I think a clone being the badguy is extremely more predictable...you know...since so many people were so quick to predict it.

I agree, although it'd be really easy for Bioware to come up with some random human that we've never met before who has a grudge with Shepard that we've never heard about before, then have Anderson or someone say "oh, this guy's pissed because X event happened offscreen, and he blames you for it and is out to get you"...and then presto: you've made a brand-new quasi-decent villain without resorting to something as implausible and silly as a Shepard clone.

So unless the clone story gets confirmation, I'm just going to presume that Bioware just made up a new villain from scratch.

I'm pretty OK with it considering the franchise hasn't dealt with this aspect much to-date. Still, it's not one of my favorite tropes, exempting semi-serious comedic effect treatments like Stargate SG-1 and Farscape.

This has not been confirmed. Initial report was Brooks was the villain. A clone has been raised as the alternative ppl don't want to believe.
