I found the original thread to be kind of odd, with the Femmes telling about how their real bf's/whatever paled in comparison to a fictional character, and how they broke up with them for that reason.

very strange reading. I'll never click that thread again.

that thread gave me the creeps too. It kinda makes me want to start a Morrigan is the perfect woman thread so those girls can see how ridiculous it looks from the other side. If there were even a single guy who claimed to dump his girlfriend (or even be disappointed with her) because she didn't match up to a videogame character, he'd get laughed off the site. By other guys, too, mostly.

Come now. Don't tell me you didn't have just a chuckle right? I laughed for a good bit of time.

Oh, sure! I laughed. It's just that I was laughing AT them, not WITH them... Image IPB

That's exactly what's wrong with you.  You just make up, in your own head, what you think I'm saying.  You just don't get it.

A woman, who is in very late term pregnancy is in a VERY weakened state.  That does not mean that women are, by nature, weak.  A pregnant woman is not going to be able to fight off a pack of angry wolves, even though she might be able to under other circumstances.  That's the point of a man.  The woman carries the baby to term, provides nourishment for it until it can eat solid food, and provides for its other needs.  The man's job is to do whatever else is necessary to facilitate her ability to do these things.

I'm sorry you are so blinded by the nature of our luxurious society, but try being stranded on an undeveloped island, and see if your view of nature changes.

I'm arguing with your use of the words "biological" and "nature". It's not "nature" for a man to protect his wife...under ANY circumstance. Many men, when confronted by a pack of angry wolves, would, at best, try dragging their pregnant wife behind them while running away...they wouldn't stand and fight. The only thing "biological" about that is that we would instinctively go into "flight or fight" mode, and then our values, which are instilled in us by SOCIAL sources, would tell us which.

it's not "biological" for a woman to desire a man with the fight instinct...particularly not when it goes against common sense.

Women aren't expected to think logically.  The fact that many can (and do) just proves that they have overcome what a vast majority of the female posters in this thread have not.

Eeeeexactly!  Unfortunately, in some people's minds manners are permanently bound up in the ever-continuing (although personally non-existant) Battle Between the Sexes.  Ridiculous, but true.

Well, you could marry Morrigan or Alastair in Japan. God bless that nation *single tear of pride runs down cheek*

I take it that you're probably a teenage girl who hasn't really experienced the real world before.  In all of my visits to the UK, I've gotten along just fine with them. It's just that some of their opinions on things are so far off from the normal view of American society that it's not worth discussing certain topics with them.

It's saying things like this that make you look like an imbecile. Think before you write, and then maybe you would realise that assuming American values to be the NORMAL, while everyone else is basically just some freakish variation, is not too clever.

Edit: Oh never mind, I've just witnessed some of your later posts and realised you don't mind making a total arse of yourself ^_^

((edit)) dagnabbit, this thread is moving so fast that by the time I finished my post, the thread had moved several pages past the "door-holding" parts.  Oh well.  I'll still hold the door for ya.

Yet I know plenty of women who have refused to walk through the door until the man let go of it.  I usually just walk around them, and thank the guy for holding the door for us.

Alistair is ok.

Useful tank and as a character he's written and voice-acted well enough.

Compare to Morrigan who doesn't behave at all like her backstory suggests, has a worse fake accent and is annoying.

I think this weird mix of archaic words with some popular english (non-american) words and a fake accent may not have been the best idea. Worst of all is the swearing and insults, which do not sound right at all.

What I'm saying Alistair doesn't do so bad compared to most of the other characters.

It doesn't make them bad people.  It's the same with people who are rabid fans of different sports teams.  Just don't talk about each other's team, and you won't offend each other.

It's too bad that you cannot accept a logical explanation of why Alistair's attitude is unappealing to many men.  The fact that you think our opinion of him can even possibly be "wrong" shows a great failure in your thinking.

Oh yes...you know me all to well...again...for you

I think most feminists are aware it is nothing more than manners and civility... and I have never once come across a woman who got the 'ump when a man held a door open for her.

EJ42, are you going for some kind of record here? I think "agree to disagree" would fit well here. Obviously, people are wasting their time trying to convince you, and without jumping RIGHT into the middle of it... trust me man, you're not convincing anybody of anything. Just relax, take a deep breath, and remember it's just a thread about a fictional character who you think is a douchebag anyway.

I do appreciate the images.  They are much less annoying than having to read the thousand-word response you would have to come up with.  I congratulate you on being unable to express your arguments in a logical manner.  How about post some LOLcats too, though?  That would at least be mildly amusing.

I like him precisely because he's sensitive and has some flaws and weaknesses, along with the snarky humor (and he is brave). That's why I would pick someone like Alistair over someone with the kind of attitude you're displaying.

ok...here's where I'm going to have to come off as the misogynist...

What women have you met that think logically? Seriously...I haven't met any...otherwise I'd be dating them.

Back on topic...you are somewhat right. Regardless of the reasons, most women don't want a man they have to take care of. They don't necessarily want a guy that will take care of them...but seriously? Personally, I wouldn't respect a WOMAN that reacts that way, let alone a man. Either sex, I'd have the strong urge to smack them around.
