Well, let's see. We can either make Seifer and his Liara-hating vocal minority happy by not including Liara in promotional material. Or we can make the ridiculously large number of players happy by including her. 40% of responders to the only ending survey supported by BioWare identified themselves as having romanced Liara (see pages 11-12).

I think the business case for using Liara as much as possible is quite clear.

Ok. Fair points. Certainly in the past Liara has played a large role (LotS for example), but for that reason she is featured a little more prominantly in this trailer. She has been used as a face for the game and is easily recognized by casual ME fans as a character in the series. I'm not dismissing your worry, I was genuinely curious about what you saw so we can do better for future trailers.

If I may please take this opportunity to make a suggestion, Mr. Priestly? I would like to humbly suggest that for your next game you either make an NPC a plot-required element of the game that is unkillable, or give multiple squadmates/companions the plot armor so that another situation like we've got with Liara doesn't develop. I didn't actually have a problem with Liara until she started getting shoved down my throat at every opportunity. Her own DLC, her own comics (twice), her unkillable plot armor, her continual forced presence on missions . . . it got to be too much after a while. Perhaps your company could try spreading out the 'face of the franchise' a bit more.

That being said, she was clearly given preference over the other squadmates in this trailer but you at least added a lot of other previously-unseen-in-promo-material squadmates into it so that negates Liara's prominent appearance early on in the trailer (in my opinion).

I don't think they are basing this off of the trailer Chris. They are basing this on pretty much how Liara had much more dialogue and cutscenes in the core game itself.

This. She had more forced-participation missions in ME3, more romance content, and, to date, two DLCs have heavily focused on her. Not seeing it in this trailer, though.

Um, what? She's only had one dlc focused on her.

I think this is in referance to from ashes the DLC was not Liara centric but she is a locked in squad mate.<3:D

so despite the fact that this thread was not a Liara hate thread and the op just wanted to ask a question it has become one anyway good going BSN. lets throw some fire and another squad mate for a change I know how about Tali or Miranda after all they are quit popular.

I don't mind Liara being used heavily in promotional material. As has been stated, she's incredibly recognizable. I also wouldn't care if she got the majority of content in this DLC, so long as it's good content. LotSB made me like Liara; if the content is good then I am satisfied.

There is no work of fiction where every character shares the same level of plot relevence. Why should games be different?

I'd rather Bioware concentrated on writing an interesting story and compelling characters in Mass Effect 4 than making sure every character gets an equal allotment of plot relevence or screen time. If the latter is the first priority, I think you are going to end up with a cast of characters who are all equally dull.

TS2Aggie unfortunately doesn't understand where a writer's priorities should lie.

therefore all you liara fans, I've ignored. Will continue to ignore because there's no point in even trying to have a intelligent convo with you fans.

All the other fanbases have shown to me their maturity: Miranda, Jack, Wrex, Zaeed, Thane, Samara and Harbinger. I don't even care about the LI.....or any romance rekindling fire scene.

I simply wanted more squad content from other characters. That's why I can talk to other fan bases but you liara fans aren't worth my time to even try to talk to...

I never saw this thread as a Liara hate thread and you stated in your post that it was not and you just wanted to ask a question it is just some of the others that have posted thing that have made a thread that was just asking a question into yet another liara hate thread.

I wouldn't go that far...

ME2 did a great job IMO on giving in-depth story content.

They were able to introduce new characters and still able to give great background content to them.

Example: Samara.
here's a brand new character we no nothing about. no nothing about her past or even an ardat-yakishi
yet, we know from the game and side quests: She's an Ardat-Yakshi. She has few daughters (and a rebellious one) and she told us about her 1000yrs of history of being a Justicar.

wow. I thought that was handled very well with what Bioware did
