 Hello there,

I been looking at both Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2.

I was thinking of buying both games, specialy now they are so cheap 20 euro for the ultimate edition for DA Origins.

and around 15 euro for DA2.

I have read that DA Origins is wel worth the money and that its a very good game, but have also read that DA2 was bad here and there? Is this true or was the game underrated by most people?

I would like some input on wether or not i should only buy DA Origins or DA Origins + DA2.

I hope i can get some good feedback that wil convince me into buying either 1 or both games.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

DA2 changed gameplay a lot compared to Origins and the changes made annoyed many players. I'd say both are well-worth playing for any RP fan, especially considering the price.

If you want to play it safe, get DAO first and if you like the DA universe, get DA2 as well. Or you could get the DA2 demo (haven't checked whether it is still available).

I see, thank you for the information, i think i will be buying both games. I have this 20 euro discount voucher from simcity 2013.

In total you need to pay € 34,98 for both games, but only  € 14,98 using that voucher. Unless some1 can suggest using the voucher for a other game thats worth just as much to be bought with a voucher i would like that hear that aswell. Voucher can only be used one time and only before 31th march.

Playing the demo for 2 is good advice. The frenetic pace of combat annoyed some - but others liked it. That one'll be down to personal taste.

Generally DA2 is, I think, considered a sub-standard game. It is certainly heavily flawed. The re-use of maps was something criminal for a AAA game. Also, enemies come in waves and will literally drop out of thin air. The ME-style dialogue wheel was an issue for many. And there is a noticable disconnect between gameplay and story lore. The plot is also highly questionable in places - though never quite veers into ME3-ending-WTF territory. In general the game has good ideas, themes and characters but was very rushed. It needed a good 6 more months in development. If immersion in your RPG world is most important to you then DA2 will probably annoy you.

On the other hand, the characters are well written, many story threads are good, the combat (if it's your taste) is exciting and hey, it's more Dragon Age.

When I was playing DA:O I told a friend to "Get it and get it right now!" When I was playnig DA2 I told him to "get round to it but don't rush if there are other games you want to play first". That's my general advice of the games.

DAO is well worth the pay in every regard. Though some of the DLC are mediocre as they don't really bring much new, but if you're getting the UE then you have them either way. The Awakening expansion however is a great addition to the game.

DAII has its quirks and stuff, foremostly the rather unimaginative re-use of locations over and over again (which isn't as bad as it sounds though, as those re-used locations still look quite nice, just not much diversity to look at) and a vastly more fast paced combat gameplay. ALso the set character design choice isn't something for everyone, but in its own right the game is decent enough. Not really what fans from Origins expected, but still not a bad game. The DLC are exceptional though, real good stuff with them.

both games are good, both have there faults

buy both an decide for yourself

i could draw a comparison akin to mass effect 1 then going to mass effect 2 an encountering the differences there, all i will say though is the biggest difference for me is combat, an for me DA2 does combat a hell of alot better than DAO

Both are worth buying, but DA:O is the better game of the two.

DA2 was rushed in production, and it shows; the most commonly heard complaint about it is the recycling of environments. Feels like you're running through the same places again, and again, and again, even when it's supposed to be a new cavern, or building.

But with all it's flaws, DA2 still isn't a bad game, and is well worth getting. The companions tend to be well written, and there's some great party banter too.

The combat is more fast paced than in DA:O, and some say, somewhat over-the top. (Like enemies exploding to dagger strikes)

DA:O has a more "gritty" feel, and it has a storyline that is more traditional than DA2's storyline. DA:O has a story that'll draw you in from the start, and keep you interested till the end. DA2 doesn't seem to give you a clear over-arching purpose at any point, and thus it feels a bit like you are doing sidequests all the time, with nothing that you can really tell (untill after-the-fact) that distinguishes a storyline quest from a sidequest.

There is a story there, but you can't really see it until you've played through it, and look back on what's happened.

It is unconventional for sure. I'd say that DA:O is a great game, and DA2 is a good one.

That's exactly how I feel.  DA2 is a good game and DAO is a great game.

My advice -- if you're going to be playing DAO on a PC, and especially if you are going to be playing an English-language version -- there are a couple of mods you should use.

Both games are very buggy, but DAO has bug fixes available via mod. At a bare minimum, you should use Morrigan Restoration Pack Fix Pack and ZDF Dialog Fix (disclosure -- I wrote ZDF). While they don't fix every bug, they fix a few hundred of them and make the companion dialogs work properly.

They are both fun games, but DAO is longer with more interaction with the companions.  DA2 has a voiced protagonist, which some people consider positive, some consider negative.  The DAO story itself is more standard fantasy fare, which I preferred.

You can't go wrong: both games have many virtues (but different enough as you might see). Especially at today's prices...

Ha, yes I am.  But my offer in the skyrim thread still stands -- let me know if what you want there is something simple and I can help you do it, or do it myself.  If it's more complex, well, no promises ;)  Though the next patch will make any mod affecting perks obsolete so, yeh.

But to stay on topic, DAO is an amazing game despite the bugs, and DA2 has potential, but has some glaring issues that really take away from what could have been amazing despite its bugs.
