Second, looking over the wiki, he seems like a villain to me.

Look at the characters I listed.  Love Actually was, IMO, a good reference because all of the male characters were faced with a situation that I feel would have made Alistair crumble.

Liam Neeson's character handled his wife's death with dignity.
Hugh Grant's character responded quite well to the situation with his love interest.
Colin Firth's character could have flipped out at his brother.  He could have attacked his wife.  He could have sat down, and cried or drank himself into a stupor.  He didn't.  He moved on, and made his life better.
WhatsHisName with the cards got a pretty raw deal, but he was a good friend...well, I don't think he should've kissed her, but whatever.

To be fair, Alistair actually has been through quite a lot in his life and hasn't crumbled. He never knew his father and the man who raised him sent him off at a very young age because his wife didn't like him. He spends years in the Chantry, at some point meeting Duncan, who offers him an out by becoming a Grey Warden. Then everyone he'd learned to trust and bond with over the last six months he was a Warden dies in a battle that probably shouldn't have been lost. That's actually pretty crappy.

As for the characters, yes, I know you were referring to them and not the actors. I don't actually know the actors so I can't speak to how manly they are, but I feel I should point out that Colin Firth didn't move on until he met the housekeeper. He was living in a country house trying to write and had shut himself away from everyone. I can't remember the details with Hugh Grant's character too well, but from what I do remember he didn't pursue Natalie until he got the card from her. He didn't actually do anything before that, and let her leave or be fired or whatever it was that happened. As for WhatsHisName, he didn't kiss her, she kissed him. And if we're going simply by stereotypes and not for the "aww, that's so sweet" factor, Liam Neeson's son was the most awesome. He had no idea what to do and kept asking his dad, and finally chased the girl down in the airport. That's love. Well, so is learning Portuguese so you can declare your love, but still.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly IS your definition of a "manly man" in video games, mistah EJ42? Conan the Barbarian?

You must have missed the "acceptable" and "unacceptable" lines.  For example, and I'll try to use small words here, I could have said the following: *snip*

My feelings are sooo hurt that you snuck in that passive aggressive jab.  The mark of a true gentleman indeed.

I suppose I could have gotten more specific and much more wordy with my top heading, but I don't really care all that much about it.  Nitpick away.  It's all semantics, and you're not going to win.

With your great expertise on what defines a true man, I'm surprised no one ever taught you to say what you mean and mean what you say.  I'm really not looking to win anything, just pointing out the fact that you use words you don't understand.  A far better choice would have been archetype.

I understand what the word means.  I just don't care that it bothers you that I used it in a way you disagree with.

Also, there are no gentlemen on the Internet.  If your feelings are hurt, then that's your problem.

You lost any credibility when your best argument was to attack a largely irrelevant word in the post.

Link to the post where I said "manly."  I'll just go ahead on to bed while you look for it.

At most, I said "man's man," meaning a man that other men respect and look up to.

I wouldn't want to get into an argument about the definition of "manly" after the craziness of the role definitions discussion.

This just goes again to prove that very few people in this thread even know what they're responding to.

You're not overly bright.

I guess DA is for children to because after all it is on consoles. Or did you forget that. :wizard:

So all your whining boils down to the fact that you dislike something that...is what you call "a children's game."

Maybe you should grow up a little no?

Your definition of villian is also screwed. Big Boss was at the very end a anti - hero figure more than a villian. Here's an actual wiki: http://metalgear.wik...m/wiki/Big_Boss

Overrated?  I wouldn't say she's the most overrated.  More likely the most misunderstood.

I've seen more people posting that they hate her for how "evil" she is than posting about how awesome she is.  To me, she's just the most interesting one because she's damaged, and I feel like my character is somewhat similar.  Leliana is just like a silly puppy that follows you around, but doesn't really know why she loves you.  For Morrigan to respond favorably seems to mean more.

I'm actually not going to argue with you here, I did in fact use the wrong term.  I meant "man's man" and my brain and my fingers had a rather large disconnect.

So, allow me to rephrase:  What, exactly, is your definition of a "man's man" in gaming, barring all of that jazz about men's roles in society and how Alistair doesn't fit any of them from earlier?

Not really trolling.  I just don't play console games, so I can't really comment on their characters that well.  (Well, I did play Chrono Trigger and the Zelda series when I was younger)

Still, I don't really care for how his character was portrayed in the wiki.  I have a hard time forgiving betrayal of any sort.  Even Jack Bauer is starting to push the limits...
