That and Biowares tendancy to kill off characters you are related to as well as those you grow attached to as well (see ME3) and usually in cutscenes where you have zero control of what happens such as both of your siblings in da2 if you take the other one down to the Deep Roads w/out Anders.

I think having the main character have a child could raise a few interesting situations. All of which have been done over and over again. In the DA series the main protagonist always bears the brunt of changing the environment around them. A kid would be a liability, one which I would not want to see taken advantage of in any way shape or form.

Now, a companion... that could be really interesting and fun. Just imagine if Isabela had a secret love child out there who she left with the father after she had it. That could provide interesting motivation for the character, especially if a mission focused on interacting with the kid in some way. And it would be even better if they had no idea who their other parent was.

Kids mess things up. And they get you killed. Definitely no to the MC, but the companion could be an interesting possibility.
