After playing hundreds and hundreds of hours of the Mass Effect franchise, I'm finally going to try out the Dragon Age series.  I was also an addict of Skyrim for a while, though for some reason, I completely lost interest in Skyrim after a certain point. I hope I'm not turned off by medievalesque fantasy in general and that I find something addicting about Dragon Age.

I need a new addiction!

Since you are an 'addictress', I'm quite sure Dragon Age will get addicted to you; it won't let you go.

About two hours in. Interesting - it reminds me of an MMORPG where you have to select your powers on the bottom. Huh!

I'm on PC.

And I just discovered that it has microtransactions. *sigh* Well... do I really have to go to Soldier's Peak?

Yes, that bit of in-game advertising is very irritating.

But you don't have to go. The Warden's Keep DLC is totally optional. It comes with some nice gear and a much-needed storage chest, but if you're on the PC, you can download a mod to give you one of those.

I would recommend doing The Stone Prisoner DLC, which should be free if you bought your copy used. Shale is one of the best Bioware character's around - certainly one of their best DLC ones.

Okay thanks everyone.

My game keeps crashing now as I'm walking about the Denerim Market District. Going to install Patch 1.05

Might be because I installed all these mods before starting my play. But I can't turn back now. Can't undo all the mods. :crying:

What origin did you end up choosing? Do you have a particular type of personality for your PC? What romance did you decide to explore? What DLC have you chosen to do/try (if any)? I am with @Fast Jimmy on this one, the Stone Prisoner is great. I absolutely ADORE Shale (she is just too funny). OH! And what class did you choose?

Dragon Age: Origins is my favorite Bioware game, so have fun with that! Dragon Age 2, not so much for me but maybe you'll like it.

The only thing DA:O has over Mass Effect is characters. And I'm being generous here.

Yes you can, go to gamefolder/Dragon Age\\bin_ship and open DAO modmanager.exe
and then just check/uncheck the mods you want.

Btw this game is buggy, so get use to save often, mods or not

Okay so this won't corrupt save files past Ostagar?

Sounds safer than deleting in the override folder

It depends on what mods you have installed.

Some can be unchecked with DAO modmanager...but some are just simply files put into your override folder.

Did you get them from DA Nexus?

If so...which mods do you have installed?

One of us, one of us. Gooble gobble, gooble gobble!

Seriously, you will fricken LOVE the game is character design and high fantasy settings are something for you.

Also, was going to point you to Dragon Age Nexus, but I see you already got some mods, so I think that hint is superflous.

But in all earnest, there's one thing I absolutely have to say:
Even if you don't enjoy the game in the end, you have, simply HAVE to play both Dwarven Origins, they are imho the best written character defining intros to any PC controlled character EVAR. Screw human noble, screw mage. Dwarves have the best (if only for that music *swooooon*).

Agree with the character design being the highlight of this game, love it.

On the mod box checking, some saves will not be available if you un-check, while others stay.
If they disappeared, just check the box again if you want to continue play that build.

Personally, i think the game becomes tedious to play so i'm happy making a new character and do what i like most, develop the character.

And for me, there is only one build that i like: Arcane Warrior,
it can not die, its easy to play with, it's the paladin build in this game

Yeah all from Dragon Age Nexus.

And from all the readmes I read, they said to just drop the files into the Override folder.

There a couple of concerns:

(1) In one of the extractions, Windows said the files were corrupted. I was like uh oh, well, let's see what happens.  It was during the extraction of a mod that had all these files in it:

Posted Image

I am not sure what .dds files exactly are.

What I do know is that the Override folder was originally completely empty when I first installed the game so if I wanted to, I could just delete all the files in Override, granted that I also delete the save files.

(2) In the popular Improved Atmospheres mod, there are subfolders for DLCs which I do not have yet. The ReadMe says I can safely delete these subfolders if I don't have those DLCs, but I'm not sure if I HAVE to, or if the existence of subfolders would be safe to keep even if I don't have those DLCs.

The first boss fight was astoundingly difficult for me.... on even just normal settings. Dayum! It was the Ogre at the top of the Ostagar tower. The mage kept dying. Finally I figured out you have to make sure all your squad mates stay separate and far away from one another, distract the ogre and run away/flank when the ogre gets too close.
