DLC's should be free

I think if the DLC's were free, it would really show commitment and dedication of Bioware to the community and encourage more people to buy this game. I think they could take a page out of Blizzard's book (free battle.net) on how to treat the fans of their game.

I think it's a huge joke for Bioware to charge outrageous amounts of money for so little content. All of them can be finished in less than an hour and their main purpose is not to advance the story in a meaningful way, but to give player extra items. I can admit that Shale was moderately interesting - but then again they're planning on charging $15 for it, which is ridiculous. Don't get me started on RtO - they are basically recycling old stuff and charging for it. Oh wow, it has some new items. How amazing.

Okay, you know Bioware is being really nice by making DLCs right? Because they could do what everybody else does, which is release the game and release bug fixing patches and forget about everything else.
Why do we always want MOAR and MOAR ? >:-[ You don't really need to buy them, you know. Just play the vanilla game and have fun.

See that's what I am talking about. You're being a submissive fanboi, if you really belive what you just written. You're actually praising Bio for releasing game without bugs? Really? It's something that should have been done in the first place - and they let gamebreaking dex bug to go live after years of development. And sycophants like you still praise them. Sad.

To get on topic however, Blizzard gets money from your subscription fees, from the add-on expansion packs, and from tools who buy server changes. Bioware doesn't charge you to play your game, they don't charge you for even a toolset to build new weapons and armor. However in order to produce more content they have to make more money from somewhere, don't they? Hmm yes they do. Free content like you propose isn't feasible, nor is it intelligent business practice.

Nice job derailing the topic to WoW. When I meant "free content" - I was talking about battle.net, Diablo 2 patches (new content for absolutely zero cost - they're going to release a new one soon, still supporting fans of a 10year old game) and Warcraft 3 patches (once again, new heroes for free).
But Bioware is charging us $5-15 for half an hour of content? No. I am not trolling, I am 100% serious. DLC's should be free. It's an outrage and an insult to be expected to pay for something you could cook up in toolset in 20 minutes.

@op: you're a troll, simply put, and clueless at it.
3.49 Euros (the price of RTO) is the price of 4 cups of coffee at an average bar. I'd say that the value of 1.5 hours of gameplay (multiplied by this game's awesome replayability value) is much higher than that of four cups of coffee.
So much for your "outrageous" prices. As I said, you're clueless, and cheap. It's not doctor's order to have or play the DLC's. It's not doctor's orders to play the game at all. If you don't like the price, instead of playing "outrageously priced" games, get a life and a job, maybe then the prices won't seem that "outrageous" anymore.

You don't want DLC? Don't buy it, simple as that. You wanna make things in the tool-set, do that. Don't just create a thread because you hate DLC, it's moronic, and fail. Also I'd like to point out that DLC isn't just for PC users. As PC users have access to a tool-set and console people don't. It would be highly ineffective for them to remove console players from content support.
You're not going to change my opinion on this matter, and I probably won't change yours. Honestly I could care a less, it's just that you need to realize we aren't in the 2D crappy technological world of 10 years ago. We're moving up the ladder in tech and as such prices have increased. Don't like it? Hang back in the past with your "free content" and leave the future gaming modules to people who aren't going to whine at a $5 price tag.

The content sadly is extremely quick for the price. I can get a movie ticket, sometimes 2 and a half hours of entertainment, for $9. $7 at a discount. What we have here is dlc that last anywhere between 20 minutes and an hour, depending on how much dialogue you sit through. And the charge is at least $5. Therefore you really are not getting what you pay for.
I think my biggest problems with the dlcs thus far, other then shale, is that they seem to just be means to throw in new powerful items or abilities. First off I'm not keen on having super powerful game breaking items or abilities. So far, neither seemed to be the case in Warden's Keep. But the abilities are certainly quite useful on my mage, and i always feel compelled to deck someone out in warden armor for the stats.
I have a feeling Rto is going to be the same bag of tricks with cailan's armor and sword. Personally I think it is a bit of a problem for the main draw for the dlc to just be these powerful items. It seems to be a way to cover up weak or rushed story.
On another point, someone brought up dlc should not be used to put something that should have already been in the game in. I agree completely. Party Storage from warden's keep should have been in beforehand. But the keep itself was not a necessity to the story. RtO is a different story in my book. I believe it should have been included in the game as it seems illogical that our party would not return to attempt to search for specific things.
Either way, dlc is worked on by devs and is additional content. Thus it should not be free. But I believe there is legitimate discussion on the cost compared to entertainment value. Either way, as long as enough of us keep getting suckered in, it won't change. And I find myself continually suckered in.
