Wait, we British are known for our culinary skills? News to me. Yes, marvel in the Scots' amazing skill of developing the deep-fried Mars Bar, and the glorious chip butty of the English! Grovel in amazement at the sheer audacity of our Spotted Dick and Scones!

I had a Scotch Egg once, and it was awesome. I can't help but wonder if the Scots batter and deep fry everything.

Where is the logic in an opinion or a view of the world?

That's what's wrong with you.  (Yes.  Wrong.)  You're approaching this conversation the wrong way.

The fact that you have a female opinion of things does not make you wrong.  It just explains why you are incapable of adequately accepting why many of us dislike Alistair as anything other than a failing on our part.

"You like shoes?  Well, of course you might.  You're a woman."

That's not an offensive comment, but you could probably take offense to it.  That's an emotional (completely illogical) response to the comment.  Me pointing out that you're a woman just serves to point out that your opinion of my view of things is not relevant.  You like Alistair, so you obviously aren't going to understand why I don't.

That's fine, that's reasonable. I like Alistair, you don't. Understood. You feel as though, since we are seeing things from different viewpoints we shall never understand eachother's point of view. Understood (although I disagree that females and males are so inherently different that it is impossible for them to understand each other's opinions, and further, I do not believe our beliefs about Alistair are solely based on our sexes).

But know that I do not love shoes.

Or bags.

Even having read most of this, that still doesn't make any sense.

My character loves shoes. But, only because he was trying to get into Leliana's pants.

To be happy with a man you must understand him a lot and love him a little. To be happy with a woman you must love her a lot and not try to understand her at all.

You obviously do not consider yourself a man (from my point of view)

And that sums it up nicely to end with. I am more of a 'man' than you could ever dream to be.

So because I am sensitive,

talk to my friends about problems,

can 'think' like a woman,

am proud enough of my nationality to defend it.

can relate to Alistairs character

has no issue with a woman being 'stronger' than him

Know when a woman wants equality and when she doesnt

You don't think of me as a 'man' because your view of men and women are so slanted by whatever childhood trauma you have suffered from your peers?

And if you live in 'America', you are American (unless America has some new sub countries I am not aware of), I was born in England, therefore i am not British (political view), nor will I ever be European, I am English.

Yes its a pet peeve of mine, and I'm unsure whether you are jealous, insecure (as really, America going down the pan faster than this country), purposfully trying to rile me (if so very immature) or just plain old delusional (worrying).

And quoting dictionary terms means nothing in the real world. As anyone fro Ireland or Scotland or even worse, Wales, if they are 'British' lmao, and tell me what kind of ugly response you get back.

the fact of the matter is, your a sexist male chauvanist pig who basically, time and time again, give 'men' like myself a bad name.

And with that, I really can't be bothered with this thread anymore, so night :)

So, just based on the logic that Alistair is not a man's man because he's not fulfilling his role in his society, doesn't that also presume that my female PC is not fulfilling her role in her society? Shouldn't she have left the Wardens to go raise someone else's children because Mom was killed by Darkspawn?

This whole "role fulfillment" is a bit ridiculous considering that the PC and gang are attempting to be part of the solution.

Y'know, I can't help but think that rather than telling women they're wrong to find Alistair appealing, it might be more productive for guys to figure out why they feel that way. This is information you can use to your advantage. Oh, and telling women their feelings are wrong? That always ends badly. Sometimes very badly. ;)

There are very few things a woman can do to make herself unattractive to a man.

Militant feminists wrote the handbook, though.

awww the heavy hitters of this thread left just as I finished reading... boo...

anywho, my input on Alistair (as a male myself) is that he is definitely whiny at times, but all the characters can be really... He is just funny to me so I like him :)

It may surprise you to hear this, but intelligent, strong women like us have no interest in attracting a man like you.

So everyone's happy :wizard:

Yet somehow, even without trying, you're managing to say everything that makes men unattractive to women. How'd you pull it off?

By the way, I get along just fine with women IRL.  I just don't feel the need to coddle anyone here on the forums or try to protect your feelings.  (Yes.  You do look fat in those jeans, but it's not the jeans.  Put down the donut.)

As for my responses in this thread, it doesn't bother me that women like Alistair.  I actually think it's kind of cute when they lash out in his defense.

When "men" try to defend him, it kind of creeps me out a bit.

I know you want a sensitive man who isn't afraid to express his feelings (to you), but would your first choice honestly be of a man who would jump up in a chair, and scream for you to save him from the little mouse?  Really?  That's the impression I get from Alistair.

In the car, you're supposed to be the one who constantly fiddles with the AC because you're too hot or too cold.  We're supposed to just suck it up, and let you be comfortable.  Alistair would just whine.

It's a talent I have.  I understand women all too well.  Trust me, I'm well aware that this is only an Internet forum.  ;)

I believe the role of females in Dragon Age is to whip my PC's Butt!! Ser Cauthrien hands it to me, Anora yells at me, Desire Demons trick me that burn my face.

So what? That happens when you disobey Yahve and tempt the man with the forbidden fruit. You deserve it (giving to birth pain).
