First off, hello. I'm new to the forums here, just finished my first ever playthrough of ME1, and sweet Jebus I didn't realize how much I was missing out on until now. Best/most compelling soundtrack I've heard since Halo, the storyline was fanstastic and quenched the thirst of my inner sci-fi nerd (space Cthulhus!!), and I was unexpectedly moved by some parts of the game. Anyway, down to business.

The only reason I bought this game on Origin (I much prefer Steam) is because I got all three games and 55% of all released DLC for $30 via PC download. Not too shabby. Only downside is the remaining DLC would cost $85. So...

- Do BioWare points ever go on sale (or do the DLC)? Probably not, but there's no way I'm spending more than $20 on DLC. The gaming industry can suck it (which is why I never buy games new). Found this via a Google search, but that's the only one I found, sadly.

- ME3 registered without needing any codes or keys, but ME2 needs one. Only problem is Origin provides a "Product Code" while this website requires a "Registration Code." Entering the Product Code doesn't work. Is there any actual benefit to registering the games?

- What DLC are necessary to the story for all three games?

And finally, the biggest and most important of them all:

- I completed 1 (my first and only) playthrough of ME1 on Veteran. I reached the seemingly pointless level cap with Maroon, Virmire, and Ilos to complete. I would really like to transfer a level 60 character to ME2, but I'm not spending another 70 hours trying to do that. Can I simply start a new game, use the console codes to level up, and then transfer my character or would I have to complete the game again, first? I'm wondering whether or not I'd have to make every decision all over again or if those decisions will transfer from my first playthrough (i.e. Can you only transfer a character that's finished the game?).

Sorry for the long post and please excuse if a couple of these should have been posted in a more technical thread. Any help would be appreciated, though. Thanks, guys.

EDIT: Fixed the link, my bad -__-

No DLC is absolutely essential but most of the mission DLC can contribute positively to the outcome of the final game. Can't add more without spoilers. I'd get Bring Down the Sky for ME1 as it's free, all the free Cerberus Network stuff for ME2 including Zaeed, Kasumi ($), Overlord ($) and Lair of the Shadow Broker ($) all for ME2. Lots of people would say to buy Arrival as well because it links the ME2 and 3 stories, which is true but unfortunately it's got limited replay and a stupid stupid story. If you're on a budget that's the one I'd skip.

You can only transfer a completed game character from ME1as you've guessed, so even if you give yourself a billion xp via console you still need to play through it. If you're going to do that to replicate decisions, collect all artifacts etc then you may also want to speed things up by giving yourself the uber armour and instakill nearly eveything gun (can't remember the names).

Yes.

For ME3 DLC, From Ashes and the Extended Cut are pretty much must-haves.

Leviathan is fun and interesting, though I'm struggling to remember how much sense it'd make if you've not completed the game already.

Omega is probably the weakest, though I wouldn't call it bad. Just a bit repetitive, really.

Citadel, the final DLC, yet to be released.

In terms of the DLC, I was pretty much recommended everything -__- I have both ME1 DLC, the Cerberus Network for ME2, and the Extended Cut for ME3 (which was even given away for free, lol). The rest of the ME3 stuff looks like multiplayer add-ons, sadly (Retaliation, Resurgence, Rebellion, Reckoning, and Earth). Didn't buy this for the multiplayer, though, but I'll give it a go if people still play.

And a final DLC? Perhaps this is my chance to see BioWare points go on sale. Probably not, but I can hold out for a bit.

Also, can I play ME3's first ending and then go back and play the Extended Cut right away? I want to experience both.

EDIT: The "Citadel" DLC is supposed to come out tomorrow? It looks like my wait was shortened quite a bit, then.

Double post -__-

This forum has the oddest structure of any I've previously been on...

Oh, and thank you PsiFive for that info. I just transferred my Level 50 Shepard because it was much simpler than that whole "Save Editor" mess and going through the game again.

If only I could change my rank to "Lieutenent Colonel" John Shepard, though, so I could add some Stargate Atlantis up in dis guy (/extreme geek out)

Yup, think it's still pretty popular. I wasn't a multiplayer person at all, but it hooked me in for a good few months.

I don't think they ever do.

I don't see why not. Though as far as I can recall you have to do the WHOLE of the last level again. Could be wrong...

Yup. I'm sure you can see the whole forum quiver with excitement as we speak.

BioWare points were on sale at least once on Origin before (see the link I posted) so maybe there's a chance? How optimistic of me...

Well, thanks for all the help, guys. Most of my other questions (like how messed up ME2 is for the PC, thus far) have been taken care of.

My final question: Can I incorporate newly purchased DLC into a game I've been playing or would I need to start over? I'm only an hour into the game, but I'm not sure if DLC can work with a game in progress.

ME2 DLC - Lair of the Shadow Broker
my favorite in the whole series (cause it has a lot of Liara)

Um... Psi, you seemed to have copied and pasted your previous comment, lol. Thank you for your help, though. Highly appreciated :)

Like I said, the last thing I wanted to know was whether or not I can incorporate newly purchased DLC into a game I've been playing or would I need to start over? I'm not sure if DLC can work with a game in progress.

EDIT: But seriously, thanks for all the help, people. ME1 worked well right off the bat and ME2 needed a bit of tweaking, but I'm ecstatic about this franchise and perhaps some DLC :D

incorporate newly purchased DLC into a game I've been playing

Yes. I bought shadow broker halfway through ME2, and it installed and played just fine. (pc)

Great, thank you, Yestare. Maybe I'll contact BioWare and Origin and see if I can find anything regarding those points going on sale...
