Some tips:
DW Warrior
Raise your Dexterity! Aim for a value of 60 or higher.
Use two daggers, that gives you the highest DPS.
Let one of your mages cast Flaming Weapons for more damage.
Wear Light Armor (Wade's Armor or Felon's Coat).
Rogue Archer
Get the Ranger specialization
Must-have talents: Arrow of Slaying, Scattershot, Critical Shot, Pinning Shot

In either case I reccomend getting enough strength to cover the equipment you need and then putting everything into dexterity to get a high defense.

2h warrior RAWR!
That was my last playthrough.
Im not much into having a mage as my main character. What's the differance between DW warrior and DW rogue?

DW Rogue: Backstabs, Stealth and an extra Stun (Dirty Fighting)
DW Warrior: Aggro Control (Taunt, Threaten and Disengage), Stamina Regen with Death Blow (Assassins have Feast of the Fallen), and a static damage bonus (with Berserker).
Generally Rogues have a higher DPS with backstabs, particularly if you pair them with mages who stun the enemy, but the Warrior has a higher face to face DPS. Warriors do have the Templar spec, so with the right equipment they can get 100% spell resist (though a Dwarf Rogue can manage the same or pretty close). If you played a warrior the first time, I suggest you try a rogue for a somewhat different experience.

Rogue is better single-target damage through auto-attack backstabbing. Positioning is important. Also is more versatile and can be the party scout, locksmith, trap-monkey, thief.
DW Warrior lends itself better to heavy usage of active skills, tends to do more aoe damage with fullsize weapon Dual Weapon Sweepa and Whirlwinds. Can also be left on auto-tactics mode.

Does heavier armor penalize dual wielding in any way?

No it doesn't penalize your stealth skills or anything else either. So it generally comes down to do you want another 20 points of armor from massive over light armor, or another 16 or so points of defense from a higher dex.
The way I see it, regardless of how high you get your defense you can still get hit by things like Overwhelm, and armor reduces that damage. It does take about 5 levels longer to get into that unhittable realm if you divert dex points to strength, but there is that range where both a pure dex and strength dex character are going to be hit and the strength-dex character has better armor. If you want to wear the Knight Commander's Plate you need to get your strength to 39 with items (probably 33 base+ Helm of Honnleath+ Andruil's Blessing+ Key to the City) too. I won't say which way is better than the other, and frankly I don't have the time to perform a detailed analysis to find out, but they are both valid options for a Warrior or Rogue.

Female PC Rogue - Dex/Cun dual wield with focus on stealth, utility and duelist
Leliana (replaced Dog ASAP) - focus on archery, then stealth for efficient sniping.
Zevran (replaced Sten who replaced Morrigan ASAP) - focus on Dex/Str dual wield, assassin, stealth
Alistair (every rogue needs a scapegoat, even more so a team.)
