It's been a million years since I've played BG, but since I had to reinstall BG2, I figured I'd give BGT a try.  My question is this: In BGT is charisma important for the BG portion?  I seem to remember that in vanilla BG it was important for the PC to have high charisma.

Secondary question: With BGT installed I can start a MP game in SOA?  If so how?  I can definitely start one in BG, but I can't find a path to do so in SOA.

Haven't got BGT so cannot answer second question. Regarding charisma, only one person in the party, the party leader, (The character whose picture as the top one at the right hand side) needs high charisma. Therefore if your character has low charisma, it is best to make Imoen or Ajantis party leader for a good group. When buying items the price goes up if the party leader's charisma is low. Rewards for doing quests also depend on charisma. e.g. if your charisma is less than 18, you miss out on a knife worth 150gp in Candlekeep. If less than 18, you miss out on a gift of anti-poison poisons elsewhere.

If you have BG1 NPC project installed if your charisma is low, you get a ring given to you which gives charisma of 18. Because I have that mod installed, I usually opt for charisma as low as possible. I miss out on that knife at Candlekeep, as you have to travel towards Nashkel before you get it, but that is a minor inconvenience whereas having extra points in Str, Dex Con, Wis, and Int can be a big plus. Hope that helps

2) doesn't look like it.

http://readme.spellh...t/BGTReadme.htm

Can I still play Shadows of Amn and/or Throne of Bhaal with BGT-WeiDU installed?

Certainly.

For Shadows of Amn, click on the Baldur’s Gate button in the main menu, and then Single Player. You will notice that the Tutorial button has been replaced by a button labelled ‘New BG2 Game’. Click on this button, and click on the New BG2 Game button on the dialog box to go to the character generation screen, where you will create a character that will have the appropriate amount of experience for Baldur's Gate II, or import an existing character. When finished, you will start in Irenicus’ Dungeon.

The method to start a Throne of Bhaal game has not changed.

You can start a single player game in SoA as set out above. Save it, quit the game and move the save game into the mpsave folder. Then start a MP game and load that saved game (adding in whatever characters you want on the starting screen).

Thanks Potty. That's all I could find as well.

<edit> Thanks Grondo.  That should have been obvious, but I didn't think of it.

I had a quick test and a few quirks you need to be aware of. The BG1 character creation will generate a level 1 character so all your characters will be at this point unless you exported them from somewhere else.

When starting a new single player game with a level 1 character BGT insists you level up in the cage (or click the level up and cancel twice) before Irenicus turns up.

When adding a second (identical level 1) character before Irenicus arrived I noticed;
- The protaganist had 8hp and could level up, xp being set to 89,000.
- The buddy had 16hp and couldn't level up, xp being set to 1.

Both were cleric with constitution of 9 so the protaganist looks reaonable and the buddy looks broken. You can either ignore if you choose, or correct it: Buddies would need HP's editing down and XP increased, both possible in ShadowKeeper. You can then level up in-game to choose the right proficiencies and gain the correct attributes to match the new level (ie spell slots, innate abilities, level based boons/resistances).

The same happens if you save a single player session after Imoen frees you and transfer/import after that.

& charisma works differently in multiplayer if 2 or more people are playing. If I control character 2 then that charisma is used in a store (might be the same if I control 2 characters but have character 2 selected but I can't remember).

& I think a few dialogue options use the charisma of whoever is being talked to while others use the party leader. Again, can't remember details.

Thank you. That was most kind.

Yes, I've done this before. It threw me off the first time.  Have you tried it with a mage?  Are you left with a mostly empty spell book?

One good thing about this is it allows you to use Shadowkeeper to essentially Level1NPC yourself for dual class characters (if you want to dual before 89,000 xp).

Right. Thanks again.

I haven't tried it with a mage buddy but I expect the spellbook is pretty bare if they're not the protaganist.

A protaganist gets dialogue that I can't remember (because I'd rarely if ever use a mage in SoA without going through BG1). First one suggests (or forces) you set the game level to novice or easy. Next one tells you to level up. Then a series of dialogue options to select spells (similar to summoning all the NPC's in ToB).

I have screenshots if anyone is interested but assume most people will have been through this and have better memories than me.

Presumably you could create a MP party by starting a series of single player BG2 games and exporting the characters from those before re-importing them when you start your proper game. That should make sure all of them are properly levelled up and have the normal selection of spells.

Yes, I wrote that yesterday then over-wrote my post (sitting through the starting movie twice more finally drove me round the bend). You have to start each single player, save them, move them to multiplayer, load and export character. Or SK each save game to export characters?

hmm, what's wrong with Imoen, Jaheira and Minsc...

You don't need to save each single player game or move to MP. You can export from the record screen in SP - exported characters are then available to import into either SP or MP. I agree though that sitting through the movie 6 times would be a bit much. I think the only characters you really need to do this with are arcane casters. Others can be just imported as 1st level characters and levelled up using Clua console or SK without any problems.

I agree. I was originally trying to do it because I wanted to run a duo of something like F/C and M/T. After my brief foray in BG last week, I didn't think I'd be able to get them through to SOA.

That duo is certainly doable, but lack of experience could certainly be a problem.
