So Alistair said if it came down to it he would agree to marry Anora. Then the landsmeet comes along and he says he won't do it. What?! lol Why did this happen?

There's a number of factors: Did Logain live? Is Alistair hardened? Did you 'win' the landsmeet? Is Alistair your female wardens LI?

If you have hardened Alistair and do not want him to rule, do not let him duel or kill Loghain otherwise the Warden will not get to decide and Alistair will automatically be made king.
You get to support Anora or Alistair. But if you must make arrangements at the estate prior to the landsmeet, if you want them to rule jointly.

If you want Alistair to rule jointly with Anora, you should not let Alistair execute Loghain after the duel (which could also happen if you say Loghain must die, but then say you wont do it). If Loghain is executed by Alistair, Anora will refuse to rule jointly with him and you must choose between her and Alistair.

This is from memory! I hope I remember rightly...Posted Image

Logain lived. Alistair is hardened. I won the landsmeet. My warden is a male dwarf commoner. I dueled Logain. When he threw a fit I chose the "I thought you two were going to marry" option and he said no at that point even though he said he would agree before the landsmeet. I have coercion maxed.

I was trying to marry Alistair to Anora and take Loghain with me. I know it's possible, but he wouldn't agree this time. I thought it was strange because he said he would agree if it came to that when I arranged it beforehand but when it came up at the landsmeet he shut it down. Let me also add the fact that I arranged it with them directly before going to the landsmeet. So there were no level ups in between.

Hmm, if Alistair was hardened, then he shouldn't have refused. Pardon my incredulity, but are you sure you chose the correct dialogue options in the 'Alistair's Family' quest? If you did, then it's probably some bug.

Did Anora backstab you at the landsmeet? That causes alistair to refuse.

This is correct, but you also need to reinforce this decision to harden Alistair.

Not only choose the 'everyone is out for themselves' reponse after Alistair meets his sister, but also to have a conversation with him afterwards in-camp (I think it still counts in Eamon's estate, but not sure) which begins with him saying "I've been thinking about what you said..." Here you must reinforce the idea of taking a more selfish view.

Only then will Alistair be hardened, and should then agree to marry Anora if you spare Loghain.

I am sure I hardened him correctly and Anora sided with me at the landsmeet. I guess it must have bugged or something. I'm playing it on the PS3 by the way.

Any luck reloading an earlier save and doing the landsmeet again?

Thinking about it, I'm not sure if I got the follow up conversation this time through or not. However, I reloaded from an earlier save and he has nothing to say to me at over 80 affection. So that must mean I already had it, right? I know how the hardening conversation goes though, and if I did get it I would have answered it correctly because the plan was to harden him from the beginning this playthrough.

You must have clicked on Alistair in camp at least once after his companion quest, haven't you? So, I'd guess most probably you must have had that follow up conversation.

That's what I thought, but I don't get why he won't marry Anora then. :(

I have no clue whatsoever, sorry about that. All I can say is try doing the landsmeet once more and see if this happens again.

Perhaps Alistair is just staying with you until the Blight is ended. Have you played through to the end?

Not yet, I am trying to recruit Loghain and keep Alistair on the thrown with Anora. I have been avoiding finishing it up in case someone swoops in here and saves my day. But alas, I fear that I will have to lose Alistair to wandering drunkeness. I think my game is glitched and it's not going to give me the hardening follow-up conversation. It was done so long ago that I don't have a save before the Goldana visit and it would be over half the game ago anyway. :?

So you think the immediate post-goldana conversation failed, rather than the camp conversation?

I don't know what happened. I know I chose everyone is out for themselves, but I don't think I remember getting the follow up this play through. I usually get it right away after the first conversation, but I remember it not happening this time and thinking that I just didn't have enough friendship level with him at the time. With a female it's so easy to max, with a male not so much. lol. I talk to him now and he has nothing to say to me, not even the talk about the wardens choice. I think he's just bugged out this game. :(

Its a shame; wish I could help. It does seem bugged, very strange. Have you noticed anything else? Freezing or stuttering? Low fps?

Nope, that's the only issue I've seen this play through. I really wanted to see how things would pan out in Awakenings with both Ali and Logh there. Oh well, I guess I'll have to try again another time.

I need clarification if You could:

Did You speak about marriage (Alistair and Anora) like this: Eamon->Anora agrees if Alistair agrees -> Alistair agrees and then you report this to Anora.

In Landsmeet: Warden defeats Loghain, Riordan intervenes, you spare Loghain, Alistair gets seriously pissed and says he will become king just to see justice done, Anora intervenes and then you get dialogue option something like "I thought you were supposed to marry". Alistair relents but says that he won't be a Warden with Loghain -> Loghain lives and 2xA rule Ferelden jointly.

All went as you posted except when Alistair disagreed to marry at the Landsmeet. I did all the pretalks with Alistair saying he would marry her if it came to that and I told her he agreed to her terms. I get to the Landsmeet and fight Loghain, choose to let him do the joining, and Alistair pitches his fit. I said I thought they were going to be married and he said he won't do it and left.

OMG I fixed it! :D I took Alistair out of the estate alone and talked him into marrying her and then immediately afterwards I was able to get the hardening part 2 conversation! I am soooooo happy I don't have to play another full game just for that outcome! :wizard:
