Why aren't all these distribution services building P2P-support into their systems? That could even ensure that everyone's game files stay the same, ergo helping to detect hacking.
Explain to us if you be so kind to what is involved in a bit more detail with hope bioware might take note and learn some pointer from you:O
Apparently, BitTorrent and other file sharing protocols scale very well with the number of downloaders. Steam, Origin & Co. utilise content delivery networks as far as I'm aware. Those must reach bottlenecks at some amount of downloaders. As we are seeing now (and with every big release day again). Sure, they can fire up more servers, in more locations, on faster connections to counter-balance, but such a system can not beat one where every downloader also uploads, therefore reducing the risk of the whole system getting overwhelmed. It might not get faster, but more reliable and more fair, since every downloader has the chance to download from other sources as the possibly over-whelmed primary servers.
Additionally, BitTorrent would for example can check file integrity, meaning that corrupted, out-dated or modified files could be found and replaced. If ME3 and origin would do that for the multiplayer files of the game, many cheating avenues would be prevented. Of course, a clear separation to moddable, SP-content needs to be done there. Not easy I guess, but worth the effort IMHO to satisfy user demands.

Bioware-Montreal is the developer. EA is the Publisher. Which do you believe is in charge of publishing to the public?
It should be a joint effort of course ;-) The devs building support for such update mechanisms into the game & the publisher offering that distribution mode.
EDIT: Inb4 "File sharing is evil!": It's successful tactic based on inherently neutral tech/protocols. Why should the legitimate businesses not emply such a tactic for legit purpose? See Spotify:
