You're forgetting the shot of whiskey in the cafe on the Citadel, and the many beers he drank at his parents' house.

This is one reason I love Kaidan.

Being drunk half the time he's with you?

I'd like to see the moments after that picture was taken...as Jack throws down a Shockwave to remove Liara & little miss "Shepard...don't forget about those unread messages...or I'll remind you...again & again..." Chick off the couch. Then elbows Tali & knees Miranda in her gut while vaulting over the back & into the seat next to HER man. And finally glances over at that robot-blow-up-doll and flips her off in case she started getting any ideas.

This was a nice idea but why does Shepard look so stiff?  It looks like someone just copy pasted figures from outside references onto a couch.  Everyone spaced 2' apart on the couch (even Joker + Edi).   Seriously.

I'd like to have seen it be more like an actual group shot... cheesy as it sounds.  That means people next to each other, maybe Shepard + his LI seated a little closer?  Grunt + Wrex doing some Krogan roar or fist-smacking thing, etc.

Shepard clearly DOESN'T deserve it before the actual war is over.
That's what most intelligent and logical fans would think.

You heard it here, folks. Soldiers don't deserve R&R until the war is over.

They're soldiers on a mission for a reason: to protect and to serve their countries, their worlds and their friends until the very last moment. R&R is just insulting while they know many other people are suffering and dying over the worlds. This party is a big joke and shouldn't even exist unless it happens after the endings, which won't happen.

Tell that to soldiers in Afeghanistan and see their reaction.

Are you kidding me? Soldiers do no need R&R right you sir a way to ignorant to even talk of Military men and women you sir can well... I cant really say what I want on here but I am sure you can use the little brain God gave you to think of what i wanted to say now do sit in a dark corner and think about what you said

Have to admit, I, like others, do have a nagging concern that this will be more about heartwarming moments and fond farewells than the actual plot. Whilst nice in it's own way, it might feel out of place, especially in the face of the grim, millions being butchered, civilisation collapsing theme of the game as a whole. So, whilst I'm certainly not against that content being there, I hope it's not the primary focus of the DLC.

Still, given the size of it, I'm inclined to think there's a lot more to it than the trailer showed, so still looking forward to it.

I'm with you. I also hope that they didn't show much of the plot just to avoid spoilers. Hopefully the bulk of the dlc will be the story conspirasy-story part and not the cheese.

Wow...so I guess the US military has Wehrmacht had it all wrong...

World War II...kind of a big deal.

Better example. The German regime was facing annihilation (and in the case of many of its top officers, personal annihilation too.) And yet they maintained leave policies for their soldiers that were a good deal better than the US did. It's generally believed that this helps to explain why the German soldiiers were, man-for-man, more effective than Western Allies soldiers until the very end of the war.

I'm also not convinced that raising the operational tempo is something the Citadel forces would want to do. The loss ratios seem to consistently favor the Reapers throughout the war. Hence the decision to launch the Earth attack immediately even without a very good plan to board the Citadel -- more fighting only weakens the Citadel fleets at that point.

Very cool trailer. The music works very well with the scenes shown. I'm definitely looking forward to the DLC. :-)

Haven't read all the posts in here so I might not be the first one to mention this, but Shepard had a tattoo in the scene with Jack - I wonder whose idea that was. :P

I agree. Super cheesy, group shot would have been nicer. Still, I don't think the picture is too bad. Also yes, Shepard is the odd one out in that photo. Why the hell is he putting his hands in his lap and crossing them? It looks so weird. My eyes were immediately drawn to shep after I first saw that.

Alot of armchair generals here saying that soldiers shouldn't get R&R during extended warfare LOL.

Get a little real life experience then come on back.

Also try to remember this is a game. That is all.

This is an excellent quote to describe this R&R argument.

Wow...so I guess the US military has it all wrong...

World War II...kind of a big deal.
Your response makes zero sense whatsoever.
Countries were being annihilated during WWII.  Millions of civilians dying...slaughtered.  THOUSANDS of soldiers, too (and that's just American GIs).    The US was in the midst of the Great Depression.  One of our Naval bases in one of our protectorates (Hawaii) was attacked by the Empire of Japan.  People feared invasion in the mainland.  London was decimated by GNATZEE bombs (hence the uncoinincidental setting of ME3's finale in London, I'd venture). The US dropped two atom bombs on Japan.

