@outlaworacle and SarEnyaDor - I posted the nicest thing possible then started handing the link out for laughs. Sorry girls. I'm not mean. Really.

lol You know, I did the same thing. But I did make a post or two in that thread, expressing my fear.

On a ramdom note, I think after the battle for gay marriage is over, we should start fighting for the right to be able to marry video game characters.

It's gotten all kinds of funny in that time. Sit down, take a martini. You're in for a long ride.

As a feminist, I do not think that every woman should go out to work and that if she does not then she is letting the team down.

As a feminist I do strongly believe that anyone, male or female, should be free to do whatever they choose with their lives, so long as they are not hurting anyone else.

I can understand and even respect that. However, we do not live in a society of equality. That path, if we even attempted it, would take generations to achieve. Women enjoy freedoms that they don't even consider, while men are still very much boxed in. For example...females are allowed to show emotion at will. I mean, you even have words for all kinds of emotions we've never even heard about. I mean...males basically have 4. Happy, sad, angry, tired. Women have crazy ones like "lethargic" and "depressed".

Personally...I couldn't respect a woman who would choose to NOT work. I mean, sure...maybe if she has kids, she can put it off for a while...but by the time those kids are in school, she should have some kind of job.

Except for the Transformers. I have a geonosian or two, however, and some snazzy little R2D2s :wizard:

And a puzz3D of the Milliennium Falcon :D

That's great for you.  Get your degree, and start a wonderful and fulfilling career.  Enjoy that all you can up to the point where you decide you want children, then ultimately decide you don't want to return to work after your maternity leave. (Yes, plenty of working moms fill our world, but that's not the point)

Men have had to fight, tooth and nail, for "paternity" leave.  Nobody expects a man to quit his job to take care of the children after his wife gives birth.  It's not unheard of, but it's simply not possible for him to provide the same things a mother can.

This discussion, however, has gone way off-topic beyond anything worth continuing.

The point is that men expect certain things of other men, and they expect certain things of women.  It's the same reason you (a woman) don't wear a suit and tie out to a club when looking for a guy.

Alistair can come across as a very emasculated character to male players.  I suppose that can be appealing to some women.  Well, I'm glad you enjoyed having him in your party.  I was perfectly happy to replace him with Morrigan, Leliana, and Wynne.

I think the most important thing is that the characters in the game, as they were written, appelaled to their target audiences effectively.

My father did pretty well for a few years....providing for us as a stay at home dad....also my degree will allow me to work from home as well. It is the new day and age, companies are allowing their employees to work from home.

I believe in men's rights too, of course... I am aware that there are double standards that work both ways, and I am also aware that it will take a long time to change this, just as it will take time to completely eradicate racism and homophobia...

But that doesn't mean we should not be working towards this change :)

God, I've gone back to self-help book mode <_<

Who said anything about dishes?

Women are simply not expected to go out hunting the food.  That says nothing about the preparation of it.  Women are supposed to protect the children while the men go out to bring back dinner.  This is in direct opposition to how things work in the world of lions and some other animals.

I think scientist/engineer women are sexy, but my ideal situation would be one where the children never had to be in daycare.  I think, ideally, I'd like to be able to have an environment where my wife could work at home (have her own art studio, lab, or whatever) while I do whatever it is I have to do to earn money.  If my wife happened to enjoy cooking, then I'd let her, but I think it would be more interesting to spend the time together in the kitchen, cooking as a team.  There's also a major appeal to doing the dishes together.  It's about being a team, and filling the void(s) in each other's lives.

Besides, we all know what marriage ultimately means.  It's finding a person you enjoy eating and watching TV with, who doesn't annoy you too much to drive you away the rest of the time.

I never claimed to be unreasonable.  I just have an opinion on the way things are "supposed" to be.

I realize that isn't the way things are in society today.  The fact that so many people are tainted by the way things are is why they can't comprehend why we have a problem with Alistair.

Watch the movie Castaway, with Tom Hanks.  When you get outside of our society, you can start to see what really matters in life.

Watch Lost even.  I didn't see too many complaints from the women letting the men be men.  Being a woman isn't about doing the dishes or the laundry.  It's about being provided an environment where they can feel safe enough to do whatever task they feel like doing.  It's a man's job to provide that safety and security.  It's never a woman's job to provide do that for a man.  That man would be a worthless drunk, sitting on the couch all day, wasting space.
