Our roles are not that different...except I have a period and I can carry children...and you can't...oh and I have boobs but if a man is fat enough he can have them too....we are emotional and think with our emotions sometimes, while men think with one head. As the saying goes "Men have two heads but only enough blood to run one at a time" (No offense to my guy friends). For you to actually think that our roles are so different....is stupid. I'm a woman, I'm in college. I am a minority but a greater minority because I am a hispanic female who is achieving a master degree...
That's great for you. Get your degree, and start a wonderful and fulfilling career. Enjoy that all you can up to the point where you decide you want children, then ultimately decide you don't want to return to work after your maternity leave. (Yes, plenty of working moms fill our world, but that's not the point)
Men have had to fight, tooth and nail, for "paternity" leave. Nobody expects a man to quit his job to take care of the children after his wife gives birth. It's not unheard of, but it's simply not possible for him to provide the same things a mother can.
This discussion, however, has gone
way off-topic beyond anything worth continuing.
The point is that men expect certain things of other men, and they expect certain things of women. It's the same reason you (a woman) don't wear a suit and tie out to a club when looking for a guy.
Alistair can come across as a very emasculated character to male players. I suppose that can be appealing to some women. Well, I'm glad you enjoyed having him in your party. I was perfectly happy to replace him with Morrigan, Leliana, and Wynne.
I think the most important thing is that the characters in the game, as they were written, appelaled to their target audiences effectively.
