Citadel brought me back.

I don't just mean nostalgia, but gods, I got a ton of that too (edit: M-7 FTW!!!). No, I mean that the ending broke the series for me (and I still hate it, though only with the fury of a dozen suns instead of a thousand), and Citadel brought me back to Mass Effect.

I'm going to write a whole thread-starting post about why Citadel is good enough to heal that wound, but here's the short, short version:

1) It's functionally post-game content. Yes yes, canonically it's between the Citadel attack and the assault on Cronos Station. But it's best played when you have the maximum number of people you've reunited with, and the end drops you back...to just before Cronos. It's so insanely easy to headcanon as post-game, that can't be an accident. Plus, what could possibly challenge Shepard after he defeated a race of machine-gods that's ruled for a billion years? Yeah, that final boss. Image IPB

2) It remembered that Mass Effect is a video game. Proper final boss. Great action. Mini-games. Armax Arsenal Arena with almost all your old friends. That last one alone extends play value almost indefinitely, and makes up for all the development time lost to multiplayer. "AAA experience" indeed. Image IPB

3) It remembers the ultimate draws of the ME universe - the world and the characters. The return of Wrex, the Citadel Archives, the party, remembrances for the lost (okay, except Legion...you did drop that one, guys), finally getting back together with ME2 friends and LIs...this may not fix the ending, but it does fix pretty much every other issue I had with ME3. Plus, Mordin sings Amazing Grace. Image IPB

In short, kudos, Bioware. You've restored my faith in you, and in the Mass Effect universe. Bring on ME4. I may not pre-order it, but there's an excellent chance I'll buy it, which is way up from the 0% chance that existed on March 4th. Thank you for a great series and a proper goodbye.

Things that I liked:

1. I love the humor on this DLC. The banter between squad members is absolutely fantastic; my only complaint is that the sounds of the battles got in the way and made it hard to hear. Also, whoever wrote for Grunt in this DLC deserves a medal.

2. The levels are great! It was quite refreshing to see new levels that weren't the same chrome hallways like in the main game. The more dynamic levels are in video games the better the experience for me.

3. Hearing people chatting about battles that happened in multiplayer was a huge surprise for me. I could literally stand for hours next to that human and vorcha chatting about an Ex-Cerberus vanguard. The whole time I would think to myself, "Why do I get the feeling I know that vanguard?"

This settles the old debate about multiplayer being canon or non-canon and I'm glad to hear I was on the correct side. Image IPB

4. I'm so happy to see minigames make it into ME3!! I was so disappointed to see these weren't in the main game, as I wanted to play on that poker table on the Normandy with my squadmates. For the next Mass Effect game I hope to see minigames make a reappearance in the actual game; not in DLC.

5. Wrex as a party member, 'nough said.

EDIT: I almost forgot: please include an apartment in the next Mass Effect game!! And add more customization options and decorations that match my paragon or renegade alignments!

Things I didn't like:

1. It's great that I got the Lancer (love it by the way) and the Supressor, but why didn't we get the Collector weapons or the Spitfire assault rifle? It's extremely disappointing to not have every single weapon in the game, but I'm hoping you will fix this soon.

2. A Shepard clone? That was the huge twist? I'm sorry but this was just underwhelming and didn't leave a huge impact on the DLC for me. I hope the clone survived and will be used again in future Mass Effect stories, since that would be interesting to see, but overall I wasn't impressed.

3. The Citadel Archives were not what I was expecting. I was hoping to see something would hint towards the Catalyst, like an ancient computer that was billions of years old and would only respond to the Keepers. To not see Bioware even attempt to explain how the Catalyst could be on the Citadel and even need Sovereign to start the invasion in the first place just makes me angry.

4. Maya Brookes is such a weak character. She has little to no personality and her motives are just dull and forgetful. She's also the ugliest character I've ever seen (yes, even uglier then the vorcha). I mean, the eyes; what's up with the eyes!?

----------------
Did I like this DLC? Yes, absolutely.

It has its problems, and I wish I could get those weapons or answers, but I do believe this is a great goodbye to the series. I look forward to seeing what else is in store for Mass Effect. ^^;

It was everything I expected it to be. The main storyline plays out like a crummy fanfic. It is basically a parodic and self-ironic action-comedy. Just think of this DLC as a disconnected adventure not really tied into the main game, where you get a chance to chat and interact with your squad.

Some of the dialogue and banter filled with nostalgia and references was absolutely fantastic and Garrus romance scenes were really good. Javik was funnier than ever. Citadel archives were interesting and there were a lot of moments that reminded me why I got into Mass Effect in the first place.
But yeah... this was nothing more than a fanservice so I don't really want to compare it to other DLC's.

As for being a 'goodbye' for the series... well.. whenever I am going to replay the series, there is still the ending to come, and that is when I say goodbye to my squad and the universe. Let's just say that I am still not very fond of the endings.

Anyways, I turned my brain off, enjoyed it for what it was and saw Zaeed and Garrus plan defenses for Shepard's apartment. 15 dollars well spent.

I agree with close to all of what you have said. In my world the positives outweight the negative by a factor 100 or more. This DLC is a GREAT way to say goodbye to the characters that have given me the best gaming experince I have had so far. Absolutely amazing.

Thank you Bioware!

Agreed. I may not like the original ending, but this DLC was a great way to end the trilogy itself.

Editor's Note: Wanted to keep this simple. I had a wall of text planned in my head. But looking back at my journey with Mass Effect and the last 6 hours I spent with this DLC in just pure enjoyment and bliss, I just decided to emulate one of the many things that brought me delight during that time.

Secondary Note: Guess that counts as not keeping it simple... I should go

I enjoyed the DLC for what it was, a fond farewell. Sure clone-boy isnt too taxing s story or enemy, and was predicted by quite a few people but thats not what I came to the DLC for.

When I first finished, and chose destroy, I was distraught. I wanted the triumphant ending of the first two MEs, but also distraught that the series and characters had ended. The one thing I wanted most was more time with the characters (which as I think about it now was a kind of typical reaction to bereavement). This DLC gave me this.

Some of the scripting was brilliant. Grunt's scenes, Rex's entrance, the James Bond chess battle, on and on. Most were great, some were genius.

The party was great, brilliantly scripted in parts again. Though it did sort the strong characters from the weak. I mostly loved it though.

As I walked out of the apartment after the party I dreaded the save screen and being back in front of the galaxy map. And then you dropped that balcony scene on me, Ash's head on my shoulder, saying it would all be ok. That killed me, and for an instant I was distraught again.

But as they all got back onto the Normandy I felt as though I'd said goodbye, and for that alone this DLC was worth it.

More competent and lengthy response later, but I loved it. It exceeded my expectations entirely. Favorite crew moments are everything to do with Traynor and Grunt. Wonderful writing, pacing and plotting. Makes me feel as if it was written by Jane Espenson.

I really liked this DLC!!! I actually didn't even return to the Normandy after it "ended" so everyone's sort of just chilling in the apartment for breakfast. I think the part that got me to laugh the most was Joker laughing for a good 2 minutes at Shepard's dancing ability. It was really infectious n _ n

Also, the Garrus romance dialogue was really good. Although, I thought it was a bit awkward in the beginning for him to mention "nice outfit" when they were in the car dealership since, well, Shepard was wearing the same clothes since the beginning of the game. Definitely will be reloading and playing this DLC more than once since I had such a good time with it. Also, great job on the environments! I can't wait until the future of Mass Effect on next gen consoles with better NPCs and AI.

This is how I like to finish the game, on a positive note with the whole squad!

I enjoyed this DLC very much. I treat it as entertainment value, as closure, and as such, would give it a 10/10.

I loved the squad banter. I was laughing throughout the entire thing. Fighting the clone, as an Infiltrator on Insanity, was crazy difficult! It was the final boss fight that I was hoping for actually. (Marauder Shields video hilarious though)

After having played ME1 when it first came out, I didn't play ME2 and ME3 until last month, where I played through both of them back to back. (~40 hours each, all DLC). I finished ME3 on the 4th, just before Citadel DLC release. With this, I haven't experienced the year long outrage against the game's ending nor the demands for what would be in this DLC.

