The Talon Mercenary is Awesome

His bow is supposed to be the primary source of damage yet it does nothing at its most basic level. With the upgrades its still meh. It requires to be in the line of fire for way too long and odds are you are going to die before you get your shot off. Not a reliable weapon.
So not really awesome to me.

Cain mine= great, forget it, don't talk about it. No one has an issue with Cain mine. You lied, this is not his signature ability.
Omnibow= His signature ability. You can not make a build built around it, since his base melee damage is so horrible, no amount of +% will make it better.
1. Melee=His arrows should have innate piercing and much higher heavy melee damage. Light melee staggers and is fine. His heavy melee damage sans power is the weakest in game.
2. Armor Piercing Arrow- This is one of the worst armor specialty powers in game. With full power and melee add on's, it does not burn down anything on gold. Too weak. If all 5 arrows his you just did a whopping 895 damage over 2second charge up and lost a grenade.
3. Cain mine can be buffed to 2700 damage. You will never reach these numbers with omnibow melee. This means without mod/gear/anything Cain mine does 3x or 1825 more damage than Armor piercing arrow.
4. Shields/health is way too low to support a omnibow build.
5. His arrows should be good for shield gate because its 5 individual hits. His arrows end up not being good for armor because its 5 individual 179 damage hits.

But the best thing would be if they made at least the arrows CD based.

Anywho, this dude is horrible due to how bad his powers are unless you just want to hold a fixed position, in which case Cains become incredible to the point of being nearly overpowered. If you play in FBW or Giant, and hold the room to the right of the ammo box near the ladder (the one with the computers and chairs in front of the LZ) in the case of White and the spawning point/EZ in the case of Giant, you can obtain at least 120k points per Platinum match and obliterate entire groups of enemies like they were insects.
But other than that? I wouldn't recommend him. The problem most of these new kits have is that they reinforce camping and farming mindsets and won't perform half as good when you have competent teammates that rush spawns. You can only place 3 Cains at a time, and you can't spam them reliably as a panic move. With spawns constantly shifting, you'll have a hard time trying to kill anything in maps like Goddess and Hydra with Drellguards, TGIs, GIs, QMEs, Furies, Cabals and such, because this guy has zero crowd control and survivability.
But if you camp on Platinum Giant, then sure, he's awesome and you might as well top the scoreboard by just using Cains.

Use a claymore or wraith if you want power. No need to sacrifice health and equipment to boost Melee damage.

The main probkem IMO is the bows ramping/focus animation-too long. Maybe remove the spread shot and instant focused shot with LM would do the trick.

naw, the spread shot is useful, very useful actually. They just need to two seperate melees. light = spread shot, heavy = focus shot

You have a point there but the animation time is crying out for buff

In fact the new SMG and Pistol Mod that increases damage on tech and biotic powers i would suggest is a must have to optimize this guy, combined with a melee mod on a pistol should you choose to use the bow along with the mines. The Eagle is a decent choice in my opinion maybe even the executioner in the right situation.
Disagree. Melee mods are multiplicative, power mods are additive. Would you rather 50% multiplicative melee damage or 30% additive power and 25% multiplicative?
Shotgun omni-blade seems like the way to go if you're using the bow at all.

Bronze - Deadly
Silver - Very good sniper
Gold - Only if the team works
Plat - Have not attempted
I've focued my build as an archer rather than mine layer with strong multipiers on his weapons. By using heavy melee to shot i've got 75+ kills in every game but i have found him weak on gold level.

I don't know about the Harrier being his ideal weapon, again 200% cooldown = quicker grenade regen, while im aware you could spend your time running around the map gathering more grenades or using your ammo reserves it stands to mention that with the right pick evo and grenade capacity you can have something like 15 grenades, that's already a lot of grenades an since you youself regen at 1 per 30 seconds at 200% cooldown you could easily self maintain yourself for a entire match assuming you don't misplace mines so that they don't work properly

I think you miss his point that if you use a lighter weapon your grenades recharge faster. Also, I have found the Talon's trap-setting, guerilla play style to be pretty fun. Its different - the only other character that plays like him is the volus engineer. I like this guy better because managing his grenade supply has been easier than managing the volus's constant cooldowns. That is of course overlooking the bugs like getting locked in the focus animation and lack of ammo packs (though I haven't missed them yet, just have to play smart).

