Ok so has anyone else had this problem on Nightmare?

I get into a battle, and unless I keep telling Allister to attack something new he just sits there.  This didn't happen so badly in the lower difficulties although it did happen once in a while.  I have quick set his default tactics options to "Defender" and even tried setting him to Aggressive with no change.

Anyone  know what I'm doing wrong?  These are the exact same settings I used in my previous three playthroughs with no real issues about needing to babysit Whiney Boy Allistair.  I would normally just boot him and take someone else but seeing as I'm still in the second half of Ostagar I can't...

Do you have simple "attack" set anywhere in tactics?

While I do get some of my companions act like they got stuck now and then, it is not something permanent. I can only guess it must be something with tactics.

Yeah, just make sure that your last tactic option is something along the way of "enemy-any: attack". Also make sure you don't use the "passive" behaviour, no use for it unless you solo.

Apart from that if you set allister as a "ranged" behaviour without equipping him with a bow/crossbow he won't do much either.

Do you use a tactic to enable him to use health poultices? I have had similar issues with Allistair in particular and have seen threads where people are speculating that he get's "stuck" waiting for the cooldown on health poultices. The play through I am working on now I do not have him using poultices as a tactic and have not seen him standing around, so I am starting to believe that may be the issue.

My bottom tactic on all characters is always Enemy: Lowest Health: Attack.

Yea I've been ignoring adding an Enemy:Any - Attack Tactic. I'm guessing I didn't notice the thumbupthebuttness of the NPC's until Nightmare level since it seems to matter more that whole group is actually doing something.

I guess I'll have to start adding that. It's just a shame I'll have to waste a tactic slot on it. So far in most fights for all my characters I have mainly just controlled Me and let the tactics controll the rest of the party unless the fight was hard enough to warrant my attention...

As for Allister getting stuck - I've seen him get stuck on Taunt before using the default Defender tactics. Then I changed his tactic to Enemy:Short Range - Taunt and he stopped getting stuck on it.
