Most likely.  Planned outages are announced and are usually on weekends.  If they have an outage like this...someone brought the network down logically or they had a physical issue in the data center.

I manage a large data center and unplanned outages like this can happen.  Our redundancy is high so it is rare.  But I bet EA doesn't have the same levels of redundancy we do (big bank).

Probably.

Worst case scenario considering ALL their servers are down would be the possibility that there's been some bother roadworks somewhere that's cut some important cables...


That happened at my old workplace once and the place had to shut down for three days while Cable and Wireless repaired the damage that caused thousands of companies to lose a crapload of revenue.


Stupid roadworkers.