Most people seem to agree that the mines are good.
It's the Omni-Bow that everyone is complaining about since it seems underwhelming. Most of the "Hey guys Talon is really good" threads all seem to universally suggest only speccing for the bow only to get +grenades for your mines and either sunder armour or CC depending on which arrow you take.
I think people wanted to be using the bow as their main source of damage.
Cionen, pls.... if his bow wasn't intended to be a major source of his damage, why is his entire power set structured around it? Fitness + 2 other bow "powers" and to a lesser extent the power damage in passives.... that means everything he has bar cain mines points towards using the bow as a source of damage...
He has 3 skill trees all of which revolve around the omni-failbow... and Bioware are saying it's not intended to be a major damage dealer? DAFUQ?
As for cain mines, you can spam them and they work quite well... but that doesn't make up for the fact that he clearly wasn't designed with weapons or powers other than the bow (or mine spam) in mind. The fact he has no real tech power, or no real weapon damage power and THREE skill trees dedicated to the stupid bow would imply that the bow is supposed to be a big part of his design.
Max the first 3 powers and spam Cain mines like a boss. The only way he can be played whilst still being effective... stopping to use the bow is pointless, when we have so many guns that do the bow's job 100x better.
I am prepared to declare this character an asbolutely monumental failure, as the only effective power he has is cain mine spam into a spawn point... which is really original, and overshadowed by the other munitions spamming classes.

First things first. If you are complaining about this character it is for 1 of 2 reasons. 1 is that you do not know what your doing and you should go a total different boring route and play a character that's built for even the slowest of players to do well with. I'll go ahead and give most the benefit of the doubt and say that doesn't include you. The 2nd issue is people wanting to play him the same as they play other characters. The Talon Mercenary is UNIQUE! He is not supposed to be played like other characters. I cannot believe how many people are crying that he isn't some godlike character. When the dlc first came out I liked this character but didnt play him that much as others that I was anxiously anticipating. Within the last 2 months I have been playing this character almost religiously in Gold and even Platinum matches and its actually quite crazy how much wreakage he can put out. Yes he has the defenses of a wet paper bag and yes locking on with his omni-bow takes practice but thats what makes him fun! Once you get the hang of him this character can be game changing. I have found no point of him boring yet. He has a ranged melee power that can hit clear across the map, how is that boring? He can hold down choke points and spawn points single handedly, how is that boring? You wanna talk about being original, that is exactly what he is, what other character has a heavy melee that can go across the map? On Gold I can kill ravages/brutes/pyros/scions/hunters/rocket troppers/bombers/maraders/captains and even phantoms if they dont bubble up within 2-3 shots of my AP arrows, 3 only being for scions/brutes really. I rarely even need to visit an ammo box with this guy and when I do its not actually for ammo but more for grenades. The weapon you use on him matters for only 1 reason, which is keeping cooldown low for grenade generation. With my build my grenade generation is about 15 seconds. I rarely use my weapon, for me its all omni-bow/mines. Here is what I run with.
Concussive Arrows: 0
Armor Piercing Arrows: Damage, Armor Damage, Arrow Count
Cain Trip Mines: Damage, Armor Damage, Radius
Elite Mercenary: Power, Power, Charge Generation,
Omni-bow Mastery: Bow Damage, Killing Spree, Bow Damage
Weapons: Light Shotgun - Disciple, Scimitar or Eviscerator w/ Omni-blade V & pierce or acc mod.
Pistol - Acolyte for shields/barriers
Light Assault Rifle - Avenger, Phaeston or Geth Pulse w/ Omni-blade V & pierce
Any combo light shotgun/AR w/ the acolyte will suffice.
Gear: Grenade Capacity V, Strength III, all you really need but of course a Cyclonic IV would help for when you have to poke your head out.
If your taking grenade capacity on ranks 4 and 6 of APA then your doing it wrong. It isn't needed! Grenade Capacity V and your quick generation of grenades, you should never run out. The only enemy I've had any sort of trouble with so far are praetorians but the same can be said for many characters. I almost feel OP sometimes with how much damage I can do with my bow. despite what most people are posting here, spamming cain mines everywhere isn't really neccessary. I use it more as perimiter defense at choke points and halls, for the most part, the majority of my damage is coming from omni-bow and APA. I've topped the scoreboards consistently with him on Gold and even in some platinum matches. Its all about finding what works for you. In no way shape or form is the talon terrible or useless, and his bow is flat out awesome!
