Consoles are good for games developed primarily for them: DA:O isn't one of those.

It's pretty cool. He regrets buying it on the 360 finally. He's going to get the PC version when his wife isn't looking.

I was just wondering if any of you have tackled both versions of the game and how you felt about both versions. I currently am playing the PC version, but since I am a total nerd I have been thinking about trying it out for my 360 or PS3 for a different experience.
I really love the game on Xbox 360 dispite it flaws (my PC is from 2005 and was pretty sub par even then), but I have to admit that PC is the better choice.
If you have a good enough PC, you'll have better party control, better interface, better graphics, toolset etc.
However, I think the biggest draw backs of the consoles could be redeemed with improving the radial menu (like a move-command) and adding more quick slots (for instance the game could use a,b,x,y + RB+LB when holding the right trigger)

My buddy has the 360 version and I have the PC. We talk all the time about it. Except when I start talking about the awesome mods. He gets pouty-face and I keep going on and on, because I'm the kind of friend that is also a jackass.

LOL, I have a guy at work who does it to me every time we talk about the game. I play on Xbox and he on his PC. I'm sure the PC version is much better. The mods alone make it worth it. But alas, I game on consoles and am to stubborn to change for now.

Xbox has clunky controls, limited quickbars, cruddier graphics, less intense fights with less mobs on the screen, is much easier (IMHO), and is not very precise. Other downsides include the lack of mods and toolset, but that doesn't really apply if you own both.

I'll refrain from bashing consoles and just say that if your PC is quality enough to run Dragon Age, there is not a single reason to play on a console. The PC version offers everything from better graphics, better controls, and faster loading to modability and more difficulty.
Basically if a game isn't multiplayer with friends, I don't see why one would ever want it on console instead of PC, consoles are really just ideal for entertaining guests/drinking games/something which isn't available on PC.

If you absolutely must have the most casual experience possible, in terms of easy fights - or if your PC is near minimum spec - the console version is for you. If not, not.
In some way, the fights might be as hard on console (despite the diff. being a little scaled down) as on the PC, on the harder difficulties (hard & nightmare), since micromanaging is more taxing on console.
I have to do a lot to avoid my party to fall victim of AoE's for instance and tactical retreats with the whole party (for example to get them to retreat to a bottle neck in order to make it easier to face opponents that far outnumber you) can be a real pain, sometimes downright impossible in some scripted fights.

I used to be a hardcore pcgamer, keep in mind they have a different mentality, which is totally fine but can lead them to miss some of things that console gamers generally value. I've played through this on my xbox and enjoyed it a great deal. The draw for me was using the controller, on my couch, on a huge HD tv. Yes, I could hook up my PC to the tv, and then deal with tiny text etc, all the issues that making pc gaming a pain when you're 10 feet away.
I'm with you on this one. I also used to be a pc gamer, but age and responsibilities turned the pc at home to being nothing more than an extension of work, so I stopped upgrading eventually and switched my gaming life to consoles... Am I a happy man? In many ways no. DA:O is from what I have seen definately better on pc than on consoles.
On the other hand it's just wonderful to sit back in my couch/bed/whatever and play on my large HD tv. Though it's better with with other Bioware titles than DA:O (yes, ME) that are easier to handle on the 360. Now, if only I just hadn't experienced the RROD, I wouldn't be posting but playing!

I could understand if DAO was a hard game to run but my brother is playing it on a crappy MAC right now and having the time of his life. The best argument I have heard for playing the console version "if you have never played the PC version you won't know what you are missing". What a cop out! That's like saying doom three is the best shooter ever because you didn't have time to play any others.
I would recommend the console version of DAO if it is TRULY your only option, but otherwise, grab it on PC.

the "lying on the bed and sitting on a couch" thing is getting old.
No kidding, I could easily play DA:O on my laptop on the couch, in bed, or even hook it up to bedroom tv and play from a wireless mouse/keyboard as easily as I could on my 360.
PC version of DA:O is better in every sense than its console counterparts. Leave the generic PC vs console debate outside of this thread.

Everyone who claims their couch is the place to play needs to drop 200 bucks on an office chair you will melt into, true comfort.

I've adapted my computer so I can use it exclusively from my couch.
I have a 22" monitor that sits a couple of feet away, and the 42" TV that sits 6 feet away.
By adjusting resolutions and font sizes, I can see everything just fine.
Wireless keyboards and mice now have ranges from 50-100 feet,
I even have a game pad for my SNES emulator.

And then ponder why people even bother with PC's.

You make a good point, a good chair is not the best for everyone.
