I need a new headset for my xbox really bad. I want to buy something that is affordable. I don't play games like COD so I don't need a SUPER sensitive audio but I would like some really nice audio and mic. I have this coupon for best buy to get $40 off Turtle Beach DX12, but even after that coupon I would be spending 80 bucks which is a lot. I wonder if it would be better for me to get the $60 x12 or if surround sound is worth the 20 bucks?

Do you know of anything cheaper that works really well? All I'm looking for is a fairly decent mic with great sound. I think I'm more picky about the sound. Suggestions are very appreciated. :)

also being able to use them as earphones is a plus, (not necessary but a major plus)

I got these ones because Xbox mics kept dying on me. They work pretty well and give a bit of surround sound in Halo 4, though not full 5.1 or 7.1. You can pinpoint which direction shots are coming from though. Fairly cheap with a pretty good mic.

We spent a nice chunk of change on a Turtle Beach headset for XBox, and regret it. In fact, if you want it, I'd be happy to mail this ridiculously overpriced head vice straight to you.

You might want to stock up on your favorite pain-killer in preparation. Posted Image

My husband finally just figured out a way to make it tolerable, by putting the headphones over the top of the back of the chair, and turning up the volume so he could hear it. It's just not worth the (literal) headache otherwise.

As for  a recommendation, I honestly haven't had much luck past the original headset that came with our old school (white) XBox. The new headsets that ship with xboxes (black) are total crap, and have terrible connections. I have a friend that went with a bluetooth one, and said he really likes it. Of course, I can't seem to find that model available anywhere now. Meh.

I have the wireless Turtle Beach set with the laser optic cord and harness for the Xbox360; it's not bad but pisses through batteries, I bought two sets of AAA energizer rechargeable batteries for it so I could swap them out while playing but when you’re in the middle of an online match and the damn batteries quit it’s a pain in the ass to swap them out. There is no warning either,  like you get with the Xbox360 controller via the battery life indicator in your menu... one minute there is sound the next minute silence.  After a year with the rechargeable batteries their also beginning to not hold a charge so I will need to replace the four AAA rechargebles. I’ll definitely never play another game without them however I wish I could find a set with a better battery setup.

^happy_daiz does yours have the optic cable? I find if you replace the stock cord with a better insulated one all your troubles may go away… or just try to keep the stock cord away from the power cord, it helps.

^ I don't think we have an optic cable, but when I do use a headset, I use our original Xbox one (beige). It actually still works pretty well. I'll probably keep using that until it dies, then I'll try an optic cable. Thanks for the advice!

I'd recommend a turtle beach headset, wired. Don't get anything that requires batteries or to be charged it's a pain in the ass.

And stay away from Astros.
