For general NPC's I think I'm very fond of that old priest in Denerim. I crack up everytime I talk with her. Also I have a crush on Ser Gilmore.

1: Loghain
2: Shale
3: Sten
4: Oghren
5: Morrigan
6: Leliana
7: Zevran
8: Dog
9: Wynne - Yes I do value a dog more then a pathetic old woman, who is so naive she can't realize how the world works, despite her age.
10: Alistair - I don't like a guy who is more pathetic then the worst drama queen I know in real life.
NPCs: From a list of five
1: Bhelen
2: Riordan
3: Anora
4: Sophia Dryden ( I don't mean the demon, but her actual self )
5: Sergeant ( the one who gives the signal at Ostagar to fire the arrows )

Flemeth saves Feraldin by saving me, i can not repay that kindness with a blade.
Lady Of the Forest who manages to remind the werewolves of thier own humanity, is willing to face oblivion to remove thier curse. Seems we all could use a reminder of our humanity once in awhile.
Eamon and the reason is that on my first play as a female city elf once you return with the ashes is probably the only nobleman except for Calain who is able to look past what you are for the betterment of Feraldin. He has no desire for power, he just wants to preserve the royal line as he recognizes this is the glue that binds Feraldin.
Anora while she might be a duplicitious **** really is a solid leader and while her motives might not be pure who's are? I kind of feel bad when in my plays i force her to marry Allister, no one deserves that but sometimes we do not get to choose what we do. The truest measure of our character is how we react to that situation, and while she does not like it, she realizes it is better for Feraldin in that it will foster unity amongst the nobles. For this she makes the list of favorite characters.
Leliana is on this list because of all the characters she has recognized her need for redemption and is selfless about it. She has signed on for what should be a suicide mission with no reservation, no hesitation, and still manages to be up beat about it. If i may borrow a quote (pulp fiction) Leliana could deliver the following line and it be applicable "you are the weak Ringo, and i am the tyranny of evil men, but i am trying to be the shepard".
Dagna the dwarf girl who wants to be a mage even though she knows it will be impossible for her to learn to cast spells, the desire so strong to give up cast and clan for that knowledge is an worthy goal. Plus she is so "perky" her enthusiasm for her daunting task ahead of her is infectious.

Companions: Shale (funny); Alistair (sweet & loving); Morrigan (forthright & frank)
NPCs: Goren (loyal & likeable); Lady of the Forest (stunning, and I don't just mean her looks); Teaghan (clever, cute, adorable, strong); Ser Bryant (he's defending Lothering no matter what happens, he won't abandon the people there, and he's gorgeous too, what's not to like?); Dagna (intelligent, enthusiastic, and won't give up her dream)

Least favourites would be: Morrigan, Anora, Isolde and Ser Cauthrien. Its a shame you couldn't kill the first two.

Alistair was another character I thought I wouldn't like. Too many cheesy one-liners can ruin atmosphere in a movie or game, but the writers and voice actor did a great job. His character makes it into most of my parties.
Dog's voice actor is my favorite! Just kidding...
Shale is kind of like Alistair in that I had reservations at first, hearing the character concept. But her story is quite good, and suprising.
Oghren is cool, but a bit of a stereotype. A guilty pleasure character...I mean even though a drunken dwarf berserker has been done a hundred times in stories or games, Oghren is still cool. It's a testament to the voice actor and writers.
Morrigan is one of the most interesting characters I've seen in a game, or in many stories in awhile. Very well written and very well voice acted, she's excellent.
Zevran, I wasn't crazy about the character concept from all the forum hype about him. He's okay, and has a place now and then in my PC parties, but some of his dialogue is rediculous. Some of it is rather good too so it balances out. I was pleasantly suprised that he wasn't as annoying as I feared he might be.
Sten is a very solid character, and ended up being one of my favorite characters rather quickly. It really makes me hope sequels to DA will lead the gamers into the Qunari held lands. Party banter between Sten and Morrigan or Sten and Leliana is priceless!
Wynne has good voice acting, she's kind of cool but kind of 'expected' to me. Nothing really suprised me about her story or her personality.
Daveth was an interesting character too, I wished he had survived longer into the story than he did, the same with Duncan.
I can't decide who is my favorite character, the writers and actors did too damn good a job. I'm making myself stop writing now before I go on further.

Sten because he's a no-nonsense guy. He does have a personality and is one of the most interesting characters in the game, for those of us who take the time to get to know him. That...and he is a big softie!

Has anyone ever repeatedly clicked Oghren when he's pissed drunk in camp and only giggles and falls to the ground to start the giggle again and again without waiting till the animation's finished? I had to laugh so much I couldn't stop for quite a while...
Same here, I think this was the funniest moment in my whole game ! That and when he thinks about Branka and her lover...
My fave character is Alistair with Oghren a close second.

I agree with you, except for the belief system part. I would go for her even if she sided with the Archdemon.Kalfear wrote...
Gotta go with Lelianna
Smart, witty, polite, a lady, good looking and killer red hair
As someone else said above, spiritual. Gotta admit as society fails more and more to no repercussion liberalism, her beleif system was a positive and enduring feature.
Whats there not to like?

Although I really liked all the party members. I didn't like Mori to begin with, but just being civil to her and treating her with the same respect/gift giving as all the other characters (because it's the right thing to do) I ended up liking her more than what I thought I would, and really believed her when she was speaking about friendship. It was nice.

The characters I dislike: Cammen. Cammen. Cammen. Cailan. Alistair.

I don't like Wynne as she rats out the PC if they're a blood mage as soon as she's done using them to save the tower (gogo Irving telling her it's Gray Warden magic and to mind her own business)

Least favorite: Leliana, Wynne, and Sten. Not that I dislike them, they have their moments and likeable traits. Just not my favorites.
Neutral: Loghain and Morrigan. They both have a mixture of love/hate characteristics that always brings them back to "I'm not sure".
NPC Favorites: Teagan (oooohhh, yes, need not explain), Cullen, Jowan, Caroll the Cookie munching templar, Ser Gilmore, Lady of the Forest, Lenyla, Fergus, Flemeth, The old reverend mother outside the Denerim Chantry, Ignacio, Leske, Gorim, Bhelen, Cauthrien, Daveth, Gregoir, and the kitten army of doom.
Least favorites: Irving, Isolde, Howe, Chantry staff, Genitivi, most of the Dalish, Keli the self hating mage, that spoiled princess noble in the Denerim market, Vaughn.

I think the true joy of this game, and what will make it a lasting classic, is that it is an ensemble piece. Like Firefly, for example, I could not choose my favourite because I really love them all.

I was really attached to all characters also and found myself trying to please a lot of people. I agree that this game will be a classic for the way it bonds you with the characters.

I like Alistair, Loghain and Anora too, but more as characters than as people.
Least favourite would probably be Arl Howe and Vaughn - they're just so flat and boring. The latter always seemed on the verge of twirling his moustache.
