Is it me or Alistair is the most overrated guy?

you are correct, but in my experiance, chauvanistic, archaic bigots who think that a womans place is in the kitchen while the mans man goes out to hunt and then gets to 'look after her' do not end up having happy lives....
Especially since about ohhh......the 80's?

I have met a few, they date other people.

Heck...in the 80s both of my parents worked....they both provided, my mom didn't stop working till my brother was born. I was actually with my grandma most of the time.

EJ42, are you going for some kind of record here? I think "agree to disagree" would fit well here. Obviously, people are wasting their time trying to convince you, and without jumping RIGHT into the middle of it... trust me man, you're not convincing anybody of anything. Just relax, take a deep breath, and remember it's just a thread about a fictional character who you think is a douchebag anyway.
So many women are not content with being equal. They want to be more than equal, but this is not the proper forum to really continue this discussion. The girls who are posting in this thread, have not really even considered what the role of a man should be in the world. As a man, I'm perfectly fine with admitting that I cannot bear children. It doesn't make me feel like any sort of a failure. However, these girls aren't happy considering themselves as anything less than being able to pop out babies while harvesting crops and defending their land against the invading armies all at the same time.
The point is that Alistair lives in a world where we do not have our sissified society. Women and men have pretty clearly defined roles in the land of Ferelden. It's not about what they can do. It's about what is expected of them. Alistair does not live in England or the U.S.A. to begin with. He lives in Ferelden. He's expected to be a strong man, taking care of his family.
In truth, Alistair is expected to take care of his kingdom, being the heir to the throne. It's not a simple choice. There are things such as duty, which too many people in our real society seem to have lost the ability to comprehend.

Back on topic...you are somewhat right. Regardless of the reasons, most women don't want a man they have to take care of. They don't necessarily want a guy that will take care of them...but seriously? Personally, I wouldn't respect a WOMAN that reacts that way, let alone a man. Either sex, I'd have the strong urge to smack them around.
To the first part....look harder...>.>
I would agree but... women are quite insane. I've been one for 25 years. I have a hard ass time talking to them. Hands down.

A couple of things: Firstly, I do not wish to be more than equal at all. I am a feminist, thus I wish to be equal.
As a feminist, I do not think that every woman should go out to work and that if she does not then she is letting the team down.
As a feminist I do strongly believe that anyone, male or female, should be free to do whatever they choose with their lives, so long as they are not hurting anyone else.
You have made all sorts of assumptions that are just not true. To me, feminism is being able to do what you like, whether that is becoming a lawyer or a doctor, or staying at home to look after the kids.
Surely you cannot think that I am being unreasonable in my expectations of what a woman should or should not be able to do...?

Men and women have different roles. Neither is more or less important than the other. You just don't want to accept that.
Also, any honest woman will admit that women respond emotionally to a situation more strongly than they do logically. It is just how the typical woman's brain is wired.
Men are, typically, more analytical. That doesn't make us better. It just means that our views of Alistair are not likely to match. This is especially true when you consider that you're "supposed" to be attracted to him while I am not.

I'm seriously curious if we were playing the same game here??? Did you ever play through Orzammar??? Where did you see all the big manly men taking care of everything while their simpering little womenfolk cooked their dinners??
Or let's see... the fact that the person running the nation was, in fact, a woman, with a man who was merely a figurehead as the king. Hmm. And IF it was truly intended to be such a man's world in Ferelden, you'd think that there'd be no option to play a female pc at all. No romance options for said female pc. No women holding any sort of powerful positions because hey, let's not forget, women are weak and incapable without a man to stand in front of them.

A housewife is "equal" to a soldier, but it doesn't mean she is expected to be on the battlefield.
(Yes. There are female warriors, but they are not in the majority. Try talking to Leliana about Orlais...)
Most women are not expected to want to be soldiers.
It's the same reason that the "girls toy section" is filled with pink boxes of dolls while the "boys toy section" is filled with blue boxes of trucks and play swords. We're expected to like different things depending on our gender.

I know your purposfully ignoring me, but good to see your making good use of that spade I lent you
Some points here. There are more female members of Mensa than there are Male (per ratio divided)....so how does your superior analytical mind explain that?
And what roles do men and women have, who invented these roles, and what makes you think those roles are correct?