Along with what many people have said here, I agree this would have made great post-ending content. I view it as that anyways. I was able to enjoy this content having saved all squadmates possible.

I have a thing for seeing extraordinary people doing ordinary things, like hanging out, eating, etc.  Being able to experience this in ME with all of the squadmates and love interests was fantastic. The emotional value that comes out of this DLC is something that will be remembered. I'm 100% Talimancer. Wished her scenes were as elaborate as Liara's. Different topic though.

Mass Effect remains one of my favorite series of all time and I'd be happy to support Bioware in a future venture.

In the end, Citadel DLC left me with a good feeling inside, pretty much like a happy ending, and that is more than enough for me.

Awesome. Thanks.

PS. "Someone else might have gotten it wrong". Best scene ever. Drew tears. Mordin Solus. One of the best characters. Please have more of this genius in the next ME.

Pros:
1. OMG! The humor had me laughing to the point that I got the hiccups.
2. Squad banter was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
3. Mini games! Yes!
4. The varieties of playing through the game was really fun; the distractions, soloing, and the casino infiltration were all great. It kept things fresh!
5. The enemies, while like Cerebus except being a lot smarter, and I mean A LOT (I lost count how many times I died), were interesting.
6. The soundtrack. 'nuff said.
7. I LOVE Brooks! I was disappointed that she turned on them though (I was kinda suspecting she would).
8. BLASTO!!!!!!
9. The environments. Great job to whoever designed them!
10. Glyph with a BOW TIE! That was ADORABLE!

Cons:

1. While the dlc on its own is great, in context within ME3 it's strange. It's too lighthearted even though I enjoy it immensley.
2. It was too short.
3. Tali's face was not revealed (WTF!?) and the scene with her was soooo damn short!
4. The clone, while I can accept its existence, he/she was too "evil". I was hoping for the clone to be more complicated instead of "ARG! I HATE YOU AND NOW I WILL BE YOU!". I wanted his/her personality to have depth and complexity. Also, why the hell did he/she have to die? His/her death was so stupid and predictable. Such a waste.
5. Brooks. I love her but her betraying the crew was predictable (somewhat). It wasn't THAT bad and she was interesting but her "mean-streak" so to speak was very short. So she's pro-human. And?
6. The party. I love it but I was hoping to have a more dynamic conversation (cinematics) with my team instead of auto-dialogue. The only time I was able to participate is when I had to choose a side with a squadmate during a disagreement.

Final Verdict:

On its own: 9/10

Within ME3: 7/10

It was fun, addictive, and amazing. However, because of its weird placement within the game, the cons I listed, and how Shepard's story ends, it's bittersweet.

And now, good-bye Shepard.

This DLC felt like a spoof version of Mass Effect or something, there was way too much humor. Don't get me wrong, I do like having some humor in my Mass Effect, but this was pretty much just a non stop barrage of jokes. I did enjoy Thanes funeral tho, and the armax arena is pretty fun.

Dear Bioware,
I simply loved it!!! I dare say it's the best DLC ever. I laughed my ass off for the most part, and got teary by the end.
All the inside jokes, all the comments even in battle - I was a paragon, everyone survived - and that party in the end!
Whish I could've been there... Funny and interesting, I never expected that turn! The Casino heist part was a lot like Kasumi's loyalty mission, but i've enjoyed it, the mingling, the new environment, the interesting characters you could find in the crowd.
I admit all the personal time with the characters was a really long errand, but I enjoyed every second of it.
People always need more, so if I can, I'd like to point out that personally, I would've liked more secret ancient history stuff in the archives, at least instead of the damaged or offline holo chambers, and it was strange that my crewmates didn't comment on each piece. And as a Tali lover I was kinda hoping to see her face finally, since it's the end of Shepard's story and you've already provided us with a picture, but it's allright I guess,
Even if I don't laugh loudly for minutes when I replay this DLC for the 4th time, I still love it, and I still get emotional by the end, when male Shepard says 'The best.' [about the Normandy's journy].
Others have said it better above, but really, all the small, inside things like ... BLASTO!!! or Francis Kitt, or the Ashlands... music was great too, loved butler Glyph (he was so cute with that little tie  :D), pizza delivery volus, Polgara T'Suza [thanks Bioware!] didn't trust Brooks though, I somehow knew she would betray me, or at least I wasn't surprised about that, but still, great characters!
Loved it, thank you for giving me these great and hilarious memories!

