With both Sony and Microsoft set to release their new consoles in the fall, it got me thinking which way I was going to go.  Then I realized it might be neither; my next gaming rig could be the one I'm using right now!

Until the Witcher, I'd never used my computer to play anything but an RTS game and Diablo 2.  I just didn't like using the keyboard/mouse combo on anything else.  Since the Witcher was only on PC, I was basically forced to do it anyway....  Hell, I didn't even know you could get actual game controllers for the PC until recently!

So, for all of you who have been using controllers to play your PC games, I had a couple questions:

1)  How many games actually support this type of hardware?
2)  What controller would you recommend?
3)  Is there anything else I should know about playing my PC games with a gamepad rather than the keyboard/mouse?

1) I can't give you a number but it's become alot more common.
2. Just a get a regular 360 controller. It's cheaper getting a wired one because a wireless controller also requires the wireless adapter.
3) Not really.

Thanks! I guess that's simple enough.

Although I wish BioWare would handle toggling the XBox 360 controller like how Fallout3/NV and Deus Ex HR does (or even making it a menu selection like what Alpha Protocol does.) Xpadder does a fine enough job. I've set up DA:O so that through the RT does a trigger that gives me the best of both worlds. When I hold the RT down, LB & RB acts as the mouse wheel changing me from tactical to visual mode while the Right Stick becomes the mouse.

It works for me, anyways. I should post it. Also, my 1-0 item slots are all filled without over-lapping. I have more options than on the 360.

If you don't have an actual 360 to use the 360 controller with you can just get any controller that is xinput-compatible and you should have full functionality. I got the logitech f310 for pretty cheap, works fine for everything I've tried. My old wireless rumblepad 2 needed a workaround for every game that needed xinput, which eventually started to become just every game, period.
