As a person that tries to correct peoples view on it.... Even I say I hate the thing....I hates it's programmers even more.

But it is just a machine doing what it's programed to do.

I guess Walters and Hudson and some or most of the people at Bioware liked it... they keep defending the ending and refuse to remove it.  I just have yet to see anyone who actually loved the character.

I like the idea, and i actually called the Citadel being a reaper before me2 even came out

I understand the Catalyst, and regard him as a horrifying example of Lawfull neutral, i don't View him as this ultimate evil out to get you like some people misconstrue him

HE didn't really do any for me to like him as a character how ever.

I don't think they even meant for it to be liked. It's just a voice box for the reapers. That's the only reason it's there.

I don't know why he is so hated. He's just an AI. And at least he gave us some answers.

To  blame the Catalyst  For its Crimes would be like trying to blame a microwave for burning your food when you put it in to long

You speak about the Catalyst in the title but then you talk about disliking what the Catalyst brings to the story in the thread, so could you be more specific?

true, but not one this important (lead antagonist) 2 minutes before the end of a 5 year journey for people who have played all 3 games.  the catalyst's introduction without any foreshadowing of it is just odd and out of place.

I understand what they were going for, and I'm not against a central Reaper intelligence, and I also think conventional victory would cheapen the ending, but the execution is very poor. Besides the myriads of problems discussed ad nauseum, the main thing is that it's a kid. People hate kid's in stuff like this so it's immediately unlikeable. Speaking directly to a reaper, or someone from Shepard's past who died would go over better I bet.

I'd Argue that tha's kinda the point, the catalyst created his system then let it play out, the reapers don't even know about it.

The Catalyst is more akin to a kid watching an ant farm then to the kid with the magnifying glass
