I'm thinking about buying the following:
http://www.gog.com/g...ghts_2_complete

I'm curious how the expansions work. If I install them, are all the races/classes available in all campaigns I start?
Are the expansions integrated into the main campaign, or are they stand alone adventures? I think MotB just continues the campaign from the core game, but I'm not sure about the others.

Also, from what I read about patching, am I correct in assuming I should install the core game, then the expansions, then update to the latest version?

TIA!

Yes.
Standalone.
This will be already patched to last version.

MotB continues the campaign by importing your character from the original campaign. You can export at any time, or it's done at the end of the campaign for you.  You can keep a library of different characters (or the same character at different levels) to use to import into any module, based on what the recommended level is.

SoZ is a standalone that starts with characters at low level. So if you do import your OC or MotB character into it he/she will be massively overpowered.

Unless you export your character at different levels as I was saying, in which case you would want to import one from the OC that is an appropriate level for the campaign.

Also, SoZ is meant for a party of 4 player-created characters (you can recruit 2 henchmen on top), unlike the OC and MotB, where you only can create the main one (unless you use mods).