That sounds like a big deal, YET American GIs (at least) took R&R in the midst of all of this.

Get it?
Doesn't even compare. WWII, while a tremendous tragedy with millions upon millions of lives affected, does NOT compare to galaxy ending annihilation. Ever stop to think the enemy was human, and because they also would need a break, we might need one too?

I'm going to reference the movie Terminator since the enemies are similar. I didn't see a whole lot of relaxation and gambling going on in a fancy bar or apartment when they showed scenes of the war.

You couldn't be taking this more out of context.

Humans vs. humans, where you KNOW the enemy is going to be fatigued and need rest as much as you will, then R&R is certainly an option.

But when you're fighting a giant robotic army that's hellbent on wiping out everything that moves and does not rest, sleep, eat or stop, explain how you can?

It's completely in context, because while they may be robots, humans aren't. Soldiers in real life don't take R&R because of the nature of the enemy, they take R&R because otherwise their bodies or minds would break down. Last I checked, that still applies in Mass Effect.

Shepard needs to sleep, and she gets some sleep, enough sleep? enough to make her feel guilty for not killing the reapers fast enough. Remember the quote " Ill sleep when Im dead", this was after Garrus Vakarian convince Shepard to PLEASE get some sleep. Now, please tell me that this shepards is going to party and gamble.

Also consider, you can Apparently play this DLC after thessia, where the reapers killed all the asaris, the illusive man almost killed you and took the key to stop the war, and shepards mind is in " Im going to kill everybody" mode, and dont forget liara, she looks quite relaxed " having a nice day", compare it to the very well written romance scene where she is lovely but ansious and worried about not seeing another day and lost it all. This guys in the trailer, this "soldiers", they dont look worried to me, and that is not about real soldiers R&R in a real world, that is about the angle the writers and the producing team is giving to this. A pre-victory party when we know there is only the spacekid ahead.

This is a post-ending DLC, that they shoved up in the middle of the game just because they dont wat to touch their cliffhanger ending, because they want to be artsy like bladeruner acording to merizan.

Y'know, I can swear that all this military and R&R talk belongs somewhere else, let us enjoy a discussion regarding the DLC, as much as I appreciate what militaries do for their countries, I honestly dont care about the difference between RL and ingame, I just wanna kick back on the citadel and talk with some ol' squaddies

Maybe there's some sort of competition for least coherent post?

Or is it a parody? Sometimes satire on this board goes right past me because so many sincere posts are nuts.

People questioning the idea of R&R have never been in the military.

Anderson is in london, getting his people killed, facing reapers lasers and indoctrination, hiding in a dirty bunker, needing that shepard army ASAP, and he suddenly wants shepard to watch movies, play the piano, and party ?.

This is utterly inconsistent with ME3 story, where my shepard took a couple naps and felt guilty about it. This in ME2 would have been a wonderfull set piece, If this victory party would have been AFTER they get the victory I would be clapping and throwing money at them. Buy they took some fanservice, they got everybody out of charcater, they retconed the reapers apparently, and now we have to fight heath ledger's mistery boss, that probably will get slapped in the face by a shepard that will next proceed to party.

Conspiracy to kill shepard ?, well, I guess they failed, because my shepard is alive in some ruble in london, victim of Biowares inability to finish properly a story we loved for years, and now crumbles in cheesiness and nonsese in the name of fanservice aimed  for people that loved the ending.

The same Anderson that asked Joker to help Shepard to chill out because if he won't he will probably die of gastric ulcer before even killing his first reaper.

So yes it's pretty consistent to me.

i mean, don't get me wrong, i enjoy a fresh beer as much as the next person, but that's one of his main M.O.s in ME3 (the other one being whiney about Cerberus). there's more to kaidan than his drinking, i can assure you (i've seen it and saw it first hand in ME1, where we don't *ever* see him with alcohol), so cut the drinking crap and show me his other traits!