Despite existing in the middle of the ME3 timeline, tone wise this is clearly intended as a post-ending send-off. I thought it worked brilliantly, had it faded to black and the credits rolled just after the final dialogue before boarding the Normandy I would not have been surprised. I think some people were looking for this DLC to be something it's not, it's a character send-off, a final goodbye to Shepard and crew. As the last piece of content for this trilogy I thought it was pitch-perfect. Well, apart from the overly heavy-handed drumming home of the "power of friendship" message with Shepard's "What makes you different from me?" followed by your squad rescuing you.

Few bugs:

1. Wrex disappeared at one point during the archives mission and was no longer responding to squad commands. I had to reload.

2. The "Talk to your squad" text on the screen during the party never faded. Reloading fixed this.

3. Kasumi has been incorrectly placed during the morning-after scene at your apartment, her feet are in the floor which means her arms are not resting on the railing.

4. Is Liara only supposed to have one line in the morning-after scene (non-LI)? Everyone has has at least two and their final line is always curt so as to bear repetition. Liara doesn't fit this model which makes me wonder if it's not correctly rolling over to her other dialogue.

I would have liked to see the squad comment on the things you see in the archive, it's odd that Wrex has nothing to say about the genophage memory, or Tali about the AI stuff, etc. But all-in-all this is minor stuff. I personally thought it was the best DLC you've done, though obviously you couldn't make all DLC like this because that would be too much. It was the perfect DLC to end the series with though.

One thing though, why isn't there an option to view the squad photo in fullscreen? I want a screenshot of it for my wallpaper!

So far, based on what I've seen on posted playthroughs/videos, I've enjoyed the DLC and have no regrets over buying it.

The largest outstanding problem I see is that a lot of fans of the DLC are going to go from the "highs" of this DLC to what's going to seem like an even lower "low" after Priority:Earth. Not that this is an ending-bashing post, but it really is going to be an emotional slingshot for a lot of players.

I foresee a lot of players who would choose the Destroy or Refuse endings head-canoning this as a post-ending/epilogue DLC and playing it chronologically after the endings.

I seriously don't understand the hate. It all about character relationships and they can't fight constantly they need breather occasionally. It's fun, entertaining and the dialogue is the best in the trilogy. Have finished mission and wandering around finding all the Easter eggs now, greatly enjoyable.

THIS!!! I'm pretty sure the majority of the hate is coming from people still upset about the ending. I personally don't understand it either. They hate everything simply because they didn't like the ending. Their hate is unfounded and they can come up with no good reason to dislike something other than "it wasn't what they wanted".

This was easily one of the best pieces of DLC for Mass Effect series. The interesting story and the thorough fan service was greatly appreciated Bioware. Almost makes me sad Shepard's story has to end, but this was a great way to end it. Looking forward to the next Mass Effect game in the franchise.

Evidently, neither of you appreciate nor understand what war is. There are no "breaks." You are constantly fighting. It is a brutal and exhausting hardship, but the alternatives are often far less appealing. Either you persevere or you die. To say Shepard "needs a breather occasionally" completely belies the themes ME3 attempted to demonstrate. She is tasks with finding a means to prevent galactic-wide genocide. People are dying by the millions - whole planets have become smoldering ruins. And Shepard needs a break? Suck it up, princess.

That said, the DLC is fine when viewed in a vacuum. It has a lighthearted and character drive narrative that was once a stable of the series. Unfortunately, it functions more like an epilogue - we won, now party! Put into the midst of the story, it feels disjointed and out of place. Even had this preceded the Reaper invasion, it might work. Instead, Shepard is essentially taking five while people are murdered by the thousands.

Is the DLC good? Yes. But as an epilogue.
