagine it can be quite spectacular, and until then, I wouldn't suggest they stop trying.

This post is win. +1 for the sarcasm that most people wouldn't get.

Fade was bad not because of the art ( Dreams are always blurry/unreal so it's make sense) ... , but because of all the backtracking. After the first time though .. It became a walk in the park for me.

I just think they need to re-imagine the Fade/Beyond. It's suppose to be a world of dreams, but it's not very dreamlike. If it's you who's stuck in the dream then it should be an amalgamation of every landscape and scene that you have a connection with, like when you dream and you dream you are in your "house" in the dream the house is not 100%, things are missing, other parts that are familiar to you are there even if they are not a part of the real house.

I think Bioware just needs to let their imaginations go wild and go seriously surreal with the Fade/Beyond. It makes too much sense, it needs to be at least like a painting by Salvador Dali.

I'm SUPER directionally-challenged in games, so the Fade in DAO is hard for me. I like it better than the deep roads, but I actually have hand-drawn maps with every door (including where it leads), pathway and reward marked out in different colors. I made them after my second disastrous trip where I think I spent a half hour wandering around, clueless (it's bad, my boyfriend frequently leaves the room because he gets so annoyed). I could probably use the Wiki, but it works better when I know exactly what I'm looking at, because I drew it. Anyway...

That said, I like the fade for the "get into your head" bits. I don't think my Warden cared much about the blight being over and going to Weisshaupt, but the companions nightmares or their temptations in DA2 I thought was really cool to see. Anything to get to know them and their motivations a bit more. I think seeing someone's worst fears, or their dreams or regrets, is interesting. The fade is good for that.

I loved the fade. It's an entire plane of existence devoted to mess with your head. I would like the mindf*cks to be more subtle like the mage origin where ***spoilers*** the person that's guiding you through the fade is actualy a demon trying to possess you. I would love more intricate plots with demons making schemes more complex than your average "tie your LI to a railroad while twirling my moustache". There are five types of demons, each should make different kind of schemes:

Rage - simply attack you, the more powerfull ones will try to instigate wars (blood for the blood god, skulls for the skull throne kind of thing).
Sloth - will try to screw you over by tempting you to take the easy way. the masters of disguise thing should defeintely come into play, like while traveling through the fade you discover all your companions are actualy sloth demons.
Desire - tempt you ofcourse, not only in the obvious way, and not always with your knowledge.

etc...

I know I'm not the first one to say this, but I really enjoyed the fade. I feel it could have been slightly shorter (by my sixth Origins playthrough it felt a little lengthy), but otherwise I really liked it. I loved the idea of an entire reality where spirits were trying to reflect the real world but failing at it, sometimes in creepy ways. I assume we'll be seeing it again for DA3, and I'm looking forward to it.

I can see how someone would find it tedious and want to avoid it, but I guess I'm not one of those people.

I really like the Fade in DAO, actually. I was even kinda disappointed that the Fade sequence was so short in DA2.

Oh, and while we're talking about the Fade in DA2, I just want to mention how they wasted some potential right there - yeah, yeah, the whole entirety of DA2 was just wasted potential, but let me ramble about this one thing anyway. Radical idea: How about not making your companion just turn against you no matter what? You know, make it so that if you've built up a relationship to that character they won't betray you. Come on, even my LI turned against me. This is why the relationships and everything Hawke does in DA2 feel so unimportant and inconsequential. If you give us some nobody as a protagonist who doesn't really do anything world-changing throughout the game, at least allow us to have some noticeable impact on the people around him. Jesus christ.

That one turned out much longer than I intended.

Well here's someone for you. I liked the fade sequences in DAO, DAA, and DA2.

As someone who has mostly mage Wardens in DAO and always goes into the fade to save Connor, I've gone into the fade a lot. I like the concept of the fade, and in DAO specifically, I did like the departure from normal gameplay. I'm on PC and I do not use a mod to skip the fade. Having played it so many times, my actions are somewhat rote now, so like many aspects of DAO, it has become "something to get through" more than anything else, particularly since my completionist playstyle requires me to get all of the bonus stat points available.

I have the same feeling about the Deep Roads.

With DA2 specifically, although the environment was somewhat lacking -- although this can be excused away by saying that it was based on Feynriel's surroundings, especially one who was forced into the Circle -- I found it interesting because you get to see how demons manipulate people: your companions, particularly those who should know better (Merrill), or those who might think they are beyond such tricks or not have a complete understanding as a non-mage (Fenris); in addition to Feynriel, all have varying responses to being in the fade, and none save Justice are immune to the demons' charms.

The main reason I liked it was because it gives the player another perspective on mages. This actually is one reason I choose to take Fenris into the fade. I find it unfortunate that we can't have a more involved conversation about it, as you can with Merrill.

All of that aside, I would like for the fade to be presented differently in the next game. For the areas to be more dream-like, have less of a physical "ground" to stand on, or to be more of a delusionary departure from reality, especially for non-mages who enter the fade. I would also like to see more "friendly" spirits.

The Fade and the Deep Roads, I hate them both. Ideally, they wouldn't feature in the third game at all, but since we know they will, the less time we spend in them the better.

The problem with the Fade in DA:O is that it was too static, and required too much back-tracking. I'd hope that Bioware, now that they apparently have a more capable game engine to work with, will take a look at Skyrim's DLC''s, especially the Apocrypha in Dragonborn.

Personally, I love the fade. It's just... peculiar. And they're not getting rid of fade sequences. It's too important to the lore and the plot.

Apocrypha definitely made me think of the fade, and something like that would be the way to go

The first time I played through the Fade in Origins I loved it. Second time, a bit tedious. Third time there was no way I was going to do it all again and got that fantastic mod "Skip the Fade".
For DA 2 I can't even remember the sequence with the Fade at all...that kinda says a lot.
If they do have it in Inquisition I'd like to see it a bit more fleshed out. More to interact with, more puzzles, spirits you can talk to etc.

I don't know anyone who enjoyed being in the fade for more than 60 seconds. In Origins, you were forced to be there for a very long time. In DA2, it was relatively quick and painless, but was only cool if you brought Anders along. It still looked like ass, though.

One of the big reasons why I hate the fade is because it's an eye sore. Seriously, the graphics and art direction for this place (where supposedly the Maker dwells) is some of the worst I've ever seen in a game. How on earth did the artists at Bioware think that this looked good in any way shape or form? Image IPB

So, please, Bioware... no more. Just stop.

Well, now you know one. Me. I loved the fade in DA:O, and would love a similar fade experience. Plus I also liked the look of it.

So, please, Bioware... more. Continue.

agree on that really like the fade OP has no idea what he's talking about

If your system is lagging and you click rapidly enough, you can get them several times each. Which brings me to why my level 15 Arcane Warrior has a Cunning Score that rivals that of my level 24 Assassins.

(I had actually started to find the Fade boring, despite the Shapeshifting mechanic, until I discovered this trick.)

Didn't like the fade in both games.
But I like the idea of the fade , so hope it's gonna be improved.
